Nation Building Through Ash and Blood [OOC]

“Even the monasteries weren’t safe. From inside their morgues and crypts the walking dead came pouring. Poor souls that had died from the plagued rising up like rapid animals. Even those who had been buried for years rose from their graves. ‘It was as quick as darkness spreading when the candle goes out,’ my grandfather would always say. ‘There was little time to prepare and nothing you-.”

“Mi lord, scouts report some hordes incoming from the north. Just running aimlessly following the road.” A messenger came into Valdsgrim large tent interrupting his writing.

“Vlad” turned to face his messenger. “Any numbers?”

“They said not sure, rough estimate a few hundred possibly more.”

“Tell Sergeant Imovich to set up a pike palisade in the road with three lines of pikeman behind! Get the riflemen into trees or any position off the ground but within range of the road! Hurry now, go!” The messenger ran from the room.

Vlad rose from his chair and began dressing leather gloves that had brass tipping over the knuckles. He tossed on a leather guard and holstered two pistols. He opened a chest by his bedside and pulled out a long nose carbine then rushed out the room. Men rushed into positions and Vlad rushed to the front of the line where his horse and twelve personal escorts waited. All of them were well equipped. Vlad mounted his horse and nodded to his companions.

Him and his personal entourage were right behind the picket wall. A palisade of long pikes facing outward and rows pikemen waiting behind that. Wood so thick and strong that one alone could take down an elephant. In the distance a choir of howling began to come closer. The last of the riflemen found positions. “Steady boys.” Vlad stayed right behind his pikemen looking down the road anticipating what was to come next. “These monsters may have terrorized our grandparents but now is not their time!” The men cheered as Vlad spoke. The howling got louder. “For we have come back with a vengeance, all of us! Through blood and sacrifice we have overcome these vile demons. Once again they come at us in hordes and once again we will send them back to hell!” The men roared with bravery.

A wave of greyish blue skinned bodies came running into view. Howling and screaming they grew even more angrier at the sight of Vlad’s defensive set up. On sight they picked up their speed and charged. “Prepare for Embrace!” Vlad yelled.

“You hellish creatures!” Vlad fired his carbine at a good distance while yelling. He fired another shot, and another, and another, all striking a skeleton like ghoulish human body. Some looked more healthier than others but all had the same grim looking skin color. Vlad shot his carbine into the air just as the first row of ghouls got within thirty yards. From the trees riflemen began shooting.

Bodies fell in full sprint tripping up others. The first first few rows splintered and instead of crashing like a wave into the pikes they wavered like water droplets. Smashed, and speared ghouls caught amongst each other. They started to climb over one another to get pass the pike palisade. Pikemen thrusted their spears into the the guts of the ghoulish humans. Rotten foul guts spilled out and a sour bloody smell filled the air.

“Steady boys! Steady! Their charge has been broken. Hold fast and keep them from getting over that palisade.” Vlad had an inspiring yet calm tone when he spoke. He spotted a ghoul come running around the left line and took two quick shots at it. It fell lifeless, “Royals I need you to cover our left flank, don’t let any get around us.” His entourage besides one rode to the left flank of the defensive line.

Riflemen continued their baptism of bullets. All of them were veterans, they had gained valuable experience throughout the years fighting in these dense woods. The traffic jam was growing bigger and bigger, the defensive line in the middle of the road had held strong. With nowhere to go the creatures stood around, momentarily waiting as they were picked off. After more minutes passed with no success of moving straight the infected broke into full sprints and started to race around. Like a dime they turned. They were now running underneath the riflemen in trees. Those who had picked a rock or a low branch found themselves catching the attention of any passing nearby ghoul. Several were pulled from their branches and devoured on the forest floor, others were now battling to keep swarms from overtaking their position. Sgt. Imovich was one of the riflemen in the trees. When he saw hordes of the infected running by below he pulled out a revolver and fired it into the air.

