The Spawning of Monsters

I was working on a game idea last night and i would like to use "The Spawning of Monsters" (Sapphire magic S&S page 134) as an Emerald magic spell. Any ideas on how i would go about converting it, besides just doubling the mote cost and lengthening the ritual?  I would like to have lady Mnemon use this on herself... but she can't cast sapphire.

most obvious possiblety... is to create an artifact that simulates teh effects of the spell.


do you HAVE to have HER be the one casting it?


if not....


then you might simply have a bronze faction sideral cast it for her.

Well, who ever cast it is the one whom the spawn is totally loyal to.  So technically even if a sidy cast it on her the spawn would be loyal to the sid and not her.

It's difficult to convert this spell: It's basically just powerful. As it stands, there are no trade-offs, the progeny gets all the best bits of both parents.


First, give it requirements. Lots of them. Things like, tears from the western godess of fertility, or something odd like that.


Secondly, change the effect. Make it a hit-or-miss operation. The first batch of monkey-bats mightn't get the wings right, and might only have dex 1 because of misshapen limbs.


Perhaps: Roll the rating for the higher of each attribute, keep the result. (Not counting 10s as two, Minimum 1)


In other words:


Monkey Intelligence: 2 (Smart Monkey-More like a chimp)


Bat Intelligence: 1


Roll two dice: No successes! Intelligence 1. On to wits.


Do this for everything they have in common, and ignore things they don't share. (Thus, you might have to train the Monkey-Bats to give them the Athletics specialty in flying that all normal bats get at birth.)


Mote cost the same as before. Doesn't work AT ALL for supernatural parents, offspring are entirely infertile.

O i went and scrapped the mnemon idea. Changed her out for a sidy so it works fine now.  But thanks anyways.
