Hi!


I had a question about the D20 system of role playing. I've never used dice in a play by post style of RP, or at all for that matter. How relevant will it be to our game? I'm very interested to join, but I'm not sure how I feel about a D20 system.


I'll throw up a CS anyway, and we can always decide later.


 
Also, I'm not exactly clear on what it is our characters are doing, so writing my character's background is a little tough.


What is our quest? Who is employing us? Where will we be starting?

The d20 will be used whenever a player performs an action that it feels like he might have a chance at failing. Like drinking ale won't require a roll, but breaking opening a reinforced wooden door might.


Backgrounds can range from anything, honestly. In the world there is a man, no one knows who he is, but he is causing massive trouble throughout the continent, and about to start a war. Your goal is to stop him from succeeding. As for the employer....that could be anyone. Could be you're trying to stop the nightmares, or just in it for the thrill of the quest.

Alright, but what is tying all of us together on this quest? Do we know we'll be heading on this quest together? I feel like there's a missing sense of team if we're all just kinda doing our own thing and are supposed to somehow band together. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just trying to put the pieces together.

Nah you don't seem like a jerk. Actually the questions help me add more detail.


So in the beginning you are all separate, and I will respond to each post according to where you say you start, and something will lead each one of you to one location. An event causes you to band together. Trying to keep it vague as to not tip off certain events.


Basically you all start separately. It's fine if some of you know each other, but in the rp is where you meet

Ok that's my biggest question. I didn't want you to spoil any plot points, was just curious how all of this kicks off. Should we at least have a local town/kingdom/area that we're all starting in or around?

Yes. Good point. You are all starting in a region called Valdin, it is a prosperous place, with a large capitol and lots of farmland. You all start in the city, and are trying to make your way to the palace. That seem like a plausible start?

A little bit of both. Some think she's a cheat (which she is) and hate her for it, others think she's a great gambler (which she also is) and respect and look up to her for it. I think for Kieth it would be the former.

Alright. Also something important to consider when choosing somethings about your character; the type of class you choose effects the stats directly.

Another question; how do all the races feel towards one another? We're starting off in the Elven capital if I'm not mistaken. Since we're on the brink of war, I'm sure racial tensions between the realms are at an all time high.


Obviously our characters can have their own racial opinions, but I'm more concerned about how the elves of Valdin feel towards the other players and myself. I guess for now all that really matters is how elves and dwarves feel towards the various races, unless someone wanted to have a racist character lol

Elves feel hostile towards dwarves, and vice versa


Humans from the west are becoming more and more hostile towards everyone else


Since Valdin is filled with inhabitants from all over, it is on the brink of a civil war

So of Valdin is a hub for all races merely founded by elves, why are the elves specifically mad at the dwarves? And is the other city only inhabited by dwarves? Or do all races inhabit most of the world?


 
And why are the humans mad at everyone ?
