This idea needs help...

So I’ve had this idea in my mind for a while now, but I feel it’s not quite complete yet. I think it needs tweaking, or some stuff adding to the plot. Now I feel the plot is quite randomly put together… Any suggestions and/or ideas?


The Shadowslings are human like beings, who have always lived amongst humans in relative peace. Well, not exactly amongst them, as they have lived in a parallel dimension known as the Garden of Shadows. Shadowlings have the ability to manipulate shadows (quite obvious, I think), but they have much darker abilities as well. They can influence a human’s behavior, and they feed on their darkest emotions. A full-fledged Shadowling can even directly push a human to do bad things, both to themselves and others.


But as of late, the relative peace has been disturbed. The Goddess of the Shadowlings, also known as the Mother, has become more and more obsessed with taking human souls and claim them as her own, twisting and turning them into an even darker, more evil variant of the Shadowlings.


This, of course calls for a countermovement. The Lightbringers are, in many ways, direct opposites of the Shadowlings. They must keep the humans from falling to despair, destroy the evil Shadowlings (thereby possibly working together with the Shadowlings who have not yet fallen to the Mother turning darker). They will have to find out how to stop the Mother, or reverse the effect, before it’s too late.

This idea sounds really interesting (and the song is very nice). I might be interested, what kind of help do you need?

Well, right now I feel the plot is still too randomly pulled together. Like there's no line or anything. Just "The Mother's gone crazy and is killing people on Earth. Some Shadowlings joined her, others resist. Battle. The end..."


I kinda feel like the plot's not very deep... Too cliché, maybe. I know plots often tend to develop and grow much deeper as the story goes on, but anything that can make the plot more than the standard "Light v.s. Shadow" before I start this would be of help....


The only addition I have in mind so far is that the Lightbringers and the Shadowlings are the same species in origin, but two different paths... or sub species due to stuff that happened in an unknown past...

Okay. I get what you mean, i'll try to think of something to help you out.


What kind of background do the Lightbringers have? Do they have something similar to a mother? Maybe if we work backwards in this section it'll help open doors to some twists and turns we could use to beef up the plot line.

Over a year ago I had a RP running elsewhere that used a part of this idea. I think it was thought out quite well, but I lost large parts of information in an unfortunate harddisk crash...


So I'll have to do with with what I remember (using the idea they are originally the same species):


They're from an ancient race known as the Gifted or the Ancients.


Stories of what happened to them later on differ. Some say a part of the Ancients for corrupted by a Goddess of Darkness (The Mother)


Others say it was a demonic influence, and again others say they were never the same species to start with, but two opposites that are supposed to maintain balance.


Shadowlings are beings of the night, active in the shadows, always linked to dark and evil


Lightbringers are their opposites.


I never thought them out much more since that old RP died before the plot could develop to that point...


In that old RP they were just dying races and a Lightbringer lived in a circus, and a Shadowling showed up threatening her newfound family. That was all we got there xD


So yeah... both races could still use background

Crashes are Infamously horrible things. But, the Rp sounds cool. I think having them as the same species is the best option, maybe making it to where in the rp Lightbringer's and Shadowling's are both prey to the Mother?


If Shadowlings are shadow manipulators do you intend to let Lightbringers have similar and opposite powers? If so, perhaps that could give a new aspect to the whole working side by side thing. Maybe you could go deeper than that, make an undercurrent of the plot something to do with unknown tensions between light and dark?


I'll admit now that I am not the best plot developer I think. Sorry.

You mean like having the Mother be an entity that uses both for her own good? That would probably make it more interesting.


And yea, whereas the Shadowlings manipulate shadows, the Lightbringers manipulate light..


Perhaps an undercurrent plot of Lightbringers falling to the darkness could be interesting? And since the two were never quite enemies to start with, it could be that some characters used to be friends but now turn into enemies?

Oh, And another thing for Light vs. Dark is that their shadow/light manipulation would disrupt their ability to work together. Like when a shadow gets longer or shorter depending on the light in real life. Maybe Shadowlings would be affected by Lightbringers powers?

Sot hey must work together, but due to their conflicting abilities, they can't? That should make things complicated, and force players to think of very creative solutions :3
