Futuristic Unknown Crisis IC (full)

Aleksi Donovan

Donny walked by with a hallo screen up with what looked like very important NASA paper work hovering in front of him and drinking a big cup of tea with a parakeet in a mech on it.

"I have no idea whats going to happen after those words Eppie- but I never want to hear about it."

He didn't stop.He didn't really look over. He just kept going, heading towards his own room.

Cathal McKay

"Bye Donny!" Cathal called after him. "What a lad," he added. "Don't even worry about it, Kevkev. We're being very good," he said, which here is a phrase that means "doing something naughty that probably won't kill anyone." Cathal opened his door and scooted inside, shoving some of the clutter under his bed to give Kevin a chance to talk to Eppie in something like privacy.

Kevin Starr

Kevin was definitely suspicious. He was also certain he didn't want to dig deeper, for fear of the two dragging him into it. He was sure they wouldn't get anyone killed... Hurt, on the other hand... Kevin wasn't going to dilly-dally here.
"Eppie, I... I said some things I really shouldn't have. During the mission with the bees. I was just... Mad because you were taking so many stupid risks, you know? I thought I had it covered, and I wasn't going to get myself hurt, even. But you... Just walked in anyway, and I lost my temper. And I'm sorry for what I said. And for how I acted. And... You were right, I guess. You're brave. Braver than me... I... Uh... Better go. Leave you to... Trouble. Okbyeseeyoulater"
was all Kevin said before he tried to NYOOM off. He was not ready to accept the consequences of whatever trouble these two could get up to together.

Eppie Cross
She's interacted with Kevin and seen interact with others enough time to know he plans his retreat before the conversation even starts. He's ready to turn on his heel and book it in the opposite direction when they make eye contact, because when Eppie and Cathal get into a room together and do anything besides trade pleasantries, trouble tends to follow. Kevin isn't about trouble. He isn't about anything that could get him killed. But he is about protecting people. He sprinted out of the secured airlock back into bee hell because someone had been left behind. He reprimanded her because he had been using a expendable drone and Eppie was a fleshy and very-susceptible-to-harm human being.

Which is why she finds herself utterly baffled that Kevin is really apologizing to her.

She hasn't even put the pieces in her mind enough to let that thought really make sense when Kevin tenses and turns on his heel. She lurches forward, instinctively wrapping her arms around him and lifting him up so he can't run, "No, no, no, no, no, don't you dare," Having stopped his momentum, she puts him back on his feet. She spins Kevin around, holding him by his biceps as she leans down to ensure Kevin actually looks at her, "Hey, Kev, it's okay. I'm not mad about it. What I did was dangerous - trust me, Cathal gave me an earful both in the dome and after we got out of it. It wasn't anything I didn't deserve. Besides, you were just worried about my safety, right? That's sweet as anything. You're care a lot about everybody, and you try to take care of everybody, even when we - usually me - makes that job really difficult. That's better than bravery, to me."

She gives him a hug, then lets him go, smiling genuinely, "There's really nothing to apologize for, but, for whatever it's worth, apology accepted. If you want to bail before me and Cathal get up to no good, this is now the time."

Kevin Starr

Kevin was prepared for most things. He wasn't prepared for a hug, and so much kindness... He'd really hurt her feelings out there. And she not only forgave him, but called him sweet?... He felt like he was about to melt into a pile of emotions. It took him a second to compose himself.
"Th-thanks. -snif- I think I needed that. Yeah... I'm going."
He said, skedaddling with a little less haste than he usually would.

Meanwhile... Mako might've felt eyes on her, somewhere... Felt the gaze of a curious observer... Felt the creepy, soul-piercing, golden-eyed gaze... Of Tina Delaisser.

Eppie Cross

Eppie watches Kevin take his leave, smiling all the while, before she sighs, "Gee, what a sweet kid. Bless him," She turns around heading into Cathal's... She would call it a room, but upon looking inside, she found chaos is the word that comes into her mind. To be fair though, her room back on New Eden has seen a lot worse, so she doesn't comment or even think of it with any distaste, simply crossing her arms and looks at Cathal, "So, where's the beastie that needs a fish tank?"

Cathal McKay

Cathal pointed to the gently running shower, and the blue plesiosaur curled up under it. "Her name is Phillip," he said.

