Turn of the Dark Ages [sevenfold x lifenovel]

Before the times of the Dark Ages was the reign of dragons. Dragons everywhere were well respected and even held high positions in human societies. But then came along thoughts and ideas of individuality and separation from the dragons. The humans began turning on the dragons because of all the power they wielded. The dragons tried to reason back but most ended up dead. Some few survivors took on human appearances by taking human vessels. But these vessels didn't last long. Then came along a promising prophecy for the dragons.

Two will rise to lead the ever ancient species of dragons. But these two must venture out and experience the hardships of the original dragons, seek out the origins to if they are ever to succeed in finding our true homeland, Leine. These two will bear the uniqueness that was once the Dragon King's and Queen's.

Now during the dark ages humans are suspicious of every little thing. They hold a grudge against the dragons. They forbid magic because of the dragons. And they prohibit the source of fire or light due to the dragons. Humans are so paranoid that they are even going against each other in suspicions that maybe one or the other are aiding in the return of the dragons. But what they don't know is that really dragons are living among them. But how much longer can they keep it up?

Name: Scylla Griaule

Age: Twenty years of age. Considered an adolescent to the dragons, and so, doesn't have the ability to use all of her powers to their full capacity.

Gender: Female

Personality: Scylla is a little guarded in the fact that she chooses not to socialise too much for fear of revealing who she truly is; a dragon. Otherwise however, after growing used to a person, she is generally more open to proper conversation. Cheeky and perhaps a little blunt, Scylla can be an amusing character to spend time with.

History: Basic history for now until I think of something more detailed— spending her time hiding her true identity, etc.

Abilities: Earth-elemental of sorts, being able to control geological things in nature such as resuming the growth of a wilting plant. This mostly implies a very small plant however, such as a single flower, as Scylla isn't able to use her abilities to their full extent, being quite young and inexperienced. As well as that, anything drastic takes a lot of energy. Scylla also has typical fire-wielding abilities similarly to almost all dragons, but as well as that she has the ability to read the emotions a person in currently feeling. This, like the others, isn't totally accurate.

Dragon Appearance: -To be edited in-

Human Appearance: Scylla's vessel has mahogany coloured hair, reaching to her mid-back and ending in slight curls. Her eyes are a malachite hue with darker flecks, as well as amber rims around the irises.

Her vessel's complexion is rather pale, and she is of a slender build with only slight curves, being more of a petite girl.

Distinct Tattoo Mark: On her upper back, between her shoulder-blades is a tattoo of a compass, with a few feather designs surrounding it, referring to the journey she doesn't realise she will need to take to find the homeland of the dragons'.

Name: Kyro Zephine

Age: Twenty two years. (Adolescent in dragon years.)

Gender: Male

Personality: He calls for more attention than he needs. Kyro loves getting into fights since he is always physical and fit. At times he will just want no soul bothering him for he sulks sometimes but for the most part he loves attention. Kyro is obedient though when needed and to only those he respects and gives him respect. He is iffy about strangers and doesn't open up easily to anyone. Kyro can seem very dark on the outside but really has a warm-hearted interior.

History: He has had a series of crimes that he has committed in some cities but he somehow always has connections to get out. Kyro has always been on the run though since his pre-teen years because of fighting issues with the officials and family issues.

Abilities: He has the ability to control the air and all its characteristics about it meaning he can use it for healing if he wanted to or to kill someone off by decreasing their oxygen levels. Not only can he manipulate air but also wield water to his command. With the combination of both he can create ice but takes mastery energy levels to do so. And his earliest ability he developed was one of illusions. He can manipulate one's mind to believe they are seeing and feeling an image that is really not existent.

Dragon Appearance: {He contains none of the jewelry and that the yellow parts of the picture are instead icy blue. And that the black feathers are too icy blue. Credit to the artist: pinali}

He stands to be 6'3" and weighs about 158 lbs. He has a few scars from some fist fights that went bad.