“Double Sided flank!” Vlad screamed at the top of his lung when he heard the distinct revolver sound. “Side out! Side out!” Pikemen in the last row turned from the front and formed two crescents covering both sides of the defensive line. Infected ran from the woods and the pikemen were soon in combat. To the left, one of Vlad's escort was over exposed and was pulled off his horse from the charging wave. Vlad analyzed the situation, as the position held Vlad scouted the numbers. He estimated that probably half of the total horde remained, the lines couldn’t hold for that long. With quick thoughts he raced through his side bag and pulled out a black grenade. He pulled the pin and threw it as far out into the trees as possible.

From the tip of the grenade a fluorescent white flame began to flare. The pressure of the flame created a high pitched howl and the noise covered the roar of the ghouls. The grenade made such a ruckus that it even got the attention of the horde and they angrily followed it into the woods. Like an insect to light they turned away from the men and ran towards the light.

“Reform! Reform!” Vlad fired his carbine at a ghoul running away, he had watched it slash one of his pikemen just before he threw the grenade. Here and there amongst the row soldiers laid lifeless. They had torn armor and clothing with broken limbs and smashed faces. “Reform on me! Two layer wall!” The pikemen obeyed Vlads commands.

“Royals! Ready heavy pumps!” Vlad slung his carbine away and then reached onto the back of his horse. Strapped with three belts was a large cannon looking gun. Vlad needed two hands to hold it. “Make sure it’s loaded!” His was.

“Riflemen follow me!” The company didn’t have much time. The grenade would only continue going for a few more minutes. The horde huddled around it. “Let’s go boys!” Vlad kicked the side of his horse and raced towards the clustering horde. His Royals followed from behind. His body filled with adrenaline as he raced closer. “Just a little further now,” He muttered to himself. The horses skillfully weaved in-between the trees while maintaining a quick pace.

The horse stopped, Vlad lifted his heavy pump and -BOOM-. A cannon blast of shrapnel flew towards the horde. The Royals circled up and -BOOM-. Rows upon rows of bodies fell over, those that remained standing had missing limbs. Moments later the grenade died out and seconds after that riflemen had caught up to Vlad and were opening fire. Vlad pulled out his carbine and joined the slaughtered. The horde, or what was left of it, was torn apart. Ghoulish bodies dropped and dropped. After allowing this volley to continue for several minutes Vlad raised his hand. The firing stopped. In the middle of it all bodies on top of bodies laid, mangled and thrashed. Their dark black blood oozed and their greyish blue skin had been ripped and torn from their bodies. After generations of fighting this plague horde humans had finally learned a thing or two.


This RP is set in Europe in the year 1511 AD. The bubonic plague hit Europe in 1346 AD and ever since it has greatly reshaped the world and human history. After it spread to most kingdoms of the globe by 1350 AD evolution added a devilishly new characteristic to it. After one had fallen dead from the infection they came to life later, sometimes seconds after passing and other times days. From graveyards, crypts, and morgues greyish blue ghoulish humans came like wild rabid animals killing, destroying, and slaughtering all in their path. At first they coined the name, “The walking dead” but over time many new terms have arose to call these greyish blue ghoulish humans. “The horde,” “bodies,” “ghouls,” and “the infected,” are now widely used words. Kingdoms held for as long as they could but one by one they fell and order broke into chaos and human stability as a whole collapsed.

Things are different now, 164 years laters humans have finally been able to re-establish boundaries but history and society as a whole has changed. New nation states have emerged from the rubble, most have historic roots to their current regions. With those historic roots are historic grievances that some new neighbors now share. With hordes still lingering in large pockets throughout Europe the risk of a re-infestation is possible, hopefully new European peace and order can be maintained.

Technology is a bit different than it would be in normal human history. There is a renaissance style lingering in the air and the world is undergoing a revolutionary change with the primitive introduction of steam/dieselpunk technology. The fight against the hordes have helped push human research expanding the fields of medicine, weaponry, construction, machinery, and sanitation. Fire arms have become much more efficient and tactics have been constructed around fighting off hordes. Carbines, muskets, cannons, all sorts of new steam/dieselpunk weaponry is being introduced to Europe. Pikemen have also proved their worth and most militaries field vast amount of pikemen companies. Free trade exists universally for the time being and the Catholic Church continues to try and re-establish their influence over the emerging nation states.

