One Thousand Club
We used to do these all the time on my old site, and I'd thought I'd do one here, just to get a sample of what this community is really like. So, here we go.
This will be an elimination writing competition, where I will eliminate either one of the applicants (if numbers are low) or half of the applicants (if numbers are high) every round until one remains. The prize is winning! If you have an idea for a more fitting reward, go ahead and drop it here.
In order to make this easy to do, every entry will be rated on a numerical scale in the following categories:
Creativity: 0-10 points (How unique a take on the prompt the writing is)
Intrigue: 0-10 points (How interesting the work is, how much it catches attention)
Word use: 0-10 points (How your use of words benefits the theme and quality of the work)
Accuracy: 0-5 points (How well it fulfills the prompt.)
Bonus: (This is for my opinions. For if you went above and beyond with one of the above categories or something that had not previously been considered. This will never be negative, and it will probably never be more than +5.)
Therefore, a "perfect score" would be a 35.
This will, as mentioned, be split into rounds. Anyone can join at any point in the first, second, or third rounds if their work is within the top 50% of scores. This also applies to people who had been knocked out in previous rounds. However, only people who went past the third round will be eligible for later rounds. Anyone may write however for an unofficial rating just to see how they would have done. These rules are subject to change based on the number of competitors.
Things you will NOT be judged on include the length of your work, typos made, political leanings, or opinions.
So, if we're ready to begin, your first prompt that your work will be based around is the sun. You can take this literally, metaphorically, spiritually, or however you want. May the best author win.
