Ezro Strider lay motionless in bed, his dark and quiet room keeping the young captain at peace. Eventually he began to stir in his sleep before awaking and letting out a deep yawn. Sitting up in bed, a couple bottles rolled off the sheets and crashed to the ground sending glass shards across the room. “Sunnava bitch...” he grunted in a tired voice. Figuring it wasn’t worth the effort to clean it up himself, he reached over and grabbed a data pad from his bedside table and called in a service bot to clean up his room and have his sheets taken to the laundry room.

Grunting once more, the young man swung his legs out of bed, careful to avoid the glass and stood up. A piercing pain went through his skull, indicating he was hungover as usual. Growling and cursing to himself, he carefully made his way into his shower and quickly cleaned up in some cold water before drying off and getting dressed in a training outfit of athletic shorts and a black sleeveless shirt that fit tight against his body. Once finished he exited his room and wandered down the corridor of the other bedrooms before reaching the lift and taking it down to the bottom floor where the training room was. Once there, he started off by walking over to a row of treadmills and getting up on one before turning it up to a brisk jog before finally picking the speed up to a sprint and slipped into the flow of motion.

Catarina sat at her desk reviewing the items that lay before her. There were several bullets with different labels near them. Blank cartridges lay beside them ready to be filled. She had just finished lacing her lasted batch of improvised bullets. Thickly gloved hands picked up a cartridge and started placing bullets inside them by category. These bullets lasted about a week before their potency wore off, therefore a new set needed to be made on an almost biweekly basis. She didn’t want to risk the chance of not having them in case of emergency. “God this is tedious”, she muttered as she continued to pack the bullets into the cartridge. The entire process took about three hours. Due to the risk of contamination Catarina had to finish stay there from start to finish. Three hours of no food, no drinks, no bathroom breaks, and no cigarettes. She was starting to ge grumpy.
With the last bullet packed she and her desk cleaned up she decided to wash up before leaving her room. She took a brisk shower and changed into a pair of shorts and a baggy shirt. Even after getting washed up she still looked like hell, visible signs of irritation on her face. So hungry, she thought, but I could really use a smoke. “Hey, DOC, food or a smoke?” She questioned the robot that hovered near her. “While I recommend you don’t smoke, I know you don’t listen”, the robot responded, “so I would suggest you engage in a intervention to bring your stress levels down. Even if it is smoking.” She shrugged her shoulders and picked up a pack of cigarettes off her shelf. There were worse things that could kill you, and tomorrow’s never guaranteed. At least, that’s what she constantly told herself.
Catarina set off from her room, a cigarette in her mouth and her lighter in hand. She figured she would go see if anyone else was out and about. DOC trailed behind her with an ash tray. She figured she’d stop by the briefing room to see their coordinates. She liked knowing where she was. There was always something new for her to see and learn. She couldn’t make heads or tails of their flight path, but the good news is that isn’t her job. Sheepishly she continued down the hall taking a puff from her freshly lit cigarette.

The ship, dubbed The Titan, flew smoothly through the black skies of interstellar space. Opposite the flight's computers and navigation controls stood a large lizard-wolf cross, an alien race known as a Zabailian in the far reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy, the same destination as the humanoid planet of Earth and its Earthling population. The Zabilian was the only alien aboard the small five-man crew, six if he counted the captain and oddly it was the same number as the last crew he had been part of that had traveled the stars. A forked tongue flitted out of his mouth as he hissed a greeting to the computer upon turning it on and switching off the autopilot controls, taking over manually, his transparent third eyelids pulled back and exposing the golden irises beneath. His visible ears, the two medium-sized furry ears covered in gray fur that were attached to his head, swiveled as he heard the sounds of footsteps walking around from the open doors of the bridge but none came into the bridge itself. He had ended up sleeping within the bridge, under the control panel and soaking in the warmth of the heat emitted, this way he wouldn't have to travel such a distance through the ship to the bridge to resume his job as helmsman.

Turning his head as his body remained facing the small paneled windows in front of the ship, Ajax...or Totem as he liked to be called, though went by the name Celtic Eye when on missions, watched as the ship sailed past the formation of a new solar system that was beginning to settle down and typed in the coordinates of the system into the computer for later reference, all of which he planned on downloading into his own holographic computer when he got the chance and into his own ship when he got one of his own. Turning his gaze back to the computer as it processed the coordinates and incorporated them into the interstellar universe map, the Zalbilian hissed in satisfaction before calling a service bot to get him some fruit and strips of whatever meat they had on board for food.

