It is what it is.
The Basileus MachineBasileus's Machine is a house-like machine "designed by the Devil and powered by the dead". It physically resembles a two-story mansion with walls made of ectobar glass etched with Latin containment spells; at the heart of the house is a central core of huge, mechanical gears and a rotating crest of rings. It requires thirteen earth-bound spirits, all of which represent The Black Zodiac in order to work. Once the machine is activated, it will supposedly open the Ocularis Infernum (Latin for "The Eye of Hell") which grants the user unfathomable power.
The machine is named after the 15th century astrologer Basileus, who created the blueprints for the machine in The Arcanum while he was under demonic possession. The machine was built by Cyrus Kriticos nearly 600 years later. However, it was destroyed before it could gain the thirteenth ghost needed to complete the Black Zodiac and open the Ocularis.

The Ocularis InfernumIt is a demonic eye located in Hell that, once opened, will allow its user (whoever's able to control it) the power to see everything in the past and future, Heaven and Earth, the blessed and the damned, as well. The Basileus Machine was designed to open the Ocularis and give the machine's user control over it.

The ArcanumIt is an ancient book written in the 15th century by the astrologer Basileus while he was under demonic possession. It contains spells, profiles on the 13 ghosts of the Black Zodiac, and blueprints for creating a mansion-like machine with which to open and gain control over the Ocularis Infernum (in Latin: "Eye of Hell").

The Bound Woman
The third ghost in the Black Zodiac. This ghost is of a woman who died having been tied-up in some fashion, but in the Arcanum, the only bound ghost is the Angry Princess (in which case, it just represents general suicide), so it is entirely possible that instead of being physically bound, this ghost had, as a prerequisite, sealed her own fate, as seen by how some sort of action, such as her infidelity, led to her demise.

The Withered Lover
The fourth ghost in the Black Zodiac. This ghost is of someone who died having a withered or worn appearance, it may also represent someone (the prerequisite may be that of a woman) who had her future, dreams or relationships destroyed or broken, like being separated from one's mate.

The Torn Prince
The fifth ghost in the Black Zodiac. This ghost has much of the skin on the right side of his body missing, leaving the bones and muscles exposed, it may possibly represent a "prince" (spoiled, popular, loved, etc), whose pride was taken down, or had his ego destroyed.

The Angry Princess
The sixth ghost in the Black Zodiac. This ghost apparently is of a young woman who dies by committing suicide and, as the name suggests, is that of a woman, either popular, spoiled or beautiful (just like that of a princess) that couldn't see past her privileges and, as such, she would be unhappy with her blessings.

The Pilgrimess
The seventh ghost in the Black Zodiac. It appears to be the ghost of a female pilgrim or a primitive woman. It may also represent an outsider or stranger, not appreciated or accepted by others, seeing the implications of her alien origins.

The Great Child and The Dire Mother
The eighth and ninth ghosts in the Black Zodiac. The Great Child is the ghost of a very large and overweight child, and the Dire Mother is that of a very small woman. They are probably ghosts of a child, spoiled even into its maturity, and a mother who was bad enough to let it happen. They may also be the ghosts of a related mother and child.

The Jackal
The eleventh ghost in the Black Zodiac. The Jackal is the ghost of a disheveled man wearing a cage on his head, which probably represents bestiality or wildness, seen as how much of a savage and of how aggressive the ghost is, as well as his depravity and sexual implications.

Spectral Viewers: These glasses are very precious. The ghosts are only visible when wearing these. They offer one more chance to flee. (Generate 1-10)
Flares: Use against the ghosts for means of escape. Each flare only has one use, so be wise with these. (Automatic flee success)
Latin Mirror: Use to repel attacks from the ghosts. The mirrors wont hold for long, so be vigilant. (5 uses)
