An∙dro∙gen∙es∙id [ ændɹoˈdʒɛnəsəd ]
NOUN, singular (pl. androgenesids)
1. An android created through the use of advanced biomechanics. Androgenesids are a combination of living flesh and mechanical components. They are nearly indistinguishable from humans.
Colloquial: A-gens.
In the year 2064, humanity has progressed beyond what was once thought possible, but only as the fruit born from great contention. A brutal war raged on 30 years ago: a battle of arms and science that led to great discoveries in how to better annihilate each other. The use of machines alone grew impossible as advanced integrated AI went rogue, and so a new solution was created. From the discoveries in biomechanics- the merging of man and machine -metal and flesh synthesized into something entirely new. Impossible homunculi that could do what humans could not, and be more than what any man could hope to become.
Of these creations were the first Androgenesids, made to look human in every fashion, but behaving in a cruel, unfeeling way only machines could. While impossibly strong and resilient, these A-gens became difficult to control due to their lack of built-in memory and empathy. As such, they were heavily regulated psychologically, controlled by brain implants that were the only means of keeping them sedate.
When the war eventually ended, these models fell out of use. Because of the complicated means necessary to destroy them, it became imperative to develop new methods to decommission A-gens in a safe manner. With much of their original psychological coding lost to the war, the only way to take down these models was via mind-hacking: “mnemosurgery”, a once-niche science now used to manipulate memory.
Thus created the AROs: Androgenesis Recall Operatives, more commonly known as “arrows”. Once simple freelancing bounty hunters post-war, the government began to employ anyone willing to help take down the now-defunct model A-gens, eventually privatizing the practice. Now, arrows are employed by local police forces to clean up the genesis-1 models, and to investigate and take out any other rogue A-gens that might be causing trouble through the help of field-tested mnemosurgery. Displaying a reckless drive, arrows face the risks of their job head on, despite the toll it might take on their mind.
Once the war ended, newer, better, safer A-gens were created with the aid of mnemosurgery to clean up the mess and employ to unwanted jobs both on Earth and off-planet. This became the norm. As a consequence it became harder and harder to distinguish between A-gen and human. Now outfitted with advanced neural implants and perfectly-crafted memories- even expertly simulated empathy modules -something inhuman had never done a better job of being exactly what it was designed to imitate. So much so that they began to believe themselves to be human, and actualize a self-awareness not originally built into their protocols.
Now, in this city, when you stare into the abyss: the abyss stares back. Arrows and A-gens find the line between them blurring impossibly dark, and as they clash the question is pressed again and again, a phantom doctrine none have yet found the true meaning in.

We will follow the adventures of the CPD’s android-hunting units, with characters split into teams working on the mystery-of-the-week. Each “episode” will eventually converge into a singular, overarching plot and conspiracy for you and your fellow players to unravel. So get ready to wax poetic, ponder your humanity, and remember to bring your steel and a raincoat.

And there’s no one more dynamic than you. Depending on your course in life, you might know how to throw a punch or two, or maybe you use your vehicles like an extension of yourself to cause carnage.

Something about tech and machines just speaks to you. You’re no virtuoso hacker; your preferences lie in the analog rather than the code (though you’re probably familiar). Put a broken cybermod or a busted engine in front of you and you can fix it, no questions about it. You may be tough, and you probably know your way around a firearm or have an odd weapon you’ve scrapped yourself.

You’re sort of like a K9 unit, except your K9 can explode a tank. You’re combat trained, but a lot better working in a team with your robo buddy. This rp is lit to advanced lit. While we aren't going to be sticklers about word count, there should be no one-liners. Please take care to avoid major grammar and spelling mistakes. Your post should show some level of care, attempts to participate in the plot, and be understandable to your peers. Quality over quantity, as always!

Similarly, in order to keep the RP moving, you will be expected to post at least once a week. This is not a hard rule, as we understand life comes first, but in the event that you take too much time, you will either be skipped or can be worked into other posts (mentions/collabs).

Please be respectful OOC! This means not bringing drama into things, but it also means participating in the plot and interacting/plotting with other characters. No one likes a lone wolf. OOC will be on discord.

This is NOT first come first serve. Characters must be accepted by GM or co-GM. In terms of character roles, number of slots available is heavily dependent on interest garnered. You are also free to suggest roles, but it is up to GM discretion if something fits. Please be aware that for character acceptance we are looking for strength of personality and ability for the character to fit into the world and narrative.
