Fandom The Search - Character Sheets

IC | OOC | Interest

For character sheets I am looking at how well they fit into the universe, the diversity they have with other characters (mostly the diversity of bending) and their depth ect.
At first I will likely limit players to one character, and probably open more after the first story arc unless there is some reason a player needs to create two characters.
Any queries, ask in the OOC, or pm me.

Tao Charan
d6980bf37218733dbe8802563d3a7883.png

(Skin is slightly lighter than on image)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11"
Appearance: Tao's eyes are green, as is common with Earth Benders. His body unscarred, but he has a rugged physique and is often dirty from his bending. He is reasonably sturdy in stature and is slightly muscular. He has short-medium brown-black hair, which he generally leaves in a mess after being flattened by his hat all day. Usually he'll have a serious expression when travelling, always trying to stay on his guard, but when comfortable, he'll reveal more of a smug smile at times, happy to get a moment to relax.

Clothing: Tao will usually adorn custom Earth-Kingdom garments, such as a green short sleeved shirt that hangs down the outer sides of the legs, with below knee height darker green shorts, and ankle bands. He prefers to go bare foot, but does have sandals for when he's not on solid ground. He also wears a green conical military hat. His most valued item however is a leg-band with an inscribed emerald embedded into it, which he wears on his lower left ankle, a reminder that to truly see, he must trust in the earth.

Age: 19
Bending/Fighting Style: Earth Bender, skilled for a basic soldier. (No adapt weapon skills)
Special Abilities:
Seismic Sense: When focusing, Tao is able to detect movements within the earth. He can also detect a pulse in this way if the target is barefoot on the ground, though it takes significant concentration.
Earthen Fury (This is an example of an ability which initiates due to a strong emotion response, and is intended to give characters something that differs them from other benders/fighters. At the start of the rp they should have little to no control over such a power, and it will likely only be seen once per arc): At times of great despair or desperation, a feeling of complete helplessness will come over Tao. His pupils will dilate and his eyes will become completely pitch black. During this short time, he will become very vulnerable to any attack. Shortly after he will encase himself fully in a thick shell of earth, so he is unable to do this in deep water, air, or metal. This earth encasement will cause him to form the appearance of a sort of earth golem, growing in size to around 8 feet, and a proportional width. He becomes impervious to most damage, and his powers to bend the earth are increased greatly. He will not stop until all those who caused the distress are dealt with, and afterward he will fall in an unconscious state for a few hours due to the loss in energy. Suffering from memory loss after being awoken.

Personality: Tao is extremely stubborn, as is common with his people, though he can admit when he's wrong after being proven so. He is also a lover of fun, especially when it comes to street games and gambling, where his ability gives him an edge on the competition. This also attributes to his enjoyment in hustling others, so long as they deserve it, or so long as it gets him what he wants.

Yet Tao is kind at heart, always willing to help those in need, for his friends that means even if they aren't keen on sharing their troubles. In conversation he generally attempts to come off as friendly, but can be easily offended, and isn't the type to back down from a serious discussion or argument. He's not the type to talk another's ears off, and is quite weary of strangers, for good reason, but once he gets to know someone it is normal for him to share his own story.
Tao is fiercely proud of the Earth Nation, and would do anything to protect it... Or at least he thinks that he would. Green and eager, he doesn't realise just how easy he has had it up until this point.

Pets/Mounts: Jojo his Ostrich Horse mount.
Weapons: None
Equipment: General rations, simple camping supplies, a reasonable amount of allotted Earth-Kingdom silver and copper.
Born/Raised In + Nation of Origin: Gaoling, Earth Kingdom
Current Location: Taku - before being sent out in the task force
Born to a wealthy family, Tao was always slightly spoiled and stubborn as a child, but there was always one way he was kept respectable, learning the ways of Earth-bending from his grandfather. Earth-bending came naturally to Tao, but only in the physical way, having some of the best instructors money could buy. But his grandfather, noticing his arrogance, challenged the young boy to a friendly duel. He was reluctant to fight the blind old man at first, but the constant pestering forced him to accept. Underestimating his grandfather, who he soon learnt was a world renowned Earth-bending master, caused him to be quickly crushed in the match.

Tao stormed off in a fit of embarrassment and shame from his defeat. Running from home, he found a cave to rest in for the night. However when he awoke, the cave entrance was no longer there, and he was stuck in darkness. A couple of days went past and he had almost given up hope, before noticing a large disturbance in the cave, the noises he heard were the badgermoles creating and closing holes in the cave systems. He had learnt about them, they were completely blind yet they were the original earthbenders, using their earthbending to communicate with the ground and 'see'. It only gave him more to fear however as he was unsure how they treated humans. For another couple of days he tried to read the ground for guidance, but his limited ability to use his feet to guide him only led him to the middle of the cave, where he decided to try to meditate, to further understand this. Later that same day during his meditation a hand rested on his shoulder giving him quite the shock, it was his grandfather.

"I understand now." Tao stated "Only the blind poses this kind of ability." His wise grandfather sat beside him and responded "You do not have to be blind to see, my child." He handed Tao some water, which was quickly drank "You must believe in the earth, and let it guide you, all living things are connected through the earth." With that his grandfather rose him to his feet as support "Now come, you need proper attention." And with that the blind man led Tao out of the Cave of Two Lovers, to receive medical attention.

