Trampling attacks

If a rider of a mount wishes to trample a target, would the attack roll be based on Ride?  Mammoths have a good trample attack and sometimes somebody riding one wants to step on something.

I would make the rider make a Ride check to see if he can control the mount. If he succeeds, he makes the mammoth trample something, using the mammoth's stats for the attack roll.