As a player your goal is to lead your nation state through the trials and tribulations that is post infestation 1511 Europe. Events will occur throughout the game and all together player movements will decide how the game advances. Turns will consist of player moves, interactions, nation growth/development, trading and will happen after each player has time to respond. (This will be modified if a player takes too long.) Personal interaction through pm’s will occur as nations conduct diplomacy with one another and event NPC actions with me (GM). Results, big events, and conflicts will be played out on the main forum as the game advances. I want to shape this RP to consist of diplomacy, war, strategy, nation building, and character building. Players will be able to design and shape a main leader type character as well as create supporting characters for their kingdom throughout the game. Ultimately I want this RP to be one of fun and creativity as each player freely leads their nation state, navigating the challenges of a monster filled Europe and along the way using strategy and role-playing to create lore and excitement.

The plague has taken on a new evolutionary character trait and for the last 164 years it has been mutating anyone infected. No longer human ghoulish like beasts roam the world in hordes. Some areas still remain infested and everyday the hordes continue to grow and push back at the borders humans have fought hard to establish. These creatures act like rabid animals and attack anything other than their own kind on sight. They range in size and sometimes they carry light weaponry with them that they use to blindly thrash and stab with. For now evolution hasn’t added any more characteristics to them, hopefully it will stay this way.

Playable factions.
Every faction has different characteristics with possible strengths and weaknesses. I did not want to add stats because I don’t want creativity and the lore of the game to be limited. Throughout the game stats will be included as the game advances. Also the info provided here for each faction is just starting info. Throughout the game strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics of each faction is subject to change as the game advances based off players movements. Not all info with each faction is included here. These are just short description given to all players so they have an idea of each faction. As the game advances borders will change and the map will be updated.

Black Zones
The dark territories are the “black zones.” The infected still conjugate and roam widely in these territories and it is rare to find any human life here. Towns and cities are where the biggest hordes are. These dark territories are able to be taken back by players. The territories that have color but a white dot on them are NPC states free to influence, trade, and completely interact with. The map will change as the game advances depending on player moves.

B: Britannia - RESERVED

These united people have taken to the northern parts of the Great Isle and Ireland. Finally after decades of struggle, the infection has been contained to the south of Birmingham. Birmingham proves to remain a stronghold for the ghouls. No one is quiet sure how London is. Britannia has a veteran and well equipped army from years of driving back the hordes. Britannia is also once again building up her navy. Bungharrow, the nearby faction made up of coastal living sea people, has declared their loyalty to Britannia. After seeing Britannia push back the horde to Birmingham they have willingly acknowledge that Britannia is the sole protector of the isles and have freely become a vassalage committing themselves to sea life and coastal defending. They are mostly rural people with local chiefs ruling over their fishing villages and sea ports. They prove to be great merchants for Britannia and have started to bring in valuable material from foreign ports. Militarily they are weak and are only capable of defending themselves and nearby coastal regions. The younger generations of Bungharrow have a desire to be fully annexed by Britannia while the older generations, mainly the chiefdoms, continue to want some kind of autonomy.

BE: Baltic Erebus

United people from the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The infected took their time with the great Russian valleys giving the Baltics the ability to construct intricate defensive barriers. Their army is small yet well equipped and are expert defense men. The Baltic Erebus also has a series of strong forts with artillery pieces that protect their borders and boundaries.

D: Daneland

Danes who have been pushed off the mainland and onto isles and coast land. With the sea protecting them they finally have a secure border from the mainland hordes. To the north in the Scandinavians the Danes have an adequate port in what used to be southern Sweden and have made some hedge way north into some very fertile springtime farmlands. The infected up here in “The Artic” don’t do so well in the bitter winter conditions.

