Empress of the Lunar Empire
For hundreds of years, 4 empires have held ultimate control of nearly every continent of the New World. Each of these powerful nations, were blessed with the elemental powers of their respective Gods and their leaders are direct descendants of them; the Gods of the Sun, Moon, Earth and Sky.
With great power, comes great greed.
While one empire prospers from wealth; another plots to take their riches. While one nation boasts about a powerful army and has plenty of food; another worries about their weak defenses and starving people.
Each empire is controlled by an Emperor or Empress, who will determine how they proceed with their dealings for each nation, with assistance from their nobles. Some may have an ally with a nation and have respectable trade connections or some may be an enemy with a nation and has barred their foe and its people from entering its land.
However, there are several pockets of troublesome resistance emerging, in addition to the rising tension between the 4 major powers…
Which powerful empire will survive the struggle and rise on top?
Ranks/Castes
Emperor or EmpressEach nation is ruled by an Emperor or Empress, who makes the laws and decisions regarding their subjects. They are direct descendants of a God/Goddess and are therefore natural-born magic users. The nation of the Sun are users of fire, sun and light based spells. The nation of the Moon uses water, moon and shadow spells. The Earth nation uses grass, rock and mineral spells. While the Sky nation uses air, wind and sky based spells. Effectively, this makes it difficult for one nation to overpower another as they each have a weakness depending on their element.
It is common for the rulers to hold private, peaceful conferences in a neutral territory named, Heiwana Tochi (Peaceful Land) which is owned and presided by local monks with no allegiance to either country. Although, the 4 rulers have their armies to accompany them (just in case), it is understood that bloodshed is strictly forbidden upon the holy land.
Head Priest/Priestess
Although they are not in it for wealth and power (at least on the surface…) the leaders of the Shinsekai (New World) religion, a religion followed by all nations, are highly respected and feared or well loved. They are the ones who determine the punishment of law breakers or sinners, whereas a noble is only capable of judging the accused.
The Shinsekai religion is a humble religion that worships the four Gods, while encouraging peace and humbleness, much similar to an old-world religion called, Buddhism. Though they are peaceful and forgiving, their punishments are widely feared, hence the amount of respect they have.
Nobles
Depending on the country one swears allegiance to, there are different titles and names designated for their nobles. However, their job remains the same. These are the rulers who serve directly under their leaders and are on top of the social class. With their wealth, armies and influence, they are the only ones who are almost as powerful as their leader. With their influence, a noble can get what they want, even from their leader…if they are cunning enough.
Soldiers
Although soldiers have their own ranks amongst themselves, they are all required to know magic, in order to better defend themselves against their foes. They also enforce the law and because of this, they are respected and feared by those in classes lower than them.
Merchants
A merchant can either live in poverty or have wealth depending on their sales, but it doesn’t necessarily gain respect from those in the lower or upper classes. Merchants are able to travel amongst the different nations (depending on if there is a ban or not; sometimes permits are required) and are able to trade food and commodities that might not be available in another nation.
Peasants
These people make up the vast majority of their nation’s population. Whether they work in tea houses, restaurants, farms or other occupations, they are all classified as peasants. They can climb through the ranks as a merchant, soldier or monk to eventually become a noble or Head Priest, but one cannot become an Emperor or Empress by rank alone. Only a pureblooded noble is considered as an option for marriage to a nation’s leader. Foreigners and nomads are also grouped into this class.
Slaves
Slaves are the lowest of the class and are treated like property. However, there are a few high ranking people who know to never underestimate slaves, as they could either spy on rivals or come together and lead an uprising against them.
