Can we please do something that doesn't involve dark elves being assholes. Can we just have them be like, nice guys who just happen to not like sunlight.
Okay, a new idea:

Earthquakes spread throughout the region. A local hermit claims the reason is supernatural and gives the party the task of stopping it all. They travel to a mine and discover the earthquakes are caused by an earth elemental, whose eye was gouged out by a clueless miner who hit it with a pickaxe upon mistaking it for a gem. Now, they must track down the miner and get the eye back.

How about some goblins somehow managed to steal some of the tavern's money or valuables, we need to return it.

Yeah that could work, we meet at the tavern, and talk about how we aspire to be adventurers, the barmaid overhears us talking about it and says that their gold shipment had been stolen and if we manage to return it, we get some sort of recommendation or accommodation in the long run giving us more work, or is that too elaborate?

How far away is the nearest ocean? Are there oceans?

...basically, how feasible is it for me to play a disenfranchised ship's captain?

Well I mean, so far we have a swashbuckler with a golden tongue, a quiet ranger, and a necromancer.
Something you could do is be the opposite of the necromancer, say like a healer.
Then you could have some sort of natural rivalry, I mean the party is bound to have problems and infighting right? Not everything is suppose to go smoothly between the characters. That'll heat stuff up and you'll always have a rival to compete with.

Question: Is it necessary that we specifically outline all of our characters' magic in the sheet, or is it all right to omit those basic utility/elemental spells you mentioned that don't cost mana?

It's fine. You can omit the basic utility/elemental spells. After all, conjuring a small fireball is easy.

I think the heroes all start going to the tavern, or start in the tavern, they go about their businesses before they all end up sitting together or bumping into one another.
After the heroes get finished talking, a barmaid comes over and talks about a stolen shipment and asks if we want to do it, we say yes and head to the camp with the goblins, and our heroes get to learn each others abilities there.

That's all I have so far.

Okay then.

Sounds good to me. I was also thinking of some sort of cult or a group of slavers attacking villages in the area and the party is asked to track them down.

I thinking about making the IC thread soon. People can keep submitting characters but we have enough characters to star now.

Alright, whenever you're ready but give everyone a notice on the interest check to make their characters before you do.

I like pretty much all of these suggestions honestly. I'd be okay to end up doing whatever interests our characters most, but I realize that that could end up in chaos.

We could have each person have a turn at what they want to do next, so if you wanted to further your story arc, or kill a dragon. Bring it here and we can discuss if it's going too far or not.
If we did that though, we'd need a list giving us the order everyone goes in.

Or We could just cast a vote. There are a bunch of ways we could handle this. Let's just focus on getting the party together.