Eppie peeks into the bathroom, eyes alight in curiosity. When she spots the plesiosaur, she gasps, covering her mouth and doing an odd a thrilled but invulentary hop. She looks between Cathal and the literal dinosaur he has hiding in his shower, grinning broadly, “I can’t believe you actually stole a dinosaur. Donny’s gonna lose his shit,” She giggles, still too thrilled that she finally gets to vicariously live her dreams of having a pet on board the ship through Cathal, “I think have a tank that will fit her in my room.”

Cathal McKay

"This is not the first thing I've stolen, and I'm sure it won't be the last," Cathal said. "Anyway, they shot me. Twice. I'd rather have Philip than sue them. We're all fair now." He went into the shower and, leaving it on, pulled the little reptile free. Philip chirped and flapped her flippers, and then settled into Cathal's now very wet shirt. Philip's body was maybe a foot long, not counting her very long neck and tail. He carried her back over to Eppie, cradling her like he might a cat or a baby. "That would be ideal. I don't think she'd have a good time, living in my shower."

Eppie Cross
She hadn’t considered the fact they shot Cathal, then shrugs, “Sounds fair to me,” As Cathal pulls Phillip from the shower, “No, I don’t imagine she would be very happy with a shower for a home. Come on, my quarters are just down the hall,” She exits the room, waving for Cathal to follow her, heading into her room. Upon entering, she heads to her bed and lays herself flat on the ground, pulling herself halfway underneath the cot. There’s a triumphant ‘aha’ from below, and as Eppie wiggles out from under, there’s also a sound of something scraping quietly on the deck. Victoriously, she prevents four thick sheets of glass and two black pieces of metal, “This one should be big enough for her. I bought ‘em off a cool dude when I was on shore leave from the Erudite. You put it all together and activate the seal on this piece,” She waves on of the metallic black pieces, “And it turns into water tight tank. I’ve got a filter, too, if you think you’ll need that.”

Cathal McKay

Cathal curled around Philip, like he could hide her with his arms, as he followed Eppie to her room. "Perfect!" he said, setting Philip down while he picked up the pieces of the tank. "The filter might be a good idea," he said.

Eppie Cross
"Say no more," She wiggles under the bed again, pulling out a filter set from underneath, but also what appears to be many fish tank decorations. She gathers them in her arms and puts them on her bed, looking down at Phillip flapping from where Cathal set him down. She looks to Cathal with stars in her eyes, "Can I pick her up?"

Cathal McKay

"Absolutely you can," he said, inspecting the filter like it would tell him anything. "You gotta hold her like a cat. She needs her bum supported, or else she'll think she's fallin'."

Eppie Cross
Gently, as she had with her own cat back home - named Thunder because he was loud and fat - she brings Phillip into a cradle in her arms, ensuring she is supported. She sits down on the floor, cooing at Phillip and petting her lovingly. Suddenly, she sniffs, and she looks up at Cathal with tears in her eyes, “I’m living my dream. Do you know how much I loved the ‘Land Before Time’ when I was a kid, Cathal?A lot. A-fucking-lot.”

Cathal McKay

"I knew you would understand," Cathal said. "You can never tell Lacy though, because then I'll never hear the end of it." He gathered up the tank and the filter and poked his head out of the door to check for informants and authority figures.

Mako
Mako was standing right outside the door, and Cathal opened it to her face. "Hey Cathal," She said slowly. "I smelled fish, What are you up to?" She was half lying, she did smell some and of aquatic creature but her hopes of delicious, delicious fish had been dashed when she realized that whatever it was was very alive. Knowing the policy on pets, she knew whatever Cathal was doing was probably under the able but she also knew that it would be good to establish herself as not a rat. Plus she really wanted to know what that smell was.

Eppie Cross

Eppie hears Mako outside, and she makes a sort of strangled noise, as if she were screaming but hadn't opened her mouth to actually make the sound. She swiftly pulls her oversized jacket around herself and Phillip, resting her hands over the mass under her jacket to try and keep Phillip still and to hide the fact she now looks pregnant, "Oh, hey, Mako! Ha, we're not up to anything! Nothing at all! What're you doing in this neck of the woods?"

Cathal McKay

Cathal jumped and also tried not to scream, because he hadn't heard Mako outside the door at all. "Jaysus, you are a quiet one," he said. He had no good excuse for the aquarium and filter in his arms, so he said nothing about them. "Fish?" he said instead. "Must be coming down from the kitchen, I'd expect."

Eppie Cross

Eppie echoes Cathal from inside the room, "Yeah, it's probably from the kitchen. No fish here at all. Nope."

