Triple K Stable

Fading Shadow

On the Run as always
Triple K Stable is a well known Eventing stable. The stable has four barns. Each one has 10 stalls, two tack rooms, an office, wash stall, and a feed room. Along with the barns, there's six pastures, three paddocks, an indoor arena, and outdoor arena. Triple K Stable has a two page and growing waiting list for people to board. Now a stall had recently opened up and the stable owner called the next person on the waiting list. The person is showing up sometime today and everyone at the stable is excited to meet the new boarder.

Sitting in the front seat, Andriana's dad was driving the truck which was pulling his big fancy 8 horse trailer. Inside the trailer was Andriana's pride and joy, Cobolt. "So...Dad, explain to me again why you are having me stay at Aunt Tinna's and board Cobolt at a stable he doesn't know." Her father, Lucas Welkees, glanced over at her. "Andriana, I'll be too focused on my shows that I won't have time to care for you. So your aunt has offered to help." Scoffing at what he said, she crossed her arms and stared out the window. "Plus I think it will do you some good to stay in one place for a while and finish school." Then he turned down this super long driveway. On both sides, there was pastures with ten or so horses. "Andriana, I think you will like it here if you just give it a try." But she ignored him. Lucas parked the truck and trailer in front of a barn. Opening the door, Andriana didn't pay attention to anything but making sure Cobolt was okay.

Cobolt

Feeling the trailer stopped, Cobolt stomped his hoof wanting out. He bobbed his head up and down, neighing. He didn't mind being trailer but he certainly didn't like it. Being in a trailer for so long makes him antsy.

Jen

Jen lead her horse,Ice,out into the alleyway, sighing in content as she listened to the sound of her horse's hooves clicking on the floor. This was her favorite place in the world.Even though the barn was almost always busy, she felt like she was alone.Just her and her horse. That was the way she liked it to be.They had such a bond, such a relationship, that it seemed like nobody else mattered or even existed when they were together.Even though Ice had his quirks like every horse, especially a young horse,he was perfect to Jen.Plus, whenever he was having an "off" day,he always posed a challenge and was pretty fun to work with.Right now, though,he was being rather calm, which Jen was definitely happy for.The new boarder was coming today and everybody had been scrambling to make sure that everything was perfect. To her,it was senseless. The place was already amazing and didn't need a thing changed. The waiting list to board there proved it.Yet,every staff member spent their time sprucing up the place and even she and her mom had to chip in.It would be nice to have the stable back to it's normal, not rushed busyness.

As Jen started to brush Ice's bay coat down, her friend Lanna, who had been boarding there for a few years and often accompanied her in open lessons, came over to her and leaned against the tack trunk to Ice's left. With her arms crossed over her chest and her slightly messed up blonde hair falling in her face a bit,she asked,"Ready for the newbie?I hear she's around our age." All Jen did was shrug and lift Ice's short cut black mane up to get every part of his neck brushed down.Lanna chuckled and shook her head a bit to move her hair away."The indoor is all raked.Made for a nice riding surface," she added to change the subject since she knew Jen wasn't looking forward to the new girl coming. It was more that the whole stable had to be made "perfect" just for one person. There shouldn't be any special treatment just because the person is new.Lanna didn't seem to mind, but she knew that was the way Jen thought."Maybe she'll be a fun riding partner," she added before walking to the open barn door that lead out into the immensely stunning driveway."They're here!" She called back to Jen,not caring that half of the people in the nearby area gave her dirty looks.Jen sighed and set the brush down, patting Ice's croup as she walked to the door to take a look herself."Get a look at that," she said in a mumble as she leaned against the door frame."Is it any different from any other boarder here?" Lanna questioned, not seeing the big deal in the trailer that Jen was scowling at."No,but how are the other boarders?Snobs.I got lucky with you,but with her?Please...I expect to see her walking out in high heels right about...now," Jen said as she moved and stood straight instead of leaning, trying to catch a glimpse of the girl."Is it because you liked the last boarder?" Lanna asked after a few minutes, remembering Jen's rides with the person who left.Jen shrugged, not wanting to admit that that was a big reason why she wasn't to keen on the new boarder."Just give her a chance," Lanna said as she gently, playfully punched Jen's shoulder."Fine," Jen said, huffing as she started towards the trailer. Her mother was heading from the large house they called home to meet the new boarder as well.