"Get out of here! And never come back!" The door slammed shut after a raggedy-beaten up man. The man gave smile and spat out blood. He heaved himself up and stretched his arms. "They didn't put up much of a fight..." he muttered to himself as he sauntered off leaving behind the pub that kicked him out. "Huh...no one ever puts up much of a good fight these days," he mumbled to the desolate street. He stopped and leaned against the wall looking around hoping for some kind of enjoyment, but instead something else caught his attention. An eerie ball of fire was floating in the air. He looked around to see if anybody or any other soul could see this obvious bright light. Not a single soul seemed to be around. He shrugged and whispered, "What the heck? It's not like anything else could happen tonight." Slowly at first he approached the flame hoping to grasp the mysterious light. But as he tried to touch it, it flickered out. "Darn," he muttered. Not a second later though the flame appeared once more but farther out in a different location. His head tilted slightly due to his on growing curiosity, "Now this is weird." He once again attempted to touch the flame causing it to flicker out and appear somewhere else again. "Hmmm..." he hummed as he continued to capture the light. Soon he came to realize this was a flame not to be captured but to be followed. His icy blue eyes glinted with enthusiasm as he continued to follow the light only to fade away once he realized it led him to the outskirts of the large town to the tiniest, most exclusive pub there could ever exist. He looked around hoping to find the light once again reappear but it seemed to have led him to his destination. "Why here?" he questioned. Out of curiosity he walked inside wondering what or who is going to be in the building.

There weren't many people inside the pub, it being a lot quieter than most at this time of night. Whatever people were inside sat talking to each other in their own groups, but there were also individuals who sat by themselves, concentrating on the drinks in front of them. One of these individuals was a young woman who by her appearance could've been no more than twenty, except unlike the others she had only arrived by the fact that she had just sat down by the window.

She was slender and of an average height, with a pale complexion that was either genetic or else she didn't spend much time in the sunshine. Although it was none of these, not that any human would realise. This was merely a vessel.

Her hair was a mahogany colour and reached down to the middle of her back, between her shoulder blade, curling slightly at the ends. It was a little dishevelled which to anyone who was observant would mean she had been outside of a while beforehand, and her eyes were an unusual pale green with darker jade flecks surrounding the pupil, and an amber colour rimming her irises. Her pupils however were unusual, being narrower shapes than the full circle of a normal pupil.

It was a strange ball of fire that had directed her to this pub, and now without any notion of what to do since it had vanished, she had just settled with sitting down. Maybe if she ordered something and sat down for a while, something would happen. If not, she'd just go again.

His eyes scanned around his surroundings, curiosity lighting his abnormal reptile-slitted pupil icy blue eyes. I can find some enjoyment here. These guys seem like they can handle a tussle. He ran a hand through his white hair that seemed always wild and everywhere. A few steps into the pub and eyes were already turning towards him. A slight smile grew on his face. He began to roll his arms and stretch, preparing for a fight, but then an odd feeling overtook him. He froze and examined the pub once more and its populace. The feeling was slight but there. He took a few more steps towards the bar but he felt it wasn't the right area. Returning to his original spot he instead decided to head in the other direction, away from the bar and towards the windows of the pub.

This feeling. Last I felt it was years ago. What can it mean? And at this moment? Feeling a strong jolt, meaning he was heading towards the right direction, he continued walking towards the windows. Nothing in particular stood out to the man until his eyes landed on a young lady. His eyes examined her. Mahogany hair, a pale complexion, and noticeable green eyes. Really noticeable. A gorgeous green with dragon eyes. She's a dragon. A feeling of excitement took over. It has been years since I met another dragon. He looked around to see if anyone was paying attention to her. He didn't want anyone killing her just when he got to meet her. Dragons are rare nowadays and humans will do anything to rid of us all completely.

He quickly sat in front of the woman, knowing it must be rude but that he needed to talk to her. "So what brings a gorgeous lass like you to these neck of the woods?" he asked.

"Huh?" Her pale fern-coloured gaze moved from the window to the male that had just sat down in front of her, taken by mild surprise. With his sudden approach she hadn't had much time to come to the same realisation he had, until she noticed his eyes— unusual in that same way like her own. There was also that feeling in the air, that sort of .. aura. Auras weren't her strong point but she did have a sense of them at least. It just wasn't clear.

"... Just wandering, I suppose," was her response after a short pause she had used to study the fellow dragon before her, her voice a little skeptical. She was only a little wary. After all, when was the last time she had bumped into one of her own kind? And she wasn't sure whether to mention that ball of fire or not either. Perhaps she had just been seeing things, and she didn't want to sound crazy and end up ruining a chance to converse with another dragon.

As she answered he could detect a hint of wariness. He realized that he needed to somehow prove that he was trustworthy. Then an idea popped into his head. Hmm perhaps this was fate. There is only one way to tell. He closed his eyes for a minute and concentrated on an image. All of a sudden a ball of flame appeared in front of him and the lass. "And before you ask, no, no one else can see this ball of flame except for you and me," he explained. His eyes stayed focused on the flame though since it was really the work of his magic, trying to keep the image of the flame and its movements in his head.

