Deep brown bordering on black, Kaia keeps her hair down most of the time, not bothering to ask her hand maidens to do anything special with it, as she’d never learned to do much besides braid herself. Usually subtly adorned with gems or shells.

A bit tall and wiry, Kaia is lean from years of running along the shore on her quest to see just once a pirate ship. As she aged she’s grown into her features a bit more.

Kaia is expected to dress the part of a Princess, and she does for the most part. She prefers simpler gowns that are light and easy to move in, often with removable outer skirts. She has a few pairs of trousers she wears into the village, and she loves them.

Kaia is a bit of a tough nut to crack. She comes across as stoic, bordering on serious to most. She keeps to herself and prefers to speak only if spoken to, especially while in the castle. As second borne, she is naturally mature and responsible, fulfilling her duties with a sense of urgency that may confuse some. She seems duty bound to the crown and her siblings, leaving her with seemingly no time for fun.

Despite her seriousness, she is friendly and seen as kind by the villagers and castle staff. She is well liked by her tutors, as she is a diligent and adaptive student. She’s always liked her studies—especially history and geography, as well as mapmaking. She’s become skilled at it, and spends a lot of her free time making sketches of the lands in the adventures she reads about.

She’s always had a particular fascination with pirates, and couldn’t shake the dream of one day becoming Queen of the Pirates, despite how silly it sounds. Even at 21, and with her duties as a princess, she wishes that she could just take a boat to sea and never look back, gathering a crew along the way of people who’d never know she was a princess. She didn’t know how she’d explain her powers, but she’d figure it out.

Not that it would ever happen. It’s because of this that she applies herself so vigorously to her duties as a princess and older sister, hoping that one day she’ll learn to love her crown.

early life

Kaia was the second born to Stavaria’s royal family. Her childhood was a happy one, a blur of schooling and trips to the royal manor by the sea, which she quickly grew to love more than her castle in the capital of her kingdom.

She was an anxious child, except for when she was close to water. She loved to hear the grandiose stories her nurse maid, Cora told her of her childhood in a pirate village, far away. The tales she told of riches plundered and islands discovered became rooted in young Kaia’s mind, and she could never shake them.

She’d always had a natural control over her powers, practicing water bending and other skills in her free time. She seemed to be wise for her years, always having an adorable sense of “adultness” to her.

later life

As she grew, Kaia was given more freedom to venture into the village and the beaches beyond, and she took the the streets whenever she could. She never shirked her duties as a royal, and usually opted to bring a few of her younger siblings along for the adventure whenever she went out.

With her parents busy ruling a country, she took it upon herself to ensure the happiness and healthiness of her siblings. A natural caretaker, she’s done as much as she can to ensure they turn out kind and hopeful and decent. In doing this, however, she’s had times where she’s forgotten to first care for herself. It’s also natural that some of her younger siblings may see her as bossy, or cold, but she’s only looking out for them.

present

Her dreams of becoming a pirate followed her to adulthood, and Kaia still sits at her window gazing towards the sea, wishing to escape on a boat. Her parents have begun inquiring about when she plans to marry, and her siblings have begun whispering about who would take the crown when the time came.

She’s become restless and antsy, not really sure of the direction of her life and scared of disappointing her family. She’s fighting an internal war between doing the right thing and doing what she wants. Her powers have grown, and with it her pull to the sea.

As her parents age, however, her duty to her kingdom becomes ever more apparent.
