cheers for spring; for life; for a growing soul
TIS' THE SEASON.
PLOT.
Like an enchanted village inside a swirling snow globe, the Bavarian village of Frostburg, is truly an unforgettable winter experience. Nestled in the cusp of the Cascade Mountains, Frostburg is the ultimate outdoor playground. Every winter the “Village of Lights” comes alive during the Holidays for a unique winter experience and the opportunity to create a lifetime of memories.
Frostburg hosts four Holiday festivals each year. Things kick off November 29 to December 24 with Christkindlmarkt. Christkindlmarkt is an Annual Bavarian-style Christmas Market for the whole family. The popular and celebrated northwest tradition features delicious and authentic Bavarian foods, handmade arts & crafts and other gifts, and family-friendly, Bavarian- and Christmas-themed entertainment.
Frostburg may actually prove to be the best place to head during the holiday season, as this is a city that takes Christmas to a whole new level. If nothing else, you must at least head to Frostburg to partake in their Christmas Lighting Festival, in which over half a million Christmas lights light up the town, accompanied by themed activities that include sledding, holiday concerts, and cider tastings.
SOME LORE.
The Holly Inn
The Holly Inn was built during the first year of the town being established. It is owned by one of the founding family’s of Frostburg, The Hollies. Tourist and locals alike stay in order to enjoy the cozy atmosphere and beautiful architecture. During the winter months the Inn works with the town in order to give tourists a looks inside their jolly little town.
Rudolf’s Reindeer Farm
Ran by farmer Rudolf Caroll, his wife Winter Caroll and their children. Individuals are given a tour of the farm, throughout they learn about the reindeers before eventually interacting with them in ways like feeding, riding or taking pictures. The farm offers others entertainments like their petting zoo and horses. Visitors are fed during the tour as well.
Edith’s Gingerbread Factory
Owned and ran by the lovely Ms.Edith North and her daughter. A gingerbread cottage is entirely fitting for the faux-Bavarian village of Frostburg, and the Gingerbread Factory fits the bill, right down to the lollipop and candy-cane decorations on the walkway. Inside, you’ll find a big case of oversized, colorfully decorated gingerbread shapes, as well as chocolate chip, peanut butter, snickerdoodle, and other classic cookies. The gingerbread is thick, chewy, and fragrantly spiced, perfect for fall. They have a small breakfast and lunch menu; breakfast is mostly pastries and quiche, while lunch is sandwich wraps and deli salads. The Gingerbread Factory makes custom gingerbread houses that you’d actually want to eat year-round, and mail-orders kits if you’d rather decorate your own. Individuals are able to take a tour of the factory as well as take a class to create their own gingerbread houses.
Santa’s Toy House
One of the more popular attractions of Frostburg, especially with the little ones. Santa’s Toy House is a cute little store located on Mistletoe Avenue. Inside you’ll find traditional Bavarian toys like dolls, train sets, and sleighs. While it’s toys that they sale Santa’s Toy House also sells any Christmas related items. Trees, ornaments, and ugly sweaters are just the tip of the iceberg.