(Sorry it's huge xD .I tend to write like this in the beginning and I can keep it up if I'm given enough.)

(Nah, it's cool, I'm the same way!)

Andriana

Unlocking the side ramp before placing it on the ground, Andriana walked up the ramp to see her best friend. "Hey Cobolt." Opening the bar gate, she untied the lead rope and led out of the trailer. Cobolt held his head up high taking in the new scents. Andriana released the lead rope as she unbuckled the traveling blanket and the boots. Lucas came around the truck, took the tack and placed them in the trailer. A lady walked up to her dad and started talking to him. Andriana didn't pay attention. Cobolt must have caught scent of the other horses for he gave out a very loud neigh before he started prancing. "Easy, Cobolt. I know, it's a new place, new smells. But we both have to behave." Running her hand down his neck before checking his long legs, making sure he didn't sprain or injured any muscles or bones. Once everything seemed normal, Andriana walked back up to his head taking a hold of the lead rope. She led him over to her dad. Lucas looked over at his daughter and smiled. "This is my daughter, Andriana. Andriana, say hello." She looked over at the lady with a small smile. "Hi." She gave a tiny wave before looking down at her tall boots that had some bits and pieces of dirt. Cobolt turned his head with his ears perked up and noticed a girl walking up to them, that wasn't his girl.

(Oh,good!I've scared some partners with my overly long opening posts...hahaha!It's kind of funny :P .I posted a four paragraph opener in one on another site and I think the person died for a moment xD .It was a chunky post, too :P .)

Jen

Jen pushed some of her hair behind her ear as she came about six feet away from the group of chattering horse people. She couldn't help but stare at the beautiful dapple grey horse standing by who she suspected was the new girl.No matter how she felt towards the new humans, she always loved seeing the new horses.Especially when they were warmbloods like this one.Yeah, she had bugged her mom to get info about the new rider since, she had to admit,at first she was a bit excited.Until she found out who was leaving. The who was leaving news always came after the who was coming news. Her mother was a tall woman with long auburn red hair and Jen always found herself smiling when she seen her done up like she was there. She had her riding pants on and a green and pink polo with the Triple K logo over the left side of the chest section. Her hair was left down. She definitely looked official and Jen liked it.Finally, she stopped beside her mom, putting a hand on her left hip and letting the other one hang."These the new boarders?" She asked as she looked up at her mom,not saying hello just yet.Katrina gave her daughter a sweet smile that nobody who wasn't familiar with her would take as something other than a warm and welcoming smile, but Jen knew what it meant.'Be polite or I'll kill you' in her mother's way.Jen returned the smile with one of her own that meant 'okay'."Yes,it's the Welkeeses," she answered, the smile still there.Jen mentally sighed, unable to figure out why her mother was so worried about how she would be.So they would lose a boarder, big whoop! There's over a hundred names waiting to board there. They'd get the money some other way.Although, she was pretty sure that somebody like this girl's father, the man standing in front of Katrina, could ruin their name if he wanted to.So,Jen looked from the girl to the man and said,"Hello,it's wonderful to have you here."

After that,Katrina relaxed and went on to mention how things worked around the barn to the new girl's father.Jen looked towards the girl, feeling awkward for a long time. Then, with a glance at the horse, she said."He's gorgeous. What's his name?" Jen asked, trying to sound normal since her voice sounded nearly sickening to her when she greeted them. However, since her mother relaxed, she was sure it didn't sound that way to anyone else. She didn't need to ask for the horse's name, either. She already knew from her mother's explanation of the new boarder around the dinner table the night they found out.Although, she figured it would be a courtesy and wouldn't make her seem obsessive or weird. As she waited for a response, she wondered what Lanna was thinking. That girl could tell how Jen was feeling from a hundred miles away, they had just became that friendly with each other.

