Fantasy The World of Mizra-Drin (Magic the Gathering inspired)

Bunesh

Filled with DETERMINATION
The first races to walk the land were not man, nor elf, nor dwarf, gnome, beastfolk, or any of the other races that are known to us. No, Mizra-din was not their birthright, but that of the mightiest race, the first race: Dragons. Great and powerful, borne of the earth itself, each one a pinnacle of the magical aether that birthed them, and thusly did they wield godlike power.

There was Volvara the Scarlet, a great red dragoness who breathed out great plumes and gouts of fire, who could bend the earth and magma to her will, or strike her foes with lightning. Then there was Lawanar the Emerald, a giant of a creature who appeared as much vine and tree as he did flesh and blood, and who boasted near-limitless strength and regeneration. The third was Taolin of Azure, who was the smallest and most slender of all the dragons but made up for his lack of size with cunning and guile, though his command of water and ice. There was also Obsidian Anuk-Sa, who defied life itself, breathing out stinking poisons and rotting all it touched, a skeletal dragon draped in a tattered black skin. Lastly, there was Evora The Pure, a feathery dragon of white who could wield the light and sought peace between the siblings, though it seemed in vain.

They all fought, though Evora seemed reluctant, each vying for the position of leader, each seeking to prove their own might and strength above all others. But they were too strong, their magics too devastating and it was the land that suffered, fracturing, cracking, twisting, and warping under the yoke of their clashes until it was clear for all to see that their world would not survive much longer should these godlike beings continue their war.

Yet, none were willing to concede for the pride of a dragon is perhaps the most awesome of all of its traits, but how to settle this war without destroying their only home? Ultimately, it was Taolin who came with a plan, a competition that would play to all of their strengths, yet also exploit all of their weaknesses: A Proxy War. They would each be tasked with creating creatures to war on their behalf and breathe life into them and imbue these new lives with fragments of the dragon's own power. Then their pawns would play out the battle, which would decide the fate of all.

Volvara made the Djinn and the Dwarves, one a race of powerful pyromancers, the other masters of metallurgy who embodied the stubbornness and temperament of their creator. Lawanar responded with the Elves, fair folk who were swift and lithe and would be aided by beasts of the land native to Mizra-din, but gifted with intellect and an upright form to make use of their intelligence. Taolin, cheeky as he was, created the merfolk who could dominate beneath the waves ensuring that none would be able to fully challenge them on the sea and they were backed up with The Giants, immense creatures who used the cold and ice as weapons. Anuk-Sa forged the vampires, a parasitic race able to spread to their enemies, forcing them to join the side of the Obsidian, and allied them with its second creation: The Undead, creatures that were barely alive, and as such immune to the trickery employed by their foes. Lastly, Evora breathed life into The Angels, a winged race of protectors and peacemakers who would stand for no injustice through the land and yet were filled with compassion to heal and paired them with The Archons, tall beings of stone and light who were to be the arbitrators of all.

Yet they were all outwitted.

For there were not five great dragons... but rather seven, but two lived in secret, watching from afar. Their names were Vaelyx The Silver and Kaelin the Gold, and they represented not any tangible element such as fire, water, air, or earth but rather two concepts that were diametrically opposed yet entirely reliant on each other: Chaos and Harmony. Together, Vaelyx and Kaelin gave form to a secret sixth race: the race of men, beings of chaos housed in a humble and simple body that had no great strengths nor weaknesses. It was this sixth race that would walk amongst the others, making the once defined colours run together, creating a wild tapestry that defied the carefully-laid plans of the dragons.

Now, many thousands of years later, the races have mixed, created strange and magnificent cities, and many wield magic of different varieties. The dragons themselves appear only as myth, but in truth they walk amongst the races, disguised as one of them, enacting their own schemes and playing out their own desires. But even in this apparent peace, conflict still emerges and there are those who would seek it steered towards their own victory and - unintentionally - the victory of one of the dragons...

=========================================

So, this was inspired by Magic the Gathering and borrows from it but is not defined by it. The story itself is very open and the races aren't set by any definition. Want to be a lizard folk? Go ahead, want to be a kitsune? By all means. Want to be a regular guy named Trevor? I mean... sure? Want to play a hive mind of 8 people who embody the idea of a hydra? Weird but sure, go for it.

It's LGBTQ friendly, with gay, bisexual, trans, ace, and other characters of varying identities inhabiting the world of high fantasy in magical technology. PM me if interested and YES if you have ideas for stories, please tell me. Right now, all I have is a setting.
