README: Rules and Setting Synopsis
This Quest is going to be rather reverse of the typical Quest, the options are totally set by the players as if every vote was a write-in, with descriptions of their choices, though some options will have set themes that must be followed according to some minor guidelines. Players can vie for their votes, debating and persuading, and others can second them to give them an added edge. When several votes have been cast for the next action, each option will be assigned a number and a die cast to complete the choice. Each vote for an option gives it an added number, so more votes means more chances to be selected, though there is still an off-chance a minority vote can be chosen. I will then write the result of the selected option and the process begins again.

And so, without further ado, welcome to our descent into Madness. Our character comes from a dark fantasy kingdom of adventurers and magic, they may be anything from a farmer to a noble to a warrior. But that is their past, now we decide their future.

Chapter One: The Long Dark

Cave Of The Dead

Character Details: ???

Status: Healthy

Weapon: ???

Armour: None

Inventory: Torch <Unlit>, Rations <1 Week>

Skills: ???

Magic: ???
The mouth of the cave looms open before you. The ceremony of sacrifice has chosen you. You are the tribute to the darkness, armed only with the clothing on your back, your long-trusted weapon, a satchel holding only a week's rations and a torch. Your duty is to descend into the darkness of the cave and appease the vile creatures within with your blood, or else spill theirs and end the century curse on your land. This ritual is all that keeps them from storming out into the world above, and it has been held more frequently of late, the darkness grows restless and hungers for more souls. You swear that they will not take yours so easily.

[Write-in a simple statement of what our character is and does. Must at least include Gender, Approximate Age, Occupation. Feel free to fill in an appearance and other details as you please. I will add things like their combat and magical capabilities to suit the general character outline in the next post.]

--> Write-in: Jack Stronghammer, one of the land's toughest fighters and a soldier for hire. You were chosen as the best bet for ending this curse. Your trusty weapon is an enchanted maul that drains the life from your opponent with every strike and uses that life energy to heal you slightly. You also know quite a lot of healing magic, and can revive yourself once per battle in addition to healing your own wounds. Your offensive magic is also based around healing, specifically using Life Magic to cause cancerous growths on (and in) your opponent, or to heal their wounds in a manner that makes the injury even worse. You can also induce growth in your opponent's microbiome, causing the bacteria within your opponent to overrun their immune system and cause rapid infection and even decomposition. Your general combat strategy is to outlast your opponent and use your Life Magic to screw with their anatomy in ways that the gods never intended. You are also skilled in dodging enemy strikes. You carry an ordinary steel sword and a heater shield as backup weapons for confined spaces. Approximate age: Mid-20s.

Just asking, do you think this character is decent or is he horribly overspecialized? Or overpowered? Or underpowered?

Just a wee bit overpowered, I'd say. How about we stick to mundane weapons and worry about magic enchantments and cancerous growths later, eh? Our character is a member of this city plagued by the madness, and everyone in the city has their lot drawn, our name just happened to be pulled. Tough fighter and soldier-for-hire, sure, but magical weapons are seldom used so precisely, they are fickle and temperamental things, always with a major drawback to all their benefits. So, let's skip the magic weapons for the time being, hammers and swords are plenty fine.

I was really looking for more detail on the character themself, what they looked like, how they act, what their background is. We'll add abilities and powers on top of that later, let's get them a body and a job first xD

Jermyn Schmetterling (Doesn't flow terribly well, but Jermyn sounds like the Fairfolk x Lovecraftian name I was going for, and I just enjoy Schmetterling, the German word for butterfly, and I like it as a bastard title.). Jermyn is the bastard son of esteemed blacksmith Jack Flynn and an unnamed fae descendant he met at the local tavern. Jermyn came as a surprise to Jack, as the one night stand with his mother was long forgotten in the nine months of his incubation, during which Jack sustained no contact with his mother. Generally outcast in society due to his obvious affiliation with the fae, lesser hated inhabitants than the Old Ones, but still held in great contempt. Though it was bad for business, his father took him under his wing and taught him the articulate arts of smithery. Jermyn was sent away in his mid-teens (15-16) to establish a business in a more free thinking region, where not so many people were mindful of the fae blood running through his veins. In his later teens (around 16-18), Jermyn became involved with a Pagan cult, and now adorns several tattoos that make a stark contrast with his pale, fair skin. Through his various connects as both cultist and skilled blacksmith, Jermyn strode the path of a mercenary for several years (19-24) until the day came when he was chosen for the sacrifice. Fair complected and thinly framed, Jermyn proudly sports light, patchy stubble that took his fae touched body many years to accumulate. Fairly tall and slender, Jermyn is also of fairly muscular build, attributed to his years on the field as a mercenary.

Edit: I think I may not have emphasized that at the age of 18, Jermyn no long participated in cult activities, nor considered himself to be a member. However, he still maintained contact with the cultists.

Attention:

To avoid cluttering the main thread with discussions and chatter, as added two new threads for you to use:

OOC is for general talking about anything, story-related or otherwise, feel free to talk about whatever you want there, jokes, stories, ideas, anything.

On the other hand, the Q&A thread is purely for discussion of the story, feel free to formulate votes there and toss ideas to the other players. Collaborative votes will get bonus points for creativity and teamwork, making the chances of success more likely.

I hope these two new sections will be beneficial and put to good use. If you have any questions about the system, or suggestions for new add-ons you would like to see, tag me in the OOC and let me know.
