I can feel your pain, never happened to me but I can understand. I once saw it happen to a person that had the jack completely lodged into the port. I still don't know if they got it out...

Woah. I can understand what its like to have no sound for a long time. (The sound on my laptop is... unpredictable, to say the least. Apparently water and computers have a bad relationship. I'd advise counseling.) Thankfully I haven't ever got to deal with a lodged jack before, but that's pretty unpleasant.
