So I was wondering something. We vessels were chosen by these rocks but why? Do they think or something? I understand why mine chose me, I mean I'm a charming guy but I wonder about that sometimes.

Yeah, they can. The Being as a whole is kind of like a hive mind, all of the gem shards acting together to form one cohesive person. Individually, they each encompass a part of the Being, which is why a few shards (the ones that gave the Vessels power) still love humans, while the others feel the betrayal and anger and sadness.

Shame already said that while the gem did influence who they joined and gave that person memories, they don't have a consciousnesses once attached.