F: Finnish Enclave - RESERVED

These people have long been keeping the horde at bay by using natural elements and well geographically placed forts. In the winter the infected are easy targets for the ever growing and constantly improving Finnish army. The Finnish army is known for having the best marksmen with all Finnish boys ordered to join public funded hunting clubs at age six. Finland was one of the few countries in Europe to hold its capital and never lose it to the infection. Due to this Finland has been able to stand strong throughout the decades acting as an enclave of hope in Scandinavia. With natural barriers and expert marksman the Finnish Enclave has held the horde at bay. St. Petersberg along the southern borders of the Finnish Enclave acts as a formidable fortress and everyday hordes try to pass but everyday the fortress drives them back.

G: Germanic Union

The united people of Germania, “The Center of Europe.” These people have lost much to the plague and everything that followed it. They struggled with the infected every since it all started one-hundred and eleven years ago. To the north they have finally finished their northern border protecting them against the onslaught that were the hordes of northern-central Europe. The ones that chased the Danes off in fact. To the south are wavering and growing factions with some infected zones still pocketed with the risk of regrowing. The Germanic Union has been able to maintain a healthy and growing population for the last thirty years. It’s army is sizable, equipped, and veterans of constant border conflicts.


H: Hungarian Nobles - RESERVED

It started when nobles of the land used their wealth to stock up, improve, and secure huge estates with personal entourages to avoid sickness. After that they stayed for years when the infected emerged. As the situation grew the nobles made strategic moves, taking back center points of weapons production and farm lands. They came to innovate the way carts worked and are currently producing the first ever mobile light vehicles. The Hungarian Nobles united once the capital of the old kingdom had been taken. From there they have risen to become a power in the region. To the south are smaller states of Serbia and Greco-Macedonia. Unfortunately for the Hungarian Nobles neither of these two are friendly to Hungarian power.

I: Iberia

A diverse group of united people out of the old Spanish, Portuguese, and Moorish kingdoms. With a great cavalry of terrain flexble riders the Iberians have been on the offensive driving out infected hordes. Madrid, the old great city, is now just miles away from the Iberia but all offensives into the city have proven futile as the horde remains strong in that part. They have also resumed their explorations of the world with Vasco da Gama being the first to re-explore waters in over a hundred years.


N: Normandy - RESERVED

The Normans have seen their fare share of conflict and struggle. After stopping the onslaught of the horde the Normans have been able to claim and secure some north-western European coastline. The Normans have friendly neighbors to the east but infected neighbors just north-east of them. With fighting being constant the Normans have managed to develop expert defensive and counter-offensive tactics. After years of fighting back the horde they are now just a few miles from Paris. Paris still remains an infestation of ghouls.

U: Union of Toulouse

The Union of Toulouse has managed to expel infested ghouls and secure the south of France. With Toulouse as their capital the union is on a cultural and technological rise. To the south hordes have been pushed behind the mountains range but to the north hordes still control vast fields and cities of territory. Due to decades of fighting on the open fields of southern France, Toulouse has a vast and skilled cavalry.

S: Switzerland

Lucky the mountains kept the infected at bay and for decades the Swiss have been holding the central of Europe. With natural defensive barriers and skilled Swiss pikemen Switzerland has had the luxury of living with secured borders. At the center of connecting kingdoms Switzerland also enjoys commercial success. Although they have a smaller sized military and population Switzerland is well able to take care of themselves in this chaotic Europe.

M: Milan

Milan has gone through many struggles over the last hundred years but finally they have been able to carve out a piece of northern Italy. With Venice to the east agreeing to become a vassalage Milan is on the rise. Venetian Kingdom, the state to the east of Milan, has declared loyalty to Milan acting as a vassalage. Due to its proximity to the old holy city of Rome, Milan has been chosen by the Catholic Church to be the new protector of God’s holy kingdom In return the holy church grants them absolute favoritism, for now that is. The Catholic Church operates outside of Milan control and within the great capital of Venice. The city Venice itself is like a papal state but the rest of the kingdom as a whole serves as a vassalage to Milan. With a decent sized army and support from both Venice and the Catholic Church Milan is looking to continue their growth and hopefully one day retake all of Italy from the horde. Between them and The Kingdom of Sicily there is an undeclared race to Rome.