The mines of Ferav9V
mission two briefing

  • Ferav9V is a small mineral and ice rich asteroid located on the fringe in federation associated territory is currently being mined by small independent crew under the moniker; Orichalt inc. The base lacks gravity and life support functions off extracting O2 from ice harvested on the asteroid. The system it orbits in is uninhabited and uncolonized.

“So-” Chaya said, “First one to kill a space walrus wins a prize.”

No one laughed. She thought it was funny. Maybe the dying noises on that last transmission had been a little much for most of the NASA types in the room. Maybe know one kept track of the Jiian empire embarrassing itself quiet as much as the second alliance military. She shrugged it off.

“We don't know if there are any survivors. If there are no survivors our job is to confirm these creatures and get samples if we can. We'll be handing this one off to either DSR or First Contact- depending if this is a Bee or boogeyman situation.”

Chaya had been referring to surprise first contact situations as “Bee situations” Or “code bee” Since the events on mars. Most of NASA had.

---

The supplies for this mission were sparser. In the shuttle there were only three boxes for HQ Set up and Donny was quietly debating over two models of a high powered rifle in a quiet corner. He had also traded out his ultra light weight exosuit to a borrowed standard one. The worry lines around his eyes seemed to be doing over time, asteroid cryptids seemed to put the fear in him.

Goody was sitting quietly inside the shuttle. His exosuit was not NASA at all. It was beetley black and hard to place aesthetically. If you didn't know him you might mistake that he already had the helmet on- his face was a reflected featureless sheer black.

[I always knew big foot was real,] Goody signed to Fin, who sat across from him. Here, Ionian Sign, big foot was the stand in for cryptids and boogeymen, but the image of a Sasquatch in a space suite was some how charming and persistent when it was conveyed.

“Alright- Everyone in!” Donny cried, having finally decided on which riffle he most wanted to stake his life on. He started to take a quick head count before shuttle took off.

Miloj

Checking his carbine and pistol for what was probably the tenth time, Miloj grumbled under his breath. "Those are face ripping teeth. Do not like face ripping teeth," not talking to anyone particular in the shuttle, Miloj continued to grumble to himself and checked his firearms again. "On Xiphos, rebels threw crazy space hound at friend. Friend got face ripped off. Lots of scream, lots of blood. I do not want face ripped. I like face where is." Finally content that his weapons were loaded and had undergone more scrutiny in that short time than the rest of their entire existence, Miloj leaned back in his seat and pulled out a flask from his coat, taking a looooooong gulp. Liquid courage was always a good idea. Hopefully all of the alcohol in his system would make him poisonous, or at least unappetizing, to whatever may or may not want to eat his face.

Eppie Cross

Eppie's hasn't been able to breathe right since the debrief.

Let people think it's because of the voice clip of someone dying, the alarming last transmission of large teeth. Let them think it's her 'delicate scientist sensibilities' being nauseated by the graphic nature of it all. But if she is honest, the minute Ferav9V was described, it has felt as if ice had been injected into her veins, freezing her solid from the inside out.

Zero gravity. No oxygen or life support of any kind. So uninhabitable that Donny is handing out the exosuits to the crew. Just like walking through space.

She'd cry if she could feel her body at all.

She's half convinced she's either gone into shock or she's about to drop. She doesn't even recognize she's put on her exosuit and heeded Donny's call to get into the shuttle. When she sits down next to Miloj's hulking frame, hears his story of someone he knew getting his face ripped off, Eppie hands start to shake. She wraps her arms around herself to hide the shakes, but there's no missing the stress in her expression. She only feels like bursting into tears, her heart pounding in her ears, the air thin and a chore to drag into her lungs, as if there is no oxygen at all, because there isn't anything, she's drifting, the shuttle is gone and she's suffocating, she can't breathe, she's going to die-

She snatches the flask from Miloj's hands, and takes a huge swig. When she's finished her sizable swig, she very pointedly looks at no one, looking down at the floor of the shuttle.

Cathal McKay

Despite the fact that they were headed into zero gravity, Cathal still only had half his exo suit on.

"Look at these faces," he said. "I've been to cheerier funerals." And he had, back home.

Finn, at least, looked vastly more preoccupied by Goody's close proximity than by the very toothy creature waiting for them. He wanted to tease them about it, but that would only make the pair of them flustered and large, so he just patted Finn's head on his way to sit next to Eppie, who looked ready for death. He ignored her brief theft of Miloj's flask.

"You ever been on a mining asteroid before?" he asked her instead. He wasn't quite sure what it was that had turned normally fearless Eppie so frozen, but talking might help.
