One Thousand Club
Growth
Mankind had breached the stars and expanded into the Milky Way over the course of several thousand years. The idea of interstellar travel was no longer fiction, but reality. The initial exploration into the galaxy was a Golden Age for science, medicine, and technology. The countries of Earth were united in a push out into the stars. As centuries became millenniums, the discoveries became more intense. Contact with life outside of Earth became commonplace and even integrated over time. It was a time of peace and prosperity.
The vices of greed, power, and evil soon found its place among the worlds. Through oppression, war, and technology, the people fell apart. The galaxy was now plagued with conflict, and billions of people lived in squander. Life became dreadful for some and pleasant for others. Different species retracted into their own factions and mapped out distinct borders of their space. Now, the galactic scale of peace and violence shifts back and forth, ever on the verge of another great war. Expansionist demands among the humans lead to a breakup of politics. Ideologies became the war banners of the future. The aggressive Iterion Empire sought power and control over the Terran (as Humans came to be called) Federation and the Coalition.
War
The Coalition originated as a break-off of the Terran Federation. The two factions are far from amicable with each other, but are allies against the Iterion war machine. Other species, while worrying about their own state of affairs, have bonded together against the Iterion Empire. The Evuvian Union and the Pe'Yarc Sector are pleasant to each other, enriching both of their worlds with unique works and goods. However, there is dissent among members of both factions for pure isolationism and adoption of a more hermit-like position in war, similar to the Animus. As each faction finds itself more divided in the midst of conflict, the Iterion superpower grows. Even so, there are talks of shadowmen working in the dark, contriving something far more dangerous and terrifying than any faction. Some are dubbed as no more than theorists, while others are revered for their warnings. Regardless, the beings in power are in no position to follow rumors as their freedom is under threat.
Species
The Milky Way is a very large place, and many sentient species thrive within it.
Terrans
Mankind has evolved and adapted to space over the years, and make up the majority of several solar systems. A constant drive for achievement and their ambition makes them both successful and dangerous. The term humanoid is applied to any species that shares common traits between themselves and the Terrans. Terrans are the ruling members of the Iterion Empire, the Terran Federation, and The Coalition.
Snendos
There is no base appearance for the Snendos. Their genetic diversity has many extremes such as the number of limbs, the amount of eyes and their complexity, the secretions through their skin, the color of their outer bodies, the pheromones they emit, and the sounds they make. The most common Snendos is bipedal and sentient, though their intelligence is more methodical and less reactive than a Terran's.
Snendos are open-minded to other races as their own is so genetically diverse. Their politics frequently includes members of different species (although it is much harder to gain support). There is a bit of contest politically for isolationism and regulated immigration, although the majority keep the borders open. The Snendos rely on the Evuvs for military technology as their own will hardly bother the Iterion Empire.
Evuvs
The Evuvs are similar to Earth's spiders, but much larger. Their upper bodies are mortal in shape, while their faces are much narrower. Their exoskeletons are shinier and can be designed with engravings, like tattoos on skin. While some do have dyed skeletons, a lot of the bright colors are natural. Darker colors are more of a rarity and therefore sought after. An arachnid's face usually has a V-like shape, and the exoskeleton is a bit softer. Their eyes can be some vivid colors, but usually one solid shade. No distinguishable pupils, as the whole eye acts as one. They also don't have noses, but rather breathe through their entire body. Around their mouth, the exoskeleton curls up a bit and gets tougher, acting like a pair of lips for whatever they are eating.
Their culture relies on beauty deeply. Immigration into their territory requires not only a tactile skill but a passable level of beauty. In some cases, extreme beauty can outweigh poor talent. Politics are similar to beauty contests. However, the Evuvs with the most power are not elected but rather professionally trained to round up and lead a society that worries more about their appearance than war. There is a bit of hostility from the general Evuv to the general Snendos due to their grotesque appearance, although it is a one-way feeling.
Petra
Before they were introduced to space-faring, their home world was split into countless little tribes, all fighting constantly and vying for power. Perhaps as a result of that constant fighting, there exists countless different physical traits among the Petra, some naturally developed, others bred for. Some have thick scales, some have spikes on their tails, some can even breath fire, but their appearance is overall the same: a bipedal reptilian with a more or less humanoid face, and a tail.
The Petra have a reputation for being raiders and mercenaries. First introduced to spacefaring when a wandering ship crashlanded on one of their planets, they've since expanded their horizons to endlessly wage war amongst their tribes in multiple systems. Some of the more radical ones, due to their penchant for fighting, took to the stars and thus arose their stereotype of being a brutal species. However, as always with the question of nature versus nurture, there are some gentle ones.
Animus
The Animus revere the cycle of creation and destruction, as Animus are only made when two Animus combine their energy to form the "battery" of their offspring, or when one is destroyed while enough excess ambient energy is nearby. The Animus can use electromagnetism to float if there's significant amounts of metal nearby, which they do on any of their home worlds or colonies. This electromagnetism can also be used to create a field between metals, and levitate anything in the field. Some of the older or particularly strong Animus can utilize the molten metal core of a planet if it's there, allowing them to wield their powers anywhere on that planet.
The Animus can link their thoughts and such with electricity, and can even merge for periods of time. They're run by a council that can typically be found in a merged state, and directly underneath the council are what they call Evaluators, which are considered to be the hands of the council. While they're quite a peaceful civilization (unless provoked), there's constant inner turmoil due to their extremely hierarchical society. Class can typically be figured an individual Animus' armor.
