    overview.

    T
WENTY THOUSAND YEARD AGO, a GIANT METEORITE barreled through the atmosphere and crash-landed in the GALAR REGION. The event had a cataclysmic impact on the continent. Earthquakes violently shook the region, triggering a massive tsunami which devastated the area. Only a fraction of the human and Pokémon population native to the region survived. Due to its thick and dense exterior, no surviving being was able to crack the meteorite's shell.

Over the course of SEVENTEEN THOUSAND YEARS, Galar's population was steadily replenished. Humans evolved and survived in greater numbers as they learned to better coexist with Pokémon. The devastation of the meteorite was mostly forgotten and proof of its impact could only be found in the form of crude cave paintings. People began to assume it had always been there and others even started worshipping it. The meteorite remained impenetrable. No Pokémon, let alone any sword or arrow, could pierce the solid rock. Whatever stories or tall tales were said about the meteor, no one could have predicted what lied dormant inside.

One fateful day, THREE THOUSAND YEARS AGO, a Pokémon unlike any other awoke from its long slumber. The meteorite, which had been protecting the beast during its hibernation, suddenly cracked. The ground beneath the stone shook violently as the gigantic, draconic Pokémon burst from the meteor. Its awakening alerted nearby villages and Pokémon, most of whom fled due to the power it emitted. Yet, it seemed the power was not enough for the Pokémon. Its slumber had weakened it. For the Pokémon, the largest source of power was Galar itself. It emitted a large, red light from its body into the sky. Everyone in the region could see the light and watched in horror as it brought upon a BLACK STORM to consume the region.

In mere hours, the region was blanked by darkness. Pokémon living in the wilds began to act AGGRESSIVE AND ERRATIC. Over the next several days, they experienced bizarre and dangerous changes. Reports indicated that wild Pokémon were RAPIDLY GROWING IN SIZE and targeting anything in their path. In cases where these giant Pokémon could be defeated, they returned to their original states upon passing out. This phenomenon became a widespread occurrence throughout the region. Pokémon experts hypothesized that this sudden aggression and transformation was due to the black storm, which appeared to be producing unidentifiable energy particles.

In the month following the black storm, Galar has struggled to combat the Pokémon. Many have tried to defeat it and all have failed. The region remains shrouded in darkness. People are beginning to panic as there is no guarantee the continent will survive for long under its siege. Galar is in need of a miracle. Or, perhaps, an UNLIKELY BAND OF HEROES.

Our settling will be a MEDIEVAL / HISTORICAL FANTASY GALAR. Feel free to use games like Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, or Baldur's Gate to help conceptualize this. Galar itself is shrouded in darkness due to the black storm caused by Eternatus, who has not been officially named.

We are diving the world by the inspiration used for the cultural regions we see in the series. GALAR, KALOS, AND PALDEA are European inspired regions, so they are within closer proximity to one another. Other regions are not inaccessible, but it requires more travel. Characters should predominantly hail from Galar, then Kalos or Paldea, and finally any other regions with a sound reason for their travels.

Pokémon and humans co-exist for the most part, although some Pokémon are more peaceful than others. WILD POKÉMON are not as docile as what we see in modern-day. They are more fierce, independent, and are not easily caught. In fact, Galar at this point in history does not "catch" Pokémon by any modern means. An individual must BOND WITH A POKÉMON in order to gain their trust and loyalty. Poké Balls have less to do with capturing Pokémon and more to do with carrying or traveling the Pokémon for convenience. Otherwise, Pokémon do not remain in their balls and typically FREE ROAM alongside their partner humans.

Due to the difficulty of bonding with Pokémon, the average person is only partnered with ONE OR TWO POKÉMON in their lives. Trainers, or humans with professions that require the assistance of Pokémon, are generally the exception to this rule. Still, finding someone with up to six Pokemon is incredibly rare. Characters will start with THREE POKÉMON for this reason. Any additional Pokemon will be earned throughout the story.

NO LEGENDARY OR MYTHICAL POKÉMON will be accepted. Region variants should be rare, although Pokémon from the other European inspired regions (Kalos, Paldea) are more common. Please try to avoid using artificial Pokémon that would not suit a medieval / historical fantasy time period. We will have a ROLL SYSTEM FOR SHINIES. Pokémon will also represent your character's class. For example, a ranger would likely utilize a Decidueye due to its extreme precision. A monk may use a Hitmonlee, Jigglypuff for a bard, and so on. More on that will be elaborated on in the class section.

Due to the black storm, wild Pokémon are steadily becoming more AGGRESSIVE and may randomly DYNAMAX (although this term has not yet been coined).

As mentioned, wild Pokémon are not caught by traditional means. There will not be a capture system set in place because of this.

