today had been a rather productive today for tomoko yoshida. she had woken up early in the morning just as she always does for her shift. she made herself a good protein shake as tonya chattered with her about hospital politics. tomoko never cared much for hospital politics, but tonya said she needed to know so that she knew who the assholes in the hospitals are. it's not like she worked much in the hospital anyway, the main people she worked with are cops and firefighters, not hospital staff. she listened because tonya needed someone to rant to. often times, the doctors and other nurses are assholes and since tonya is a new staff member, all of the workplace assholes descend onto new blood. she also ran an errand for sam, he wanted to get his great-grandfather's glasses appraised so that he could sell them. she disagreed with sam wanting to sell the glasses as they were heirlooms, a last piece of his great-grandfather but who was she talk to him about it?
the shift for a paramedic usually starts in the early morning and goes through the whole night. she usually works for two days before having a one day break to catch up on sleep. her sleep schedule is basically fucked up. she didn't really care though. she's grown used to the work schedule and it'll probably take a long time to even get her normal sleep schedule back on track.
the patient influx hasn't been too heavy, most calls that she gets on are usually for baseline care, in which she usually takes care of patients right in the house and then take them to the hospital. so far, her calls have been relatively normal. her first patient was a parent calling in concern for her child. turns out he had the flu and needed to be taken care of at the hospital, another patient went into anaphylactic shock after ingesting an allergen. the most stressful case she endured today was at an elementary school, a kid was choking on a piece of food and using the heimlich maneuver, the food was dislodged.
the day passed by pretty quickly, and tomoko was reaching her longest shift break. the news was rather intriguing though, there are reports of strange objects falling out of the sky, crash landing in different areas. she supposed it could just be meteors, it's not like aliens exist right? rolling her eyes to herself for her own imagination, she did a quick check around for patients in the triage and checked the clock. perfect timing. she walks into the back room of the hospital, "hey boss. i'm going out for my break", she announces and her boss nods in acknowledgment. she walks out of the hospital, still wearing her uniform. she takes in the cool night air, walking to the gas station to get some snacks for herself. she had quick conversation with the attendant of the gas station before heading back out. she walks back to the hospital and she yawns tiredly. she continues her aimless walk until she stops next to an empty ambulance.
no one was inside. "perfect... I'll just get some sleep in before my break ends.." she murmurs to herself as she gets inside the emergency vehicle. she sits in the passenger seat, shifting herself comfortably so she can sleep inside. she crosses her arms over her chest, immediately falling into a light doze just in case the driver comes in if they were on call.