"Have you perhaps seen something like this recently?" he asked. His eyes were unwavering from the flame.

"I— uh, yeah," she responded and gave a slight nod of her head, hues focusing upon the ball of fire with newfound curiosity. The questioning had been sudden though, so she hadn't been very quick in her replies.

"Wait, you saw it as well? ... Did it lead you here by any chance..?" she questioned after a moment, gaze lifting once more to fall on the male again. Maybe she wasn't crazy after all.

He could feel his power draining from projecting the image. The flame flickered out as he closed his eyes and leaned back to regain some energy. Hearing the questions and wanting to answer he replied, "Yes...it happened to have led me here. And I am guessing for you, seeing as how you are the only other reptilian. You know how we musn't say the 'd' word around here." He leaned forward once again after feeling some strength back. His complexion was a tad bit paler than usual but his eyes were dazzling diamonds.

"Well .. what do you think we're supposed to do now that we're here? I mean, you don't bump into someone that often," she remarked after another short pause, hands sliding into the front pockets of her jacket, referring to others of their kind when she said 'someone'. This guy didn't seem too threatening. Because of their small numbers, dragons were generally docile towards each other anyway.

She had decided that the ball of fire had purposefully lead them to each other for whatever reason, as that being some sort of coincidence was difficult to imagine. But did that mean that someone had been controlling the fire? She had no idea, and it was puzzling, and maybe a little worrying.

"Well I know for sure we were meant to meet each other. So first how about introductions? We can start with that," he replied. "My name is Kyro. Kyro Zephine. And who may I be meeting the pleasure of?" Kyro asked. He stuck out his hand showing a sign of welcoming and hopefully trust. Kyro had a feeling that this was suppose to happen, but for what he did not know. And because of current times of danger and suspicions going about he had to at least establish some bonds with others of his kind since they were dying out.

"Scylla. Scylla Griaule," she introduced herself, extending a hand to shake his briefly before drawing it back once more and offering a very small simper, having decided he was most likely trustworthy.

"Yeah, I suppose us meeting was a meant to be type thing, for whatever reason," she remarked, giving a slight nod of agreement. "But it's a weird place to be lead to. I've been trying to avoid people, not spend time around them. "

He gave an inside laugh to himself finding it ironic that he loves attention and doesn't mind humans because he loves danger. "Well how about we go somewhere else to talk?" Kyro suggested. He stood up but then suddenly felt shivers running down his back. His attention turned towards a man with a black cloak. Kyro sensed danger from him. Adrenline coursed through his body and he acted quickly. "Scylla let's go," he said. He took a few steps forward to stand beside a waitress holding cups of drinks. Luckily she had a cup of water that would be easy for Kyro to manipulate. He first filled the minds of the people around them with a false image of serenity while he whipped out an offensive attack towards the man.

Scylla was quick to get to her feet and away from the table, moving across to the door of the bar in alarm. She was able to defend herself, but it was more difficult indoors and it took most of the energy from her that she'd probably require to escape afterwards. So she decided she would hold back for now unless Kyro seemed to be having trouble, although he did look like the type that enjoyed a fight.

I knew it was dangerous to come in here ... How did that man realise who we were so quickly?

Energy was draining out of Kyro's body but he didn't give in. He slowly got closer to the man. But this wasn't like others he has confronted, this one had abnormal skills. The man would whip out 50 tiny needles at once at Kyro. With Kyro barely missing him. Kyro glanced back quickly and saw Scylla near the door. "Go outside!" he ordered as he turned back towards the man. He began staggering in his steps though as he continued holding onto the illusion into people's mind while trying to defend himself and Scylla with a tiny stream of water. The man noticed his weakening and advances toward him.

Scylla was about to do as she was told; to turn and run, but then she realised Kyro was having trouble, and the attacker was advancing. In her panic she focused her gaze upon the wooden boards of the roof above the cloaked man. The pale green of her irises spread over the entirety of her eyes including the pupils, glowing very faintly as she cast all her concentration onto what she hoped to achieve. Since wood was a natural material, she was able to control it, and make it rot, or the opposite. But this time she was going to make it rot, and that's what she did.