Meanwhile, in the briefing room...

He knew it. He knew one of the screens were on the blink. Ken just didn't have time to fix it until now. This ship was far too big for the amount of people living on it - or, rather, far too big to be maintained by a single man. He was doing ten people's work, at least. Though, that was no real surprise. As a result of the undermanned ship, which was a pirate ship and as such usually in need of repairs, the smaller things really had to be fixed when he could get around to it. Luckily, he had a free hour today in the mix of all his work - mainly because he got up an hour earlier than usual - so Ken could finally get the display screen repaired. Ken didn't need to bother, of course, but it was bugging him.

So, there Ken was. On his back, his head inside the maintenance panel of the broken computer in question. He sighed sharply to himself as he worked, the heat from the broken computer getting to him. So, that was the problem - the cooling fan was on the fritz and was overheating the entire thing. Makes sense. Luckily he had prepared for that with some spare wire and a new fan. With that in mind, he got to work - replacing the wires, re-soldering the fan into place, and so on. A simple repair job, really. Not that anyone else would have the know how to do it.

"Should've guessed that breakfast wouldn't be too popular among pirates."

Claire sighed, examining the largely untouched remains of the meal she'd prepared. A few pieces of fruit and a good portion of the seasoned raw meat she had prepared were gone, which meant that Ajax had eaten at least. But none of the food she had prepared for the humans had been taken. As she had gotten up at an unholy hour to prepare the meal for everyone, she was going to make damn sure that someone ate it.

She grabbed a tray, filling it with pastry, fruit, eggs and sausage and pouring a mug of coffee. As she set out in search of someone to feed, it dawned on her just how large the ship was. He only took on a five-member crew... Does the captain really think it's enough? She had been on enough ships throughout her career to know that one this size would be much more suitable to twenty or even more people. It seemed advanced enough to be largely self-maintaining, though that was always with the assumption that nothing went wrong.

Claire glanced into the briefing room, catching sight of a brown-haired man bent low over his work. Gotcha. As Claire's jobs had been largely confined to dealing with people in one way or another, the nature of his task was completely lost on her. He wasn't the captain, of course, which meant that he was the engineer, Ken.

She pushed open the door and knocked lightly on the frame, giving a friendly smile. "Breakfast call."

After a solid forty-five minutes had passed, Ezro eventually slammed his fist on the big red button and shut off the treadmill. Hopping off, the young captain grabbed a small hand towel to dry his face off with before tossing it into the laundry shoot. ‘Now, time to get to business.’ Walking over to the combat training area, Ezro stepped onto the mat for an advanced training program. It functioned by generating realistic holograms that could be felt and therefore gave the one who was fighting something to hit, and more importantly something to be hit by.

Over the years, Ezro had studied several different forms of fighting all over the many planets they had explored. But his favorite had been from a human inhabited planet known as earth. Muy Thai, is what it was called. It was a rather slow paced form of combat the relied on quick and heavy attacks with the legs and hands. Although, he had taken his own spin on it and made it more comfortable for himself to fight in. First of all he hated the slow nature of the style, as the captain prefers quick and powerful attacks that can be performed in smooth succession. So to change this he altered the stance, and the approach to different attacks and strikes. Some would call it foolish to be straying from the pure form of a style, but Ezro has proved time and time again that mix his way of doing things is the best.

Booting up the program, Ezro chose from one of the many functions that the system had pre-installed into his servers. A large target with a tall and bulky build, faceless but greatly defined in its body. As the blue haze appeared before him, the young captain amped up its speed and strength to try and give him a challenge. Once the program initiated the combat began quickly with the two fighters circling the ring. This went on for a short time before Ezro closed in and began working his strikes and steps, combo after combo he unleashed all the while avoiding the programs own attacks. It wasn’t long before he had drained his opponents energy and the hologram shattered in dramatic effect as Ezro unleashed one final punch to the chest.

