I apologise if this thread isn't entirely in the right place since it's basically more of an 'Interest Check for an Interest Check' as I'm trying to gauge people's preferences before I delve deeper into creating a more tangible concept and risk GMing for the first time.
Essentially, I've noticed through reading some new and old-ish threads over the last few days that there's a semi-decent audience here for a Space Opera RP and since that's personally right up my alley and since there seems to be a general lack of ICs for Space Operas, I'm starting to lean towards possibly GMing my first RP.
With that said, my main question really is about scale, which of these would you as a prospective participant in such an RP prefer?
1. Small Scale
Essentially one character (excluding minor 'NPCs') per player. This doesn't necessarily mean the scope of the story itself will be small in nature but I suppose it would end up being a lot more personal.
2. Large Scale
This might be a bit of an odd one since I always thought this is what Nation RP was but based on the threads I've seen here and the more 'game-y' nature of them, I may have misunderstood somewhat. But essentially what I mean for this one is that each player would control a faction or a spacefaring species and of course several characters within that. As an example, the RP could involve some sort of galactic-level threat that forces a coalition to form between multiple species in order to prevent it. This would be less about describing overarching political intrigue or troop movements but to have interesting characters within your species and how they fit into the story. That's not to say you can't have those 'grander' things, it's just that they're absolutely not the focus and would or should happen through a relevant character. I don't know how well I'm explaining this really and I really wish I could link the old RP I was in unfortunately it was on a long-dead forum for which the Wayback Machine doesn't have enough snapshots.
I am of course willing to answer any questions or discuss things further and hopefully if there's enough interest we can get into setting up an actual RP!