( xD I've done that once and the person never replied back. So now, I do one somewhat big paragraph)

Andriana

Looking over at the girl, she smiled lightly. "His name is Cobolt." As if to agree, Cobolt bobbed his head up and down, pawing the ground. Taking in more of the smells, he once again neighed. Once her dad was done talking to the owner, Lucas turned to her. "Okay dear, let's get Cobolt in his stall and your tack in the tack room so I can get going." The word "going" put a frown on her face. Nodding, "Yeah, of course." Andriana felt abandoned. Her dad gave her a look she knew all too well, 'Don't you dare...' Turning her gaze to Cobolt, she felt like crying but she never break down in front of people she didn't know. Cobolt sensed something was wrong so he nudged Andriana's face nickering. "Well boy, ready for a new start?" She whispered to him staring eye to eye with Cobolt. It was like he actually understood what she was saying. Sighing lightly, Andriana turned to the girl. "What stall is Cobolt in?" She asked softly. She decided that once Cobolt was in his stall and all her tack was in the tack room, her and Cobolt would go to the outdoor arena and practice some jumping or maybe even Dressage. All depends on how they both feel.

(Post a novella with me if you want :P .I love chunky responses :P .)

Jen

Jen gave a smile at the sound of the horse's name.Maybe she was going overboard. The girl seemed normal for the most part.Perhaps she was friendly. It wouldn't be the first time that Jen was wrong on a person. She'd rather be wrong and the girl be nice than be right and the girl be a jerk."Nice," she answered shortly, but not a nasty shortly. Her tone was light and casual and a smile was still on her face,so if the girl took it as nasty then she was going overboard deciphering her. When she noticed a slight change in the girl's expression,Jen raised an eyebrow.I wonder what's going on? She thought as she glanced at the man,but she knew better than to ask or even begin to butt into their personal situation. She didn't know this girl and the same was for that girl with her.It would just be inappropriate and wrong.Plus,it'd be a way for her to get burnt. She'd be grounded for life if her mom found out she overstepped her bounds.Although, she couldn't get in trouble for being curios and thinking about it.Not much missed Jen's eyes or mind and there wasn't many situations she couldn't figure out.It made her a good rider and an overly curious person in general.

When the girl asked Jen where Cobolt's stall was,she quickly thought about where the last person was, forgetting the stall number her mom had told her just this morning."I can show you," she answered after a moment. It was in the main barn, the most "prestigious" barn they had.Number 20,the final stall in the back on the left.Ice's stall was number 13,so it wasn't too far from the newbie.Jen's mom gave a nod afterwards and said something about the tack to Mr. Welkees."Come on," Jen told the girl as she motioned with her hand for her to follow her. After that, she started towards the barn, rolling her eyes as she seen Lanna smirking at her.It didn't take her long to make it to the barn and Lanna left to see her horse and to give them time alone, which Jen was sort of appreciative of.She knew she would have toyed with her judging by how Lanna was before."Let me just move my horse," she told the girl without looking back. With a pat to Ice's neck, she unhooked him from the cross ties and led him back into his stall."Just for a moment," she whispered to him before walking out and shutting the door.

Andriana

Following the girl to the barn, her eyes glanced around at the place. It seemed pretty nice. Maybe just maybe it would work out. While she was physically there, her mind had traveled far away. How could her dad just up and leave her like this? Yeah, she understood that eventing was important to him but to leave his own daughter...His own flesh and blood. That she didn't understand. Reaching the stall number 20, Andriana opened the door, led him in and unhooked the lead rope before walking out and closing the door. She watched as Cobolt did circles around his new stall. Again, he was bobbing his head neighing. Andriana smiled at him. "Being talkative once again, huh?" She whispered. She knew what he was feeling. Nervous, excited and very antsy.

Turning to the girl, she tried to be polite. "I'm Andriana, what's your name?" Her voice was soft as before. Then she remembered to ask the question she wanted to know. "What times is the arenas available?" Andriana wanted to know so she didn't interrupt any lessons that went on. She loved practicing. It was the one thing that took her mind off her problems. Once she had her tack from the trailer, she didn't want to see her father leave so she knew she had to be busy during that time which would be no problem for her. Andriana could groom Cobolt. Just looking at him, he could use a light brushing out. His coat was a little messy from the travels. But that was normal for him. Cobolt always gets messy while traveling, even if it was just down the road. He would somehow find a way to get dirty. Even his tail and mane was messed up. Andriana has a feeling that he could give her a challenge once they get out into an arena. Since it was the first day here at the stable, Andriana was her usual self. Quiet, shy and polite. Once she got to know someone around here, she'd probably open up and be like she usually is. Bubbly and talkative just like Cobolt. Cobolt had went over to the bars where the girl was. Probably looking for a treat.

