This roleplay was inspired by the works of Suzanne Collins, who wrote the hunger games, and my idol George Orwell, who wrote animal farm an nineteen eighty four. Also this man whose videos helped me improve my writing by tenfold. Seriously, check him out. His videos are great
Holy shit, I've never spent more time writing in my life, I need to exercise more. (Note, I realize that these links lead to the realistic or modern section. I moved sections and decided it was easier to keep the character sheets and OOC in the same places.)

In the year 2071, the world is a mundane place. People have been brainwashed into believing that they should only do as instructed by the government. Only around three billion people are alive, and live on the same continent. The continent is a deformed Asia, most of which are the remains of China and Russia. (if anyone wants to draw a map for me pm me, I can't draw to save my life) they are all controlled and programmed to follow the rule of one man. He is known only by the name "Messiah" and has rarely been seen in public.
But, let's go back. The year 2071 was a dark year, and the new world had been in existence for a little less than a decade. Many events led to the collapse of the world and the rise of the N.U.S.S.R (new Union of soviet socialist republics). First on our timeline is the year 2035, with the war on east Asia. After tension was once again rising with more powerful nuclear warheads being developed, Japan, China, and Korea had made an alliance known as the East Asian federation. They began working on a top-secret weapon designed to tear apart continents, by creating a rip in time and space, and opening up a small black hole for a short period of time. After an experiment went awry, and most of North Korea was turned into ocean, the Russian military took this incident out of context, and claimed it as a direct attack on Russian territory that failed. Russian general Anatoly Kvashnin junior decided that it would be too destructive to bomb Asia with nuclear weapons, and declared they would invade with the use of conventional warfare. The sheer superiority of the Russian military's air forces overwhelmed the ground troops of the easte Asian federation, and they surrendered. Each countries allies were enraged, and launched invasions on the Russian empire. This caused a domino effect that lead to the Third World War, in the year 2040.
Nearly every nation with any military force at all fought in the war. In the end, America and her allies won the war, driving back the Russians and reclaiming east Asia for their respective countries. This would have been the end of the war, but the Russians weren't going to lose this easy. The new general in charge of the military was a brutal, unforgiving man by the name of Vadim Bogdam. Vadim dropped several large nuclear bombs on the U.S, rather than launching nuclear misses that would be able to be detected in the atmosphere long before they arrived. The attack was well coordinated and within minutes the United States was a flattened wasteland. Obviously, this crashed the economy as the stock market fell apart, and a huge manifacturing powerhosue had been flattened. The next target was the United States' allies. Many people fled to Russia to seek shelter from the bombs, and airports and borders were flooded with traffic.
The domino effect that the previous general before Vadim had happened, and Within days the only two continents left standing were most of Africa and half of Asia. Africa would continue to function as normal, mostly cut off from the outside world, save from South Africa and most of North Africa. The next twenty years were spent recovering from nuclear war, and many of the after effects had took their toll. Vadim took over and established himself as the mysterious figure "the messiah" who would make everyone equal, and no man would be higher in rank than another, as long as they both did as told. Anyone who defied him must be cleansed from the world. What was left of Russia and China were built into huge concentration camps, and a society filled with brainwashed people who were programmed to follow the laws, and follow a strict schedule. Their living conditions were to be the same, their rations were to be the same,and their careers were to be assigned to them by government officials. People who refused to follow the laws or schedules were linched in public, after being whipped and humiliated.
Which leads us to the year 2071, where humanity has become nothing more than a collective hive of people doing the same things, and behaving the same way. However, some people had managed to escape being brainwashed by the government, and still had memories of before the fall of humanity. An underground organization was formed, and was labeled by the messiah as a terrorist organization meant to disrupt the system he had so carefully designed. They would kidnap innocent citizens, and torture them. In reality, despite what Vadim teached the people, the underground organization known as the memory snatchers would attempt to, as their name suggests, remind the people they kidnapped of their past so theater could some day form an large enough army to revolt against the huge militaristic government.

The current ruler of the entire remaining world outside of Africa, known as "the messiah" he is a power hungry control freak who is afraid to show his face in public, since he is just a human, and he is fragile. He hides behinds posters and military opposition, and rules by fear by torturing his civilians and erasing their memories.

Jamison Miles
The leader of the rebellion/terrorist organization, a destructive extremist who believes in anarchy and lawlessness. He thinks that an oppressive leader who hides is a coward who should be killed for restricting humans from their rights to live freely, and that there should be no laws.
After the war: (I realize this is from the videogame overwatch, but junkrat was the perfect picture for this character)
Lena Blackwood:
The woman who's voice is power, the representative of the messiah, who spoke words of wisdom in his absence very day during worship. She leads the worship during the morning, but for the rest of the day lives underground as the co founder of the notorious rising Phoenix terrorist organization.
