❝ I think I fell in love again…

Maybe I just took too much cough medicine.❞

Muse A has always been a misfit. To make up for their lack of friends, they had imaginary friends as a child. Now in their teenage years, they’ve grown past the age where their parents set an extra place at the table or ask the imaginary friends what sort of ice cream they want from the store.

Still, in their solitude, Muse A invents a new imaginary friend, Muse B. Muse A’s very intelligent, creative mind creates a persona so real, that their parents can’t tell that they’re not talking about a real person when they talk about Muse B.

As time goes on, Muse B seems more and more real to Muse A, and their connection grows stronger, perhaps even to the point of romantic feelings. Muse A is content to have such a close relationship, but becomes worried when Muse B starts suggesting activities that aren’t particularly legal… or safe. Muse B wants Muse A to hurt themselves, and others, for a laugh, and threatens to do the work themselves if Muse A doesn’t comply. Can Muse A defend themselves against a figment of their own imagination? Or will they give in for fear of losing Muse B?

Vivian has always been the social outcast since elementary. She shies away from physical contact, and will usually keep to herself just to avoid people touching her. She is a loner, and prefers not to talk to anyone other than her friends. She's distant, and sometimes cold.

History:

Vivian didn't necessarily have a horrid childhood, but it wasn't exactly the greatest either. She has never known her real dad, and honestly could care less if she ever meets him at all. Though her mom did achieve marriage to another man when Vivian was only six years old, and unfortunately, this man had some sick fascinations. Often used as a personal ashtray, there are numerous small dots that are actually scars ranging from Vivian's arms, legs, and back. Otherwise, there wasn't much else that was horrid in her childhood, and when she was fourteen, her school and mother discovered what her step-father had been doing for so many years. Unfortunately, her mother refused to aide her. So, in court, she was granted emancipation from her parents, and now lives alone. She's paid monthly by her parents via bank transfers to sustain her until graduation.

Name:

“Alan”

Age:

Appears to be around his late-teens

Gender:

Male

Personality:

Alan has an aloof, carefree air about him, wholly unconcerned with the rest of the world or anyone in it. The only person he seems to have an eye for is Vivian. Being the only one who can see him, her company is all he’d ever known or cared for. He never fails to be there for her when she needs him, and there’s little he wouldn’t do to keep her happy. However, after years of witnessing her step-father’s abuse and being unable to do anything about it for so long, he'd not only grown hopelessly protective of the girl, but also wary of anyone else getting close to her.

Bio:

Alan doesn’t remember if there was ever a time when he and Vivian weren't together. At the beginning, he mostly just followed her around and didn’t speak much aside from answering simple questions or making the occasional remark. But the older the girl got and the more time they spent together, the more independent he became. And by the time Vivian was five he was already chatting away with ease and dragging her along on his own adventures. He used to always encourage the girl to play with other kids and make friends, seeing how alone she always was. However, once she turned six, things changed.

Her step-father came into the picture then, and Alan seemed to become less concerned with her being involved with people and more with getting her away from them. Even so, he stayed her loyal friend through it all and supported her as best as he could, up until the day they were finally free of that horrid place. Now that their troubles are over at long last, he simply continues on as he always had - by her side.

Vivian grumbled softly, walking through the front door of her small apartment. She dropped her backpack beside the door as she kicked off her shoes, and her keys landed on the small table that was beside the door. Her habit she forced herself into so that she'd hopefully never lose her keys. She reached up and ran a hand through her hair, sighing. "I'm back." she called to the empty apartment, well, empty to anyone but her. She trudged over to the couch, flopping over onto it, and reached for the remote. "Anything interesting happen while I was at school?" she asked, turning the television on. She quietly began to surf through the channels, not really noticing the programs that passed by as she monotonously pressed the channel up button.

Eventually she tossed the remote back to where it had been sitting, the television on a random channel, cooking apparently. She tucked her arms behind her head and looked up at the ceiling. "So it's summer break now. What should we do? I don't have to worry about school until fall." she continued speaking, still to what anyone would see as the empty air, possibly the walls. Yet, Viv knew better. Somewhere within these walls was Alan. The one person who had been a constant in her life since she was little, though nowhere near as real as he was now until she was older. He had only seemed to continue becoming more and more real to her over the years. Her imagination was so good, according to the last therapist she had spoken to, that she could touch Alan, hold his hand, toy with his hair, and it all felt real to her. Sometimes, it was hard for her to believe that no one else could see, touch, or hear him.

“Hey Viv, welcome back!” Alan’s bright voice answered back from somewhere in the apartment, footsteps coming closer as he came out to greet her. “Interesting? Not really, though it does look like that noisy guy next door finally decided to move out... About time too, all that music he was blaring here whenever you were out was driving me crazy.” Alan huffed, folding his arms under him as he leaned over the top of the couch. As boring as it was staying behind at the apartment all day, he was only occasionally allowed to accompany Vivian to school. Mostly because he was always trying to "help" by passing her answers to every assignment, which was apparently “cheating” according to her so he was forced to find other ways to occupy himself. Alan didn’t really like the idea of being away from her, but he obliged anyway. At least now that summer was finally here, they could spend all the time they wanted together.

“Well, there’s plenty we could do - stay up late and watch movies together, go to the beach, maybe even check out the new fair that’s stopping in town this week if you want." Alan smiled down at her. "What do you think?"

Vivian considered his suggestions, staring up at the ceiling in thought. It had been a while since they'd really gone out to do anything, and Alan had been nice enough to oblige her on staying home while she was at school, and staying out of trouble. She shrugged, "Sure. Let's hit the fair later this week." she smiled at her friend, shifting on the couch to make room for him to sit. "As for right now... Let's watch a movie or something. I'm exhausted after final exams." she noted, kicking her shoes off her feet as they landed with a thud on the floor. She blinked as she realized she had completely passed over his starting comments over their noisy neighbor, and she nodded. "Yeah, he's moved. When I passed by there was the maintenance guy and a cleaning crew in there." she added, not wanting to act like she had ignored what Alan had said to her.
