This world fell apart long ago. However, civilized society continues to exist. More or less.

(Only image I didn't make.)

But somewhere along the line, many vicious dictators rose to power. Tyranny manifested itself in different ways. Here, it came in the form of the Autumn Party.

Autumn Party propaganda.

It is YEAR 27. Yep, that basically sums up the date system now, just YEAR 27. They didn't even bother to name this new era.

To clarify things more, it has been 27 years since the eruption of "Milk Mountain," a very large volcano with a very silly name. According to a report from the
KNOWLEDGE SUPERINTENDENCY, humanity's population is only about a quarter of what it once was. Even though you can't trust any of the bastards running the government nowadays, they might not have been lying that time.

Basically, the supervolcanic eruption put tons of soot in the air, covering the sky and blocking out nearly all sunlight. It triggered a volcanic winter, which in turn triggered the apocalyptic famine known as the
Great Starvation. From that point on, the rollercoaster of societal dysfunction and despair began.

Most national governments collapsed, with lawless areas becoming known as the
The Forsaken Lands. Here, society was basically reduced to people killing each other over cans of beans.

However, some countries didn't fall apart, and continued to have functional governments on at least some level. Stocked goods were the only food source for awhile, until the authorities developed alternative ways to feed their populations. This usually meant "underground farms," so people basically started eating mushrooms, algae, bugs, bacterial slime, etc. Any livestock they kept were fed the same things.

Returning to the present.

The volcanic winter ended some time ago. Many things have since changed- some for the better, some for worse. You live in the Continental Bulwark, an oppressive, hegemonic superstate governed by the ruthless Autumn Party. The Bulwark is often at war with the world's remaining foreign states.

The
Presidium is the supreme executive body of the Bulwark government, while the national legislature is known as the Assembly of Jurists. As for the head of government, it's just some guy called "Howard Faulks" who is the current "Presider" of the Bulwark. More emphasis is placed on glorifying the Autumn Party as a whole, rather than the Presider. You don't hear about Faulks much.

The Bulwark is separated into different administrative divisions (provinces) called "Dominions," each headed by a governor. Generally, the coastal dominions in the southeast are wealthier, loyalty is dominant, and policing is more relaxed. The dominions located in the central interior, and around the mountains have greater poverty, and security is tighter due to Syndicate rebel activity. The dominions of the former Cossian territories are the most rebellious, and have mostly been reduced to a war-zone between Bulwark military forces and Splitter rebels.

Conditions for growing crops have since improved. In the Forsaken Lands, there are plenty of communities that grow their own food. In the Bulwark, however, most people still get their food from underground farms, or eat "Simulant Cuisine." It is illegal to own gardens or plant crops in the Bulwark, since the regime wants to maintain a stranglehold on food distribution. The government will often release statements claiming that "surface food" is unhealthy, and causes defects. It's unknown whether these claims are true, but many mutants do exist outside the Bulwark's borders. Despite rumors that the Nourishment Superintendency has ground up dead bodies for use as compost, the Autumn Party has maintained a "War on Cannibalism" for years.

The Amped Zone is a part of the Forsaken Lands, and is the only lawless portion of Wosten. The territory was "amputated" from the Bulwark quite awhile ago. It was due to foreign biowarfare, and heavy irradiation caused by the meltdown of a mega-nuclear power plant, allegedly due to foreign infiltration. The Amped Zone is sealed off from the rest of the country, and is said to be a cesspit of incurable diseases and mutation.

The main ones.

See info about Government Security Forces here.

The Bulwark of Tricosa is a tyrannical hegemony that controls nearly all remaining civilized regions on the Tricosan Continent; mainly the coastal regions of Wosten, Cossia and Hetland. These countries were "united" when Wosten annexed them; Hetland was absorbed using diplomacy, while Cossia was simply invaded.

The Bulwark is controlled by the
Autumn Party, who were able to rise to power in Wosten shortly after the initial crisis. People were looking for "strong leaders" at the time. They won a landslide election, then subsequently shutdown the democratic system and assumed absolute power. At that point, they could basically do whatever the fuck they wanted because the military supported them. Wosten would later form the Bulwark, and the Autumn Party's leadership would carry over.

The Autumn Party messes with people's sense of right and wrong. Many folks have been brainwashed over the years, and now simply view it as
immoral to oppose their rule. Although only the most fanatical loyalists have reached this level, they are growing in numbers. As far as you know, you might all end up as their slaves one day.

Most (though not all) rebel groups who want to take down the entire government are members of the Syndicate. The Syndicate is not a single organization, but a network of sub-factions who share the common goal of overthrowing the Autumn Party, doing away with their leadership, and establishing democratic rule. The Syndicate has become more connected over the years, and is growing in strength.

The Syndicate is kept running by the Council, which is an assembly formed by the most influential rebel leaders of the Syndicate. While all of the Syndicate's sub-faction share a common goal, some use more terrorist tactics than others. The Council has the power to exile sub-factions, and will sometimes do so if they start garnering bad reputation.

The Syndicate is referred to by the government as "traitors," "terrorists," "traitorists," etc.-although normal cops and soldiers have just nicknamed them "Syndies."

The Split Movement is a more of a concept; there is no main leadership at all. Any Cossian separatist group can be categorized as being part of the Split Movement.

Occupied Cossia is the least stable region in the Bulwark, and the Split Movement is mainly responsible. Splitter rebels fight for Cossian independence, often waging open warfare against the occupying Government Security Forces. Splitters simply want the Bulwark to leave Cossia, and couldn't care less about any of the other territories, so they are usually uncooperative with the Syndicate. Some Splitters want to kill all non-Cossians, including Syndicate rebels, who are mostly Wostenian.

Sometimes, Splitter sub-factions fight against each other, since there is no main leadership. The most powerful Splitter groups are the Cossian Wing, the Northern Liberation Front, and the Separation Order.

There are very few Hetish separatists, since Hetland is a more stable, collaborationist country. They formed the Bulwark by willingly cooperating with Wosten, and thus received better treatment.

The Vatzian Commonwealth is the only true external threat to the Bulwark, it seems. They are apparently a shitty dictatorship just like every other government left in existence- at least from what the Autumn Party has told you. Bulwark propaganda likes to bash Vatzia a lot, and they are prone to getting into wars. The only thing worse than the constant air raid drills, are the constant real air raids. Occasionally, Vatzia tries to invade the mainland, although it only happens every once in awhile.