It wasn't a guaranteed defence for them, but if the cloaked man stayed still it would work. The nails that held in the wooden boarding began to bend and rust, and the wood weakened to the point where it collapsed in on itself. The other humans wouldn't notice if Kyro kept up is illusion. As Scylla did this, she felt her energy drain quickly, eyelids dropping as she struggled to keep focused.

The cloaked man froze as he felt the floor beneath him give in. His left leg sunk down catching him off-guard and leading him to twist him ankle in an awful position. Kyro spotted the sudden shift of balance from the man change as he stumbled and fell. He glanced up to see Scylla straining with energy. I have to end this quickly or else we are both done for. With all his remaining strength he enforced his illusion on the minds of the people as he walked towards Scylla. He glanced back to make sure that the man was not attempting another attack. The man was struggling to get up from his injury but collapsed once more on the floor. Kyro quickened his pace until he reached the door of the pub and pulled Scylla out with him banishing the illusion on the humans.

Scylla unfocused her attention from the cloaked man again, pale green eyes returning to their normal appearance. She stumbled a little as she was pulled out before regaining her balance once more, groggy and pretty drained from even a short show of her abilities. "..Wha .. How did he guess what we were so quickly?" she asked after a moment, still at a loss about that. They had barely been in there for ten minutes.

Kyro panted, "Some humans dedicate their whole lives training to hunt us down. He must've been quite a professional. But let us not stop now. I can tell he will not quit till we are dead." Kyro took a few deep breaths hoping to regain some energy. His eyes had lost some of its gleam from the massive usage. "I know a place where we can talk in privacy," Kyro said once he took a breather. "Do you think you still have some energy just for the ground to cover our tracks? I saw back there with the floor and realized you are an earth wielder. And the way we are heading contains many dirt tracks," Kyro explained.

Scylla probably did have just enough energy to do as he had requested, and after a short pause gave a nod of her head. "Yeah, I think so. Come on then before he recovers," she replied, more energetic in her way of speech than she actually physically was, and started walking after him. Her own malachite-hued eyes had lost some of their spark, and walking was tiring, but she knew they'd have to press on anyways. After all, their lives were in danger and that was enough encouragement.

Kyro staggered towards the intimidating forest that grew at the edge of the town. He looked up at the night sky and saw the black sky with stars but no moon. "Nature must be favoring us. Tonight is a new moon. We can easily see through the darkness in the forest. That should mask our presence but still we must be cautious," Kyro commented. As they reached the border of trees he sought for a specific path. Kyro narrowed his eyes and willed some of his dragon aura in his eyes. Then a faint light radiated from a forest path. "This way," Kyro whispered. "The path that we are taking can only be seen by those who wield magic," he explained as he continued walking down the path.

Scylla's gaze lingered over the path before her that he had chosen, momentarily taking in the view of the rather intimidating looking forest, before pressing on and following, sticking close to Kyro for safety's sake. She chose to stay silent now unless asked a question, because her fatigue was so great, and she just didn't feel like speaking.

It really did suck how little endurance she had with her abilities, Scylla mused, using the silence to question whether or not it would be possible for her to improve this.

"Where exactly are we going?" she finally asked after a while, hues lifting from the ground again to look at Kyro and then in front of her again. Her voice had lost some of its energetic-ness too, as walking for a length of time in this state had only furthered her lack of energy.

Kyro breathed in and out tasting the air. "We are going somewhere hidden. I do not want to specify where until we reach it. There may be some sound trackers after us," Kyro whispered as he walked on. He stepped over overgrown roots and shubbery.

Soon he heard the slight trickling of a river nearby. "This way. We are close," Kyro said. He walked towards the direction of the river. He dipped his hands into the river taking in its energy. The energy flowed through his body lending him enough strength to do what he needed to do.

"We are here," Kyro mumbled as he approached the bottom of the mountain that reached the mouth of the river. "Wait here," Kyro instructed. Slowly at first to test the water, Kyro walked into the river. Once he reached the center of the mouth he faced the mountain. Kyro closed his eyes focusing all his soul into the water. Feeling the water and thinking about the water's characteristics, Kyro's eyes opened his icy blue moving with the rhythm at which the water flowed. He lunged his arms up into the sky raising a medium sized wall of water and splashing it onto the mountain.

Nothing seemed to happen at first but then the wall seemed to disappear. Disappear but not crumbling.

"Quickly enter through the water veil. Inside is a cave," Kyro called out to Scylla.
