The types that play Exalted.

I ran across this quote on the WW forums, I'm wondering what this crowd thinks of it.

There are two kinds of people who play Exalted: those who will hold a bridge against overwhelming odds' date=' as long as you give them a royal warstrider, and those who will hold a bridge against overwhelming odds as long as you give them a bridge.[/quote']
Do you find this true in your games? Are there more than 2 types? Ect?

Sad and unlikely... nay... I've found others. One who holds the bridge against impossible odds because he build said bridge... ^_^ ;;;

I won't even go into the one who holds the bridge against impossible odds and then collapses said bridge. @_@

Depending on the interpretation, my favorites are usually those who will hold the bridge against overwhelming odds...because the bridge needs holding, dammit. How many of you bastards do I have to kill before you give up? More than that...ah, well. Hmmm...this is really starting to eat up my essence. You know, it would be really nice if help arrived on occasion...

Given that the quote is nearly gibberish, I can't really agree or disagree.

There's also the type who will build a bridge for the purpose of defending it against impossible odds. I know these people. They're rather insane.

You forgot the people that will not defend the bridge but rather turn the exposed terrain into target practice. And by the way, the real objective was moved to some remote island in the West four months ago.

That's what I think he means, Mr. Empiric:

There are two kinds of people who play Exalted: those who like to play games in which their characters aren't as powerful as their threats and enemies' date=' and therefore the players have to succeed through sheer ingenuity; and those who enjoy the feel of being the type of extremely powerful being that the Exalted are, not necessarily requiring particularly challenging situations to have fun.[/quote']
In my interpretation, the first type is the Batman sort of person, while the second one can't wait to explode Namek with a Genki Dama.

My players have learned that holding any such bottleneck ultimately is futile. Because they will surely die in the onslaught of the mook's masters soon after.

I've always been the type to trust the dice and charge boldly.

(From before knowing Exalted, hence my love of it once I was introduced to it)

I usually heap modifiers, allies, and resources upon my allies before zipping out the near Yu-Shan gate and bragging about how we won the battle at the first bar I find, whether the battle is even over or not.

But hey, the bridge was still defended and I saved a ton of obols (since I didn't get a warstrider) that can now be used to build an even bigger bridge elsewhere.

I think it was more that Player A wants the ST to allow the super awesome gear and spells to be available and Player B is more confident in his ability to choose the right charms and stunt like crazy.

I like to think of myself as a Player B who tries his hardest to get Player A the toys he wants.

*chuckles* I can see it now.

"You want a bridge? I'll give ya yer stinkin' bridge!!!" *proceeds to heft the whole business off it's moorings and charge*

But...I do have the one character whose method for holding the bridge wouldn't require the warstrider, or anything...actually, the less on, the better.

Having the enemy army die from blood loss via excessive nosebleed is never a bad thing...and being able to flash a 15 appearance sexy body at people can potentially provide such. *chuckles*

*chuckles* Miki potentially starts wars simply by being present. Good thing she ISN'T married to an important noble, or we'd have the whole Troy thing starting in that game. She just has her increasingly unstable Twilight lover/owner to get jealous. And we already know how Karu responds to things...he'll just go off and sulk and maybe destroy a few rooms in a fit of limit break...and go back to trying to save everyone, all at once, because he lacks the spine to make any form of sacrifice.