SI: The Kingdom of Sicily

For years Sicily fought hard to hold back the horde from invading the main island of Sicily. Finally after much research The Kingdom of Sicily has been able to perfect artillery tactics. With some of Europe's best artillery pieces of artillery commanders the Kingdom of Sicily has been able to blast away the horde without even coming within contact. Over the last few years they have been able to push their way back onto mainland Italy and reclaim the southern tip. Between them and Milan there is an undeclared race to Rome.


P: The Polish Commonwealth - RESERVED

The Polish Commonwealth used to be several independent factions before uniting under one banner. Once Warsaw was finally liberated from the horde the Polish people saw that the brightest future was a united one. With many farmlands the Polish population is well supported and on the rise. While their army remains somewhat primitive with less advance firearms and tactics they have plentiful numbers, horses, and resources to hopefully field a more advanced military someday.

S: Sweden

After decades of being pushed back from the horde the people of Sweden have finally been able to stop the ghoulish advance. With modernized artillery pieces and with improve tactics the Swedish army has halted the horde. Thankfully Sweden was one of the few European countries to not lose its capital and Stockholm remains a center of life and industry. The help from cold weather has also lowered the numbers of the infected and they appear to not do so well in the arctic cold. With a growing number of volunteers eager to retake their homeland the Swedish military is on the rise. Another thing Sweden has is a modernized navy that has been assisting with coastal assaults against the horde. If things continue going as if Sweden will soon be able to reclaim much of her lost territory.

NOR: Norway

When Olso and the southern coasts of Norway fell to the horde most of Norway's populated areas did as well. As peoples fled north closer to the arctic they found the weather extremely inhospitable. Due to this the Norwegians have had to struggle with many things resulting in one of the lowest populations and smallest militaries in all of Europe. Yet with that those who now make up the population of Norway are strong and experience survivalists. They live off the land by hunting and fishing and are experts at crafting. Another thing Norway has are it’s mines. Copper, iron, and other important minerals are abundant in Norway. With that Norway has been undergoing a revolution of machinery and firearms. Although it fields one of the smallest armies in Europe, Norway may very soon field one of the most technologically advanced. With a small navy Norway also hopes to retake to the seas very soon.

R: Russia

The Russian people know the essence of struggling. First the Mongols came and then with the Mongols came the plague. The bitter struggle has made the Russian people defiant to death. With Moscow finally being retaken the industry of Russia is coming back to life. Although for now they have a very primitive and ill-supplied army. The horde has shown little interest in re-taking Moscow so hopefully Russia will be able to supply her army that is in need of material. On the bright side Russia has the largest population in all of Europe with the biggest army and a good access to much needed natural resources.

O: The Ottomans

The Ottomans were the kingdom to lose most of its territory from the horde. Once stretching from India to Morocco the Ottomans now only control a small amount of their former empire. With discipline and skill the Ottoman army has officially halted the advance of the infected. The Ottomans have one of the most skilled military in Europe with it’s troops fighting fanatically. The Ottomans have also been enjoying a time of technological advancements and are also beginning to field some primitive motorized vehicles. The Ottomans are a Muslim majority nation which makes them naturally disliked by most European states. While the horde has made every nation a common ally historical grievances between the Ottomans and their European counterparts remain. The Iberians, with their diverse mix of moors, seem to currently be the only real friends the Ottomans have in Europe.

Dortmond - A state between the Germanic Union and Normandy
Austrian Royals - A state between the Germanic Union, Switzerland, and Hungarian Nobles.
Serbia - A state south of the Hungarian Nobles.
Greco-Macedonians - A state south of the Hungarian Nobles and Serbia.
Wallonia- A state east of the Hungarian Nobles.
The Bulgars - A state cut off from any other nation in Bulgaria/Romania.
Moldavia- A state in Moldova.
Ukrainian Princes- A state in Ukraine south of Russia.
Asiatic Mongols- A state east of Russia
The Kingdom of Grozny- A state to the east of the Ottomans.
Palestine- A state in Palestine.
Baghdad- A state in Iraq along the Tigris and Euphrates river.