Jen

Jen nodded towards the stall when they reached it.Fresh bedding had been placed just that morning and the bucket was filled with water. That was the same as every other time a new boarder came in.It could never be said that Triple K didn't offer quality to the ends of the earth.Quality was their mark of excellence. It was that in their breeding and it was that in their boarding. If they didn't have quality, what would they have?An average horse or an average boarding operation. Her parents didn't want average. They wanted excellent. That was exactly what the appearance of the barn alone put off.The thought of that put a smile on Jen's face as she leaned against a nearby tack box.The boxes were out in front of the stall, next to the door, and placed horizontally against the cherry wood of the stall. They were for any extra tack items, like leg raps, bell boots, things like that.Jen kept her grooming equipment in hers, too. Not everybody did and there was a section underneath the saddle holder in the tack room for each boarder's grooming caddy,Jen just preferred to have the grooming tools handy. Her mind went to Ice.He was probably confused as to what was going on.She hadn't even finished taking the hard brush to him, which was step number one of her grooming routine.

When the girl,Andriana, asked for her name,Jen's eyes widened and she scratched the back of her head awkwardly. She blushed just slightly n embarrassment. How could she forget something like that?"Whoops, sorry.I'm Jen," she answered, bringing her hand back to her side afterwards. At the next question, she thought of the schedule, which was on a whiteboard by the main indoor arena."Um...I don't think anything's going on until later today in any of the arenas.Just some riders practicing, but we're used to riding with partners here. What arena would you ride in?I'm going to school my horse over jumps,if you'd want a partner.I know how it can be riding a horse after a trip," she answered then offered. It wasn't like she particularly wanted to ride with the new girl when she wasn't sure how she was,but so far she figured she wasn't too bad.Maybe she could use a little support. It could be hard going to a new barn and she didn't want Andriana to feel left out or unwanted...even if Jen preferred to have her old friend back.

Andriana

Nodding, she smiled. "Yeah, I'd like that, thanks." Seeing her father walk through the barn towards them, she immediately tensed up. Her eyes trained on him. "Andriana, here's your small trunk. All your tack is in the tack room. Seeing how you are all settled in and everything, I really must get going." He kissed her forehead, gave a slight hug and left. "Like that is nothing new." Not realizing she said that out loud, she had opened the trunk on the floor, Andriana neatly organized everything from her own trunk to the new one. Then she turned to Jen. "I'd ride in the outdoor arena. Cobolt usually works better in the wide open fresh air." Grabbing the lead rope, she opened the stall door, leads him out and hooks him up to the cross ties.

Quickly walking over to the tack room, Andriana grabs her english saddle along with the pad and bridle then walks out of the room and over to Cobolt. Placing the pad and saddle on the door so it was straddling it, Andriana leans down to the trunk and picks up the hard brush. Brushing the main area on Cobolt's back, girth area and chest, then setting that down and picking up the comb so she could run that through his mane and tail including his forelock. Placing the comb back in the caddy, Andriana walks over to the door, takes the pad and saddle and gently sets the pad on Cobolt's back first, getting it in the right spot then the saddle over the pad. Kneeling down, she grabs the girth and buckles it. Taking the english breast collar, buckling that to the saddle and then the girth. Next, she took the bell boots out and strapped them on. Last thing to do was the bridle. Cobolt usually likes to give trouble on this part. But this time he didn't. He lowered his head and accepted the hard cold bit. Once he was all tacked up, Andriana took her helmet from the trunk. She didn't need a whip and she didn't want one. Stroking his muzzle, she smiled. "Ready to have some fun?" He nickered.

(I'm picturing the outside of the barn like this and the stable aisle like this [except it doesn't show the boxes].What do you think?)