There will be battles throughout the roleplay between characters and wild Pokémon. The system we will use to determine winners will depend on the CONTEXT OF THE BATTLE. For example, if the party is encountering a boss that is not meant to be defeated then we will simply roll to see what becomes of the party and their Pokémon versus rolling to win. Battles between characters can be plotted or left up to rolling.

Characters and their teams will have SIX STATS: strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma. Each stat will go up to FIVE POINTS. Five points earns you a +2 modifier on rolls, four points earns you +1, three points is +0, two points costs you -1, and one point or less costs you -2. Stats will coincide with your class. Additionally, you will have a number of SKILLS to choose for your character. These are predominantly skills you'll find in D&D, but some of them are adjusted for the setting.

In certain circumstances, you will need to ROLL for your character to achieve something. A stealth (dexterity) check to sneak by undetected. This roll will cover both your character and their Pokémon. Some situations may require your Pokémon alone to be stealthy, in which case you will still roll for them. This is where a rogue and their complimentary Pokémon team would excel.

Characters do not wield magic themselves, so their class is primarily represented by their values, personality, and Pokémon team. There are TWELVE CLASSES in total: barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, warlock, and wizard. There is a limit of ONE CLASS at a time. Pokémon teams, stats, and skills should compliment your class. Ultimately, the idea is to get fun and creative while still embodying these classes. Feel free to pitch concepts not listed. Throughout the world, many people place their faith in the legendary Pokémon of their region. Others believe in charismatic leaders, spiritual energy, and more. There is NO DOMINANT RELIGION. Characters are also welcome to have faith in their region's respective legendary and mythical Pokémon.

    ♚ THE STONE
Over these thousands of years, a population of Galar began PRAYING TO THE METEORITE in HAMMERLOCKE. This is due to a shift in atmosphere surrounding the stone. The air feels almost... alive. Pokémon sometimes appear to be drawn to it, although there are those who dismiss this as mere curiosity. Nevertheless, there is a faithful group devoted to it. Eternatus' awakening has divided this community. There are those who believe Eternatus who lead them into a new age, others think the region is to be punished for its lack of faith.

    ♚ ZACIAN AND ZAMAZENTA
The myth of ZACIAN AND ZAMAZENTA, legendary Pokémon of the Galar region, is a bedtime story for many children. Families with a long history in Galar view these elusive Pokemon as deities. Some stories suggest that Zacian and Zamazenta have appeared in Galar's moments of need before disappearing back into their place of slumber, the Slumbering Weald. There are a number of statues throughout the region depicting Zacian and Zamazenta as lupine-like Pokémon, although there is no one consistent interpretation. The only exception to these inconsistencies is a SWORD AND SHIELD, said to be the source of their power.

    ♚ EARTH AND NATURE
Some in Galar believe praying to stones or legendary deities is unnecessary when there is EARTH AND NATURE. There is no need to pray when one can simply care for the earth as it cares for them. These people discourage taking nature's gifts for granted and thank the earth for every harvest, the trees for their protection, and the soil for its nourishment.

faction

info

scroll

There are various factions active in Galar with their own respective goals and methods to achieve them. These factions are predominantly inspired by D&D factions, but renamed for the roleplay.

    ♚ DAHLIAS
This network of TRAINERS AND SPIES seeks to tip the scales in favor of the innocent, the weak, and the poor within Galar. Dahlia agents pride themselves on being incorruptible defenders of good, and they never hesitate to aid the oppressed. Individual Dahlia agents operate alone, relying on their wits and extensive information networks to gain an advantage over their enemies.

    ♚ ORDER OF THE SHIELD
The Order of the Shield is a relatively new organization dedicated to SMITING EVIL wherever it lurks and without hesitation. The Order understands that evil wears many guises. That is why its members act on their own authority, identifying threats and smashing them before they can grow.

    ♚ AGATE CONCLAVE
The Agate Enclave is a far-ranging group that OPPOSES THREATS TO THE NATURAL WORLD and helps others survive in the wilderness. Branches of the organization are scattered throughout Galar and often operate in isolation from the others. This existence teaches the Enclave’s members a fierce self-reliance and mastery of certain battling and survival skills.

    ♚ AEGIRINE
The Aegirine, or BLACK NETWORK, is an organization of well-trained mercenaries, savvy rogues, and crafty trainers who seek to expand their influence and power throughout Galar. Agents of the Aegirine feel that if they play by the rules, nothing gets done. They walk a fine line when it comes to the letter of the law and don’t shy away from the occasional shady deal or illicit activity to get what they want.

    ♚ CLAMARE
Clamare, the PREDECESSORS TO TEAM YELL, are an organization of corrupt trainers, historians, scientists, and mercenaries. They seek to take advantage of the chaos caused by the black storm and seize control of the region. A sinister plot is unfolding within the ranks of Clamare.