Vladimir Imovich, “Vlad”, and his company came marching through the dense forest road and into a clearing. The clearing opened up into a wide valley that stretched far and wide tucked away between rolling hills. His men had been marching for quite a while and after leaving the forest they were permitted time to rest.


“The burning party should be catching up with us shortly sir.” One of Vladimirs' sergeant spoke with him. He had lost two in the skirmish earlier as well as a little below three dozen men. “If scout reports are correct that was the last of the swarm that came into our borders earlier this week.”


“Good, good.” Vlad took a deep breathe from a top of his horse. “Take two of my Royals and ride ahead to the capital. Tell King Igor of the news. Also send word to the border towers to dim their fires tonight and light the decoy beacons. Let’s see if we can draw any loose straggles out.”


“Yes sir,” the sergeant was soon off.


Vlad had spent years protecting the borders of Wallonia. Almost two decades to be precise. With tactical developments of hidden posts, fortified barricades, and strategic forts the borders of Wallonia were and would continue to be well protected. Whenever a horde did wander through Vlad and his company of brave defenders showed up to put an end to their advance. Wallonians took pride in their defense of their homeland and throughout the years they had become experts at it.


To the west rumors has spread of the growth of the Hungarian Nobles. Wallonia has never been keen of these people. Now with their borders practically touching King Igor knew that it was now more important than ever to staunchly defend their boundaries. Luckily he had Vlad and his skilled company of leaders and soldiers to do that. Vlad knew this. While his men rested underneath trees and by fresh flowing streams he remained on his horse, with a deep stare he gazed off into the woods towards the nobles many miles away.

It was a cold autumns day in Venice. There was a light wind that rustled the that trees were starting to change colors. Clouds circled in the sky above and the sun was about to get blocked out. One by one lifeless pale bodies were being carried by monks and thrown into a deep ditch. From a cathedral near the hole stood a bishop on a balcony, he calmed watched the scene. He was the head of the cathedral here in Venice and behind tall stone walls in the cathedrals’ yard monks were busy working. In pairs they carried bodies to the hole before dropping them to the base below.


“How many did they count again?” The Bishop spoke to another monk inside the chamber. The monk was at a desk writing. “One hundred and fifty-seven.”


“Just from last night?”


“Mmhm.” The monk responded without lifting his head, he was busy in his books.


The Bishop nodded and then turned back to the scene. Monks were now dropping the last of the bodies. After filling the rest of the ditch with dry hay and tinder they placed a torch on it setting it all ablaze. Fires flew into the sky and loud crackling could be heard. This would definitely be the last fire for the day.

Starting technology will consist of weapons from the 18th century. This list is a good reference. No weapons from outside of Europe or Ottoman regions. No american made weapons in this RP. Artillery weapons will also be taken from the 18th century. Ship technology will be taken from 1600-1650.

Steam-powered advancements
Be advised, at the start of the game this research is rather new. Not many nations will start with companies already modernly equip and most will need to produce arms to equip their army. Access to materials, resources, and production power will also be factors on how well one nation can produce this type of weaponry.
Muskets can be fitted with steam-powered fire mechanisms giving them more power, range, and accuracy. Reload time has also been reduced slightly since the guns needs less gunpowder to fire.

Steam reloading chambers and cylinders have been added to carbines and revolvers giving them quicker reload time, better accuracy, longer rounds, and more firepower. Artillery has no steam-powered advancements yet.

Hand cannons, like the one Vlad used, and other shotgun/heavy shooters prototypes are also new technology when the game begins.

Factories are growing more in popularity as the use of steam engines spreads. Technology on a industry level has benefited the most from steam powered advancements. What used to take workshops months to do only takes factories weeks. Thankfully with these new steam powered factories armaments can be produced at a much more rapid pace. Throughout the game more and more steam-powered technology will be introduced universally.