Breathing heavily, Ezro stood up straight and stretched his arms out before exiting the training room and getting back on the lift. While the platform took him back up to the residential area, he typed up a quick message to Ken on his data pod. “Meet me in the Engineering bay, I have a little surprise for you.” With the message sent, Ezro quickly went to his room where he showered and freshened up before dressing in a loose white shirt, some black pants, and a pair of red converse. Before setting off for the engineering bay, the young captain stopped off at the cafeteria to pick up some breakfast but found that Claire wasn’t anywhere to be found. “Damnit, I missed breakfast again.” Ezro grumbled under his breath before going into the kitchen and grabbing himself a plate of what food was leftover. Now it was time to head to the engineering bay on the other hand of the lower level next to the training area, to which the captain ate his meal all the while. Once arrived, he would wait patiently.

Ken was still under the computer when Claire entered the room, though he was almost done. It was a quick job to fix the computer, and already it was starting to cool down properly. In fact, all that needed to be done now was to refit the access panel and reboot the computer, which would take time over anything else. Just as he was preparing to stand up, he heard a voice behind him. "Ah, perfect. One moment." With that, he began putting his tools away - didn't want anyone accidentally gouging themselves on a red hot solder iron, after all. It only took a few moments for him to refill his toolbox, though.

He cracked his knuckles as he stood up, relishing in the sensation. His mechanical elbow whirred slightly as he did so, before he reached for the tray. "Cheers. Being the only guy qualified to fix a ship this massive means I don't really get to eat at normal times." Immediately, he reached for the coffee before taking a massive gulp. He needed his wake up call and besides - it meant the coffee machine was still working. Though, the captain could possibly afford to get some higher grade bean - this stuff tasted like tar mixed with ash. Not very pleasant, but it got the job done he supposed. Sighing, he grabbed some of the food from the tray and began to eat, somewhat hungrily. "So, how's everything on your end? The kitchen stuff still working?" Just as he took the third bite, though, he heard a beep come from his pocket. With a look of small annoyance, he pulled out the phone but his face twisted quizzically as he looked at what the message was. "A surprise..? Sorry, Claire, and thank you but the Captain wants me for something." With that, he placed his half eaten breakfast back onto the tray before taking his coffee and toolbox to the Engineering Bay. As he arrived, he looked around. "What's up? Anything broken?" He said, through sips of his drink, before placing hiss toolbox back on the shelf it usually sat on.

“Oh, finally! You’ve arrived.” Ezro grinned at the engineer, the look resembling something of a child’s face on Christmas. “No, it’s not that something’s broken. It’s more that I’m fixing something for you for once. First of all.” The captain cleared his throat before stepping closer and putting his hand on the mans shoulder. “I owe you an apology. I’ve been taking advantage of you in abusing your talents and then offering you little to nothing in return. I’ve given you a lot of work and a lot of stress and it wasn’t right of me, but you are damn good at your job and I just wanted to get the most out of you. But, that leads us to the next order of business.” Ezro let out a loud whistle, and almost instantly three hover droids each about three feet tall burst out of their own individual boxes on the work table. The three of them looked around before approaching Ezro and giving him a sort of mock salute before turning and facing Ken, and giving the same salute to him. “Meet Crescent, Nut, and Bolt. These three are robots that I built especially for you. I’ve wouldve had them sooner for you, but it took a while to get the programming just right. I’ve had the entire ships status system built into them so they can know when somethings wrong right when it happens. They should be able to help you with all of the work and give you more free time. I think they’re fit and ready to go, but if any bugs occur let me know.”

By the time she had reached the briefing room, Catarina had noticed Claire bringing out food to Ken. The realization hit her she probably should’ve ate breakfast first. Shit, she thought as she stared at the tantalizing plate. “Sorry Claire, I hope you didn’t put anything away I’ll be there soon. I’m starving”, she told her as she walked over to where Ajax was to view the Titan’s location.

Most would have been scared by the large, intimidating Zabilian, in fact she was pretty damn intimidated at first. Catarina quickly realized he was a great member of the crew and pushed away most fears of him. Although she knew better than to piss him off. “So, Totem, can you tell me a bit about where we are?”, she questioned. She stood close enough she didn’t have to yell but far enough away the smoke wouldn’t bother her crew mates. Catarina didn’t want them to experience second hand smoke.

