||Don't Let Fear Control You||
Aspen was currently hiding in a dark room under the main staircase. Her chest rose and collapsed as she shoved air into her lungs. Her blood pumped widely through her veins as she listened to the nurses shouting as they ran down the stone staircase. "Split up and find her!" One hollered as they passed the room she was currently in. As soon as she heard the last nurse pass the door she bolted out of the room and down the hallway. She knew exactly where she was headed and didn't have a moment to lose. She knew the nurses would find her and lock her up again but as long as she got to breath fresh air and see the stars it would all be worth it. Aspen checked both ways before climbing the ladder that lead to the roof. Her bare feet worked as they moved her body closer to freedom. Only a simple wooden hatch was in the way of the stunning night sky and a small shove opened it with ease. The cold night breeze danced through her long ink black hair and her small arms pulled her up onto the roof. "Beautiful..." she breathed tilting her head and staring straight up at the sky. She wrapped her arms around her knees and pulled them close as she continued to admire everything around her. It had been so long since she had felt this free, three years to be exact. She had been in this miserable place for three dreadfully long years. She remembered the day clearly. Her parents had dull faces as they drove. They wouldn't tell her where they were going, they couldn't even look at the her. They thought she was a freak! Because of them, she thought she was a freak. Aspen looked down at her hands with dead eyes. A small spark started and it grew into a tiny fire in her palm. She quickly closed her hands and dispersed the flame. Shaking her head, she stretched out onto the roof and closed her eyes, emptying clearing all thoughts.