At the start of the game two nations start with primitive steam motor vehicles. Those two nations are The Hungarian Nobles, and The Ottomans. Steam driven carriages. They still face many problems with these vehicles as the often break down but for now when teamed with horses they seem efficient. The Hungarian Nobles and Ottomans will not have many at the start of the game.

IC Leader Name: Charles VIII the Affable of House Valois

Leader description/bio: Charles VIII is an ambitious man who seeks to not only reclaim what is the rightful land of the Kingdom of France, but also to expand its natural borders to include Brittany and perhaps with the help of God, Italy as well. However, his most striking feature is his sheer friendliness. Even as a child, his own tutors and parents were concerned of his amiable nature and that he was at times too kind to be a strong King. While that may partially be true, his pleasant disposition is often leveraged to make strong, beneficial diplomatic deals to further the interests of the Crown. Thus, so far, his kindness has been an asset, but surely there may be a day where it will be tested and his pleasant disposition will no longer be the best for his Kingdom or people. Regardless, people know that if they have the King among their friends, then they have at least one true friend among them.

Kingdom: Kingdom of France (Normandy)

Historical background: House Valois is the royal family of what was formerly the Kingdom of France. However, with the arrival of the zombies, much of the Royal Family's holdings were lost to either the undead or to plotting noblemen. Regardless, with the blessings of God, House Valois managed to establish a stronghold in its holdings of the Duchy of Normandy, which they had taken just a few decades before the arrival of the undead. The Duchy of Normandy was historically owned by the King of France Charles III, but was given to the Norse Viking Rollo in exchange for loyalty and protection of the region in the 900s. The Norse vikings that settled the region became well known for their martial abilities and the Knights that were born from them were well known throughout the world as some of the best. This martial tradition carried on through the centuries and allowed the Kingdom of France to fight back the undead using defensive strategies and swift counter-offensive operations to take advantage of weaknesses in the enemy formations.

Leader: The young Henry VIII, a charismatic, educated, and extravagant ruler, has ascended to the throne only recently, but has his eyes set upon dying in London instead of Dublin.

Kingdom: Britannia.

Historical background: The Black Death, and the later hordes of ghouls that followed, were initially effectively dealt with by the lords and ladies of the Kingdom of Britannia comparatively to the rest of the European continent. The country's infamous longbowmen and competent administration held collapse at bay for years until a series of peasant rebellions in an attempt to put an end to their serfdom destabilized the home isles. Losing city after city by the day, the royal family fled to Ireland as the slaughter in England, Wales, and Scotland, intensified. Decades later on a road paved predominantly with English blood, much of her rightful holdings have been reclaimed. Rather than pressing onwards to Birmingham and London, it was elected to wait the ghouls out so that there may be time to rebuild what was lost and to replenish depleted armies. During this period, the churches split from papal authority, serfdom was abolished in favor of a freeholder system, and gunpowder and naval technology was quickly revolutionized.

IC ruler name: Józef Franciszek Jagiellon (Yes, Polish names are hard to pronounce, deal with it. You can change Józef to Joseph for the sake of simplicity if you want. Don't complain, I could have chosen something that is actually difficult to pronounce, just for fun.)

Leader description: His past was rather mundane, at least by standards of postapocalyptic medieval king, as Józef manager to inherit the throne without much trouble, and only three plots to overthrow him. Likewise, there isn't much to say about his reign so far. Józef is strong and authoritarian ruler. He keeps a tight grip on nobles within his realm, while seemingly giving his subjects much power and ruling in a constitutional monarchy. He is rather poor military commander on the field, and prefers to command troops on a grander scale, in safety of his war planning room in Warsaw.

Kingdom: Polish Commonwealth

Historical background: In the initial plague, Poland has managed to get away with little casualties. Sure, people were getting sick, but this was nowhere near pandemic levels everywhere else. As such, when ghouls started popping up, the ones that appeared in core Poland were quickly dealt with. Despite that however, borders of the realm have shrunk somewhat, and Lithuania, earlier part of personal union (two countries ruled by the same monarch), was much more devastated than Poland, lost most of its territory and broke off from the union. After securing what centre of the country, Polish monarchs set off to reclaim some lands from the hands of ghouls. This was largely successful, and Polish borders were mostly where they are currently, with only slight shifts in territory. Polish military was relegated to purely defensive role, and has lost its former power. Now, however, as new strong kings enter Polish throne, they set their eyes beyong the borders of the Commonwealth, seeking to expand their realm and bringing it back to regional power status it once held.