Jen heard footsteps coming towards them and she glanced over her to shoulder to see who owned them. When she seen it was Andriana's father, she wondered what might happen. Her curiosity grew at what the girl said afterwards. At first, she raised an eyebrow, wondering what Andriana meant by that, but she let it drop a moment later, not wanting her to feel uncomfortable."Well,if you want a partner, come find me when you're done," she said casually with a shrug before heading back to her own horse's stall."Hey,boy.Sorry for the interruption," she cooed to him before leading him back out.He shook his head and stomped the ground while she hooked him back in the cross ties, not happy that he was taken out, then put back in,then taken back out again. It might have ruined his willing mood that she hoped he would have had. With a chuckle, she ran her hand down the white blaze on his face and kissed his velvety nose,in which he attempted to nibble on her lips before she pulled away. Then she began to brush him again. She loved when he was clean. His coat shined and his color seemed more bold.Once she had brushed him down and picked his feet, she went to the tack room and selected her around the barn saddle pad,a black based pad with gold crowns that looked exactly like the Triple K crown logo all over it.The pad also had gold piping.Once she had that over her arm,she got her jumping saddle,a black Wintec 500,and took them back to Ice.She put the pad on before sitting the saddle on top.Her bay horse adjusted his position underneath the saddle and snorted his disapproval at the thing being on his back. With a chuckle, she headed back to the tack room to get her other things.

Finally, she lead Ice out of the barn and towards one of the outdoor arenas which had all of the colorful jumps set up,Jen's eyes taking in the familiar sights of horses grazing and horses being lead up and down the driveway for light exercise.Ice snorted and let out a whinny, his head held high and his ears pricked forward, eyes slightly wide as he eagerly took in all of the "excitement".Jen swayed her crop back and forth in the normal motion of her arm as she walked along,a light hold on the black reins."Gonna clear the oxer today?" She asked her horse as she kissed his neck.He always had trouble judging the oxers. They were his worst enemy.Soon enough, she was unlatching the gate to the arena and leading him inside. She checked his girth before using the mounting block to get on.Gathering her reins, she guided him to the rail to begin warming him up.

(This is what her saddle pad looks like- click.Maybe we should post their tack in the sign-up section?Or we could use the OOC chat section for pictures :P .)

(The barn and aisle is very lovely (: And yeah, we can use the OOC section for the pictures.)

Leading Cobolt out of the barn to the arena where Jen went to and over to the mounting box, she climbed on top of him after checking the girth again. Once she sat in the saddle, Cobolt started to prance. Andriana could tell that he wanted to jump. "Easy, we must warm up first." Gathering the reins, clucking her tongue, Cobolt made a perfection transition from a halt to a trot. Making half way around the arena, he started to act up like Andriana figured he would. Being the stubborn boy he is, he took matters in his own hooves. Immediately stopping, he reared halfway snorting. She sighed while staying on. Seeing a small cross rail, Andriana decided to use that as a warm up jump. Kissing at Cobolt, he took off trotting before doing a transition to a canter as they got closer to the cross rail. Cobolt jumped it with inches to spare. Reaching the rail, Andriana slowed him down to a walk letting Cobolt relax before jumping the cross rail again. Analyzing the arena, she spotted a combination of three. Seeing how Cobolt hated those, she figured that would be the first thing to work on. "How about it? The three combination, Cobolt. We're going to work on that." He snorted in a disagreement shaking his head side to side. Spotting Jen's horse, Cobolt rose his head up high and neighed. Andriana smiled shaking her head. "Always the talker..."

(Okay!I'll post them there once I finish my reply!)