Turning his head towards the sound of a feminine voice behind him, the alien pilot watched as one of his crew members came onto the bridge, one of two females in the crew as his primal instincts reminded him. Not that the Zalbilian was interested in mating. He'd like to see his home world again at least, see if his parents and nest mates were still alive. He gave a curt nod of his head, a strange thing to see on one of the non-human beings but years of captivity at the hands of human and elf had led him to picking up some of their gestures and emotions. Not that their emotions led towards making him in any way a complacent being or tempered his own complex personality. "We've passed a newly forming solar system a short while back...I've programmed its coordinates into the computer's interstellar map. Currently in the Perseus Cluster, approaching NGC 1275," Ajax said, tapping a few controls on the computer in front of him and bringing up a hologram that he enlarged to show the map of the known universe. "Size to show Leporis," he ordered, the computer doing as told and shrinking to show the coordinates of the newly formed solar system. Raising a clawed finger, he swiped it across the hologram in front of him, causing a slight ripple in the projection. "That's the new solar system forming. Estimations are that it is about twenty to thirty planets currently. This..." he pinched two claws on the hologram and spread them apart, causing the map to zoom out, "is our current location...the little green blinking dot is the ship." As he spoke, he ordered the location to appear on the map with the current galaxy they were and then a location of where they were on the interstellar map, the map resizing to take up half the bridge while the other half zoomed in enough to show the blinking green dot amidst the light blue dots signifying stars and galaxies. Catarina started at the map in fascination. There was a whole new solar system she had never seen before. She wondered if the newly formed planets held any life whatsoever on them. “Fascinating”, she said as her eyes roamed around the enlarged map. There was so much left to the imagination concerning things like this. While she would love to visit each and every planet, she knew that wasn’t possible. “So we’re here huh?” Her eyes narrowed to the blinking green dot. The next thought in her mind was what were they going to pass. She was planning in her head what planets she might be able catch a glimpse of during their travels. “Thanks for explaining”, she said sincerely before taking another puff of her cigarette.

Catarina began her journey to the cafeteria to make herself a plate before Claire put the rest of the food away. Her pace quickened and the still smoking cigarette she smushed into the ash tray DOC was carrying. “Throw that away when you get the chance”, she commanded the robot. She didn’t want ashes near her or anyone else’s food. The tiny robot heeded her command and went off to the nearest garbage disposal unit to get rid of her ashes. Sometimes she felt bad about commanding the advanced robot to do trivial maid work. Then she remembered he was not programmed to feel any sort of emotion. Her remorse was short lived.

Reaching the cafeteria she couldn’t help but feel her mouth water. The tantalizing aroma filled her nostrils and she could hear her stomach let out a loud growl. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this, she thought as she got closer to the food. Prior to her joining the Titan’s crew she never really cooked for herself. She did have a cooking unit in her old home, but robots didn’t have that good of a sense of taste. No, nothing could compare the the cooking style of a living creature who knew how the hell to cook. Grabbing a plate she began to stack it with all sorts of foods Claire had prepared.

"We are," said Ajax. "I will notify the captain whenever he comes to the bridge, for now we're going to cruise through through this current system." Catarina then excused herself and left, the Zabilian's tongue flickering out of his mouth, tasting the nicotine within the air before drawing it back in. "Welcome," he said to the quiet around him once she had left, stretching out his tail so that it rested behind him on the floor instead of curled to the side though he was also able to lift and hold it up off the floor. He remained at the controls, setting the ship on cruise and leaving the map up in case the captain wanted to view it whenever he arrived.

Kainen opened his right eye and it wasn't until he heard voices outside that he lifted himself off the bed not bother to fix the sheets. He wasn't a morning person and undoubtedly he has and will always be the last to wake up, picking up his shirt from off the lamp he eyed it before putting it on. Kainen's clothes always managed to get tattered in almost all conditions not to mention how they end up in very unusual places like once his sock was found in one of the cooking pots which wasn't a surprise to most. He barged through the door not bother to brush his hair although he took into consideration his other hygienic responsibilities, taking a quick shower and brushing his teeth. Yawing he walked into one of the rooms not paying mind to anyone else mostly following the smell of food finding a half-eaten breakfast he didn't hesitate to sit down on one of the many types of machinery and began eating. Kainen stopped eating after realizing that he hadn't seen the captain taking the sandwich he made himself out of the leftover breakfast he walked himself over to where the captain had been standing it wasn't hard to find him either with those fairly big bots standing next to him. Not wanting to intrude he waited for the men to finish the conversation while he finished his breakfast.