Leader description/bio: Aggressive, bold, and strategizing, Laaksonen's spirit continuously inspires the nation to continue defending, and to be ready at a moments notice to take back Finnish lands and expand beyond. He suffers from impatience, and sometimes gets the urge to rush government or military projects, and thus needs his wife and advisors to balance him. He always refuses to end up with the metaphorical short end of the stick, whether its him personally or the nation as a whole. He lives a very passionate and stressful life, and wants to improve Finland so his son will inherit a great and vast kingdom.

Kingdom: The Great Kingdom of Finland (Commonly known as Suomi)

Historical background: A few hundred hears ago, a Finnish kingdom would be laughable. Even after the tribes were unified, it seemed that Finland was doomed to be contested between the Swedes and the Russians for eternity. Then the plague came, and it eventually forced the two nations to retreat from the north east. The Finns took the years of horror and death that followed and molded it to their liking. No longer would Finland merely be a name for a region, but instead it would be the name of a great kingdom. With their newfound spirit, and equipment from their fleeing neighbors, they fought to secure their current borders and threw all of the knowledge and resources they had into building impregnable defenses on both north and south. With time the Finn's skills improved, their experience grew, with that their own industry and tactics developed as well. Now the concept of any heavy foreign influence, especially Swedish, was laughable. What were once pagan tribes had turned into a kingdom with the potential of being a regional power. Finland, however, is not as outgoing as other nation-states. By location, circumstance, and culture, the Finnish often choose to keep to themselves, often traveling to foreign lands for trade and little else. Now as Finland continues to build its strength it stands at a crossroad: Does it build relations with its neighbors, or more distant nations, or perhaps as far away as the Church? Or does it pursue its own course, a strong lone wolf that had survived for nearly two centuries and strives to thrive for countless more?

Leader description/bio: Klaus is hardened by years of battle with a tacticians mindset. Klaus is a heavy believer in steam technology leading to the future of Europe and is seeking to rapidly modernize Germany’s military and industry. This last week was Klaus’s 37th birthday. At the young age of 18 Klaus found himself the ruler of the Germanic Union after the successors before were slain in combat. Since then he has led the Germanic Union with brilliance. Some early mistakes did occur in his youth but over all he has been a productive and appreciated leader.


Kingdom: The kingdom works as a centralized kingdom. Resources are pooled and the market is controlled by the ruling power of the kingdom which distributes and utilizes based on the kingdoms need. There are three ruling classes in the kingdom. The nobility, the middle class, and the workers. The workers constitute most of the agriculture, and raw resource work (mining, woodcutting, processing resources, ect..). The middle class mainly lives in urban areas working in mills, work shops, merchant shops, and factories. Nobles work in administration, in high level artisan work, as military commanders, and in management keeping the kingdom running smoothly and carrying out any direct orders from the king. This gives the kingdom the ability to quickly shift production or focus without much delay in the chain of command or in productivity.


Historical background: When the infection spread across Europe the different kingdoms and duchys of the Holy Roman Empire united to hold out against the onslaught. Over the course of fighting the German people came to do away with political barriers and as one solid power they united into the Germanic Union. One collective kingdom operating under one king and court. This gave way to great cooperation and efficiently allowing the Germanic Union to stand strong against the hordes of Europe. With the kingdoms' northern wall being complete from southern Hamburg to Neuruppin the union finally has security from the hordes of Denmark and northern Germany. The Germanic Union has been able to maintain a healthy and growing population for the last thirty years and has been able to modernize the country with several factories in the industrial cities of; Hannover, Frankfurt, Stuggart, and Munich. It’s army is sizable, equipped, and veterans of constant border conflicts. Klaus himself has been a pioneer of military tactics for the kingdom.