Jen glanced over to Andriana when she heard her come in.By this time, she was cantering Ice along the rail, making sure he was stretched and ready to go for when they tackled the jumps. She clucked and put some pressure on the outside rein to keep Ice's attention on his work rather than the new horse and a moment later she half halted him because he picked up his pace too much for her liking."It's another horse, not McClain Ward," she said to him in a chuckle as she continued to have him canter the rail, pulling back the entire time and appearing like she was lifting his front half up because of it."Easy," she kept cooing to him as she rode him around the rail, trying to get him to calm down before they took on a jump. His ears swiveled in every direction and he nickered often, attempting to get the attention of the new horse."Eyes on the game, doofus," she told him with a chuckle.Often times she called him doofus when he started acting social and he always seemed to not notice.By then,he was definitely warmed up,but she wanted him to be a little more relaxed before jumping him over anything.Right then, she was positive he would jump a ground pole if one was out. What a quirky horse he was.She tried to imagine now and then how he'd be if he was a stallion. When Jen officially took ownership of him, they gelding him since she made it clear she wanted him to be a show horse, not a father. That helped his overly thickheadedness, but it didn't help his nuttiness.

Finally,Jen got him to focus on her once again and she gave in and guided him to a cross rail. There was a row of two spaced pretty far apart and she liked to challenge him with farther spaced out jumps. It was hard for him to stay focused,so it was a good exercise for him.As she expected,he over jumped the first one and sped up afterwards."Easy," she cooed as she pulled back on him.He launched over the second cross rail like it was nothing and gave a slight buck, enjoying himself.Jen rode it easily since she was used to him doing that and she laughed a moment later as Ice whinnied back to Cobolt."Friendly things, aren't they?" She called to Andriana as she guided Ice to the rail again and let him practically hand gallop around the outside to get rid of some of his energy.Once he began to go back into a normal canter, she rode him over the second cross rail again with a vertical in mind next.

Andriana smiled. "Very!" Clicking her tongue, Cobolt did a transition from a walk into a canter. Cantering around the arena, she directed him in the direction of the three jump combination. Seeing the first jump, Cobolt perked his ears up. Silently, Andriana prayed to God to let Cobolt have the courage to jump the combination. As she was doing that, it seemed like time had slowed as Cobolt gathered his muscles pushing them off the ground and over the first jump. That jump, Cobolt did perfectly. Taking a few strides, Cobolt gathered his muscles again pushing them off the ground to get over the second jump. Now this was where Cobolt always had trouble with this last jump since he had to take fewer strides than going into the second jump.

Making the jump, Andriana felt like Cobolt had taken one too many strides going into the jump. His back hooves had scrapped the top of the rail making it bounce a little. Looking over her shoulder at the rail, Andriana prayed for it to stay in the cup. But sadly the rail had bounced out and to the ground. Andriana groaned slightly in frustration frowning. "It's okay, boy. We'll get it next time." To get their mind off the combination, she led him over some cross rails then a vertical.

(Sorry I took so long.)

(I'm sorry I took so long!I forgot and was on vacation for Thanksgiving xD .)

Jen slowed Ice back to a trot and worked on her sit trot for a minute, casually glancing over at Adriana since she was curious to how she rode.Everybody had their own style;Jen was more forward with her seat and light overall. That was just the way she rode.It always interested her how others rode and studying the differences in riding styles was always something she found enjoyable.Once the other pair finished their line,Jen asked Ice to pick up a canter again, looking towards a low spread that she would have to take on a turn.Interesting, she thought as she began to count Ice's strides, asking him to pick up the pace a bit to get over the jump clear. However, since it was angled in an odd sort of way, something that Ice hadn't seen a lot of times,he didn't want to try it and stopped right in front of the blue and green striped fence.Jen was sent ahead of his neck, nearly popping off,but by grabbing mane she managed to keep herself off."Seriously,Ice?" She asked with a shake of her head as she sat back in her saddle, turned him around and asked him to pick up a canter the other way to shake off the situation. He shook his head, apparently glad to be going away from the strange looking jump.

However, after a few trips around the outside of the arena,Jen changed directions and took him back towards the jump. The rails stayed up,so she could just try it again. This time, she went at it a tick slower.Even though she knew she needed speed to clear it without a rail knocked, she wanted him to just clear it.Then they could work on cleanly clearing it.As they came within two strides of the fence, she gave him a slight tap on the shoulder with her crop to keep him focused. This time,Ice decided to jump it and, even though he kicked out his back heels in his signature way,he hit the back rail, bringing it to the ground.Even though they didn't clear it,she patted his neck in praise, happy that he had made it over."Atta boy,Ice," she praised.
