Devil's Food
Phoenixblood Academy sat on the edges of a great mountain, with powerful spires reaching up towards the clouds. The famous academy was home to the wizards who studied the various schools of wizardry, and all things strange and fantastic. Today was an exciting day, one that many young wizards and teachers looked forward to, Orientation Day.
The balcony was a large space facing the mountain with a dozen chairs set up and a stage decorated with balloons, streamers, and colorful magic sparklers that spewed glittering fairy dust. At the back of the balcony, was a professor in a brilliant orange robe and blonde hair. He was looking over the room before the students came for orientation.
"Professor Goldleaf" A pale woman spoke from the door, and made the professor turn his head.
"Yes, Ms. Driscoll?" He asked with a suave tone in his voice.
"What are we forgetting here?" She tapped a finger on the wall. Goldleaf wondered a moment at why she was hiding in the shade, but he remembered quickly that she had a special affliction to deal with.
"Uh... well the students of course!" He laughed.
"Program info booklets, you daydreaming fool." She snapped at him, which only made him feel embarrassed
"Ah, you compliment my forgetfulness with your prudence. I'll run and get them." He tried to act cool and started towards the door, but Ms. Driscoll showed in her arms that she already had the booklets. He laughed nervously and took them from her. He didn't have much experience working with vampires, but he was assured that Driscoll was an expert at controlling the condition, and she was a master of occult studies. He himself was more focused on the practical uses for magic in society. She left him to finish the job that he was eager to do.
Later, the bell started to toll, and the students walked onto the balcony for orientation, where they could take their seats...
