Jace looked away as Pride acknowledged her presence, glancing outwards and up. High above her, where the eerily blue sky glistened like water, a flock of birds whirled. Cawing and shrieking, it appeared to be a fight between two eagles over a female mate. Jace suddenly seemed interested, head tipping to the side as she slowly uncurled, rising to her feet in a slow, serpentine movement.
Sure enough, there was a cry of pain and outrage as one of the eagle started to fall, crashing into a tree not far from Pride. Jace didn't seem to think twice, already headed for the tree as the eagle fell. Flexing her hands briefly, she sidled past the sin and reached up, hauling herself onto the lowest branch of the tree the eagle was plummeting into. She delved into the leaves, ignoring pricking twigs and thorns as she finally reached the quacking eagle.
Carefully, Jace wrigledher way towards the massive bird, his beak snapping andhis talons lashing out. Pausing her approach, Jace let the bird catch her scent, his head cocking as he watched her. This is where Jace slipped up - she had never helped a predator birdlike a eagle, always the smaller creatures like squirrels or crows. She moved too soon, and the eagle lashed out. However, she remained calm, oly wincing a bit at talons tore into her arm, drawing along wound fromthe inside of he elbow to the back of her wrist.
Letting out a short breath of pain, Jace approached the bird once more, carefully this time. It took a few attempts, an the only reason she could come close enough to touch tmagnificent creature was because he was slowly dying, squawking sadly. Jace sat on the branch carefully, cautiously reaching out to touch the creatures scarlet-colored feathers. Healing wasn't an ability of hers, and it pierced her to her core as she comforted the eagle, hearing a few squawks of pain.
Finally, the rapid rising and falling o the eagles feathered chest slid to a stop, his wings going lax. Jace felt her eyes tear up, the familiar burn behind her eyelids as she stroked the birds wings once more. She knew that such a rare and wonderful creature should be burried, but she wasn't sure as to get the body from the tree, twenty feet off the ground.
Or herself, for that matter.