Falling unconscious in his grandfathers arms halfway through the journey back, he awoke to find his parents standing over him, crying in thanks that their child was safe. and that they were sorry they did not protect him from leaving. "Mother... Father... No one but me was responsible for this" he answered in shame. "I must apologise to you both and... Grandfather Xin..." Xin Fu came to his side "You have learnt a life changing lesson, and for that I accept your apology." His parents were outraged at his grandfathers comment, until Tao burst out "You have spoiled me for long enough, though I am grateful for all you have done for me... I must request grandfather to train me how to truly Earth-bend." Xin Fu accepted, and Tao's true training began.

Xin Fu was a harsh master, but continued to train Tao despite the countless stubborn outbursts he would have. Having training sessions such as hurling rocks at him while Tao was blindfolded until he got it right. Eventually Tao had learnt a great deal, but Xin Fu was gravely ill. On his deathbed he handed Tao a band with an inscribed emerald implanted, in a sickly tone he stated "Let the Earth, guide you." Before finally departing. The emerald read "Trust in the Earth, and you shall see."

By the age of 15 his best form of entertainment was to scam and cheat gamblers in the streets. Using his seismic sense to find the stone in a game of clams or other such games with his friends. This however got him into trouble rather fast, quickly getting him apprehended by the law. He had two options, serve time in the Earth Kingdom military, or in prison. Though his family could have gotten him out of the situation without trouble, he accepted his punishment and left for Taku, to serve a defensive role there.

His abilities were fast recognized earning him respect within the division, and just after his 19th birthday, he was put into a special squad to hunt for the recently missing avatar.

Name: Ren, Lau
Image: Lau-lau
Gender: Female
Height: 5'
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black, straight, chin length with a bushy fringe.
Clothing: Plain Rice farmers hat always seems to be on her back or on her head. She wears comfey shoes, usally sandals. Her top is usually a black or maroon singlet. Around her waist she has a pair of plain black pants the puff out around her legs and pull in at the ankles. Around her waist she tends to collect and hang fabrics of various colors, tying them like sashes or sarongs.
Age: 17
Bending/Fighting Style:
Fire Bending, Karate go Kan Ryu Style fighting.
Lau fights with high movement and swiftness, relying more upon her knowledge of martial arts than fire bending techniques, with any fire used more often than not being an extension of a punch or kick or grapple
Special Abilities: Fire and Brimstone:
Strong emotions within Lau cause her fire to become more powerful but more erratic for a short time. She will counjer up a great deal of energy within her and convert it into great torrents of fire shooting into the sky a ways then raining down all around her causing serious damage to anyone standing within a 10 meter radius.
Personality: Lau is young, eager to prove herself to the WORLD. She is nieve, and thinks little to no harm will come upon her. Her outlook on live is extreamly relaxed, carefree and pretty ignorant. She isn't stupid, but she is very reckless. She understands that she needs to hide her identity as a firebender in these times of political unrest. As a matter of fact she has a brilliant memory and can recite every book found in her home town word for word (Thats like three whole books!). Lau is well meaning and does like to be a help to people. Trouble is, she also loves to be a big hassle.

In times of stress, Lau can and will grow up and get serious, with the odd joke at someone else's expense thrown in. She loves people, she thinks knowledge is great, and the best way to learn is from others. She doesn't know what to think about the people with whom she shares an element, she is of the opinion that they aren't good people, but then again, she's never met one. She has a curious nature and endless energy to spend. She THINKS she has the know-how to travle the world by herself, and when lau thinks something is possible, she jumps into it head first.
Pets/Mounts: Hippo-Cow, male, 4 years, Named Lalan
Weapons: N/A
Equipment: Camping supplies, BIG saddle, Small sack of money, Eating utencils, Big rucksack, Some berries and other fruit, knife(For cutting food)
Born/Raised In + Nation of Origin: Wu-Kai-Jie, a very small town on one of the islands surrounding the main fire nation capital
Current Location:
Backstory:
Lau came to be when a general of the Fire Nation Military named Ren, Wuxie became heavy with child. She did not want this baby and helplessly waited until it was time to give birth. When baby Lau was born, she decided that she would give her to her grandfather to raise. She left the baby screaming outside with a note attached to her cradle that simply stated her name, her day of birth and the words 'Please take my Burden'. The man who raised her was named Yuen. He was a non bender, as were all the villagers in Wu-Kai-Jie. Yuen was a kindly man with a great wealth of knowledge that he only seemed to share one sentence or clue or riddle at a time. Lau quickly found out about her bending, but she was not allowed to practice in the village. There was a great fear of the coming war among the people here, and they simply did not want to risk being involved in anyway.

Yuen grew crops, practiced some kind of fighting style that looked a lot like movements from one of the numerous air and earth bending scrolls he had laying around his study. Lau, desperate to learn how to do something other than milk the cow-hippo's and go spear fishing, begged him to teach her how to move like that. She would have lessons with him, learning how to dodge, to deflect and to use a greater strength against your opponent. Secretly at night she would practice her moves with fire.

She trained quite hard day and night. Hearing about the possible war, hearing snippets of fearful conversation from her friends in the village, it all made her feel as if she needed to be prepared... for something. Unfortunately she learnt the hard way how dangerous her bending could be if not controlled. She was messing around one night, having stolen a scroll Yuen kept locked in a room forbidden to her which contained fire bending techniques. She practiced the forms a couple of times and then recklessly jumped right into practice.

The night ended with more than one wicker huts alight with roaring flames. luckily, apart from a few minor burns and some not so minor property damage, no body was seriously injured or killed. Lau was in disgrace after that. Most of the villagers wanted her gone, only Yuen wouldn't allow her to leave on her own. He seemed to be under the impression that this was his fault.

After about a week of death glares and whispered insults, Lau couldn't take it anymore. She had spent the whole week tirelessly re building the huts she'd destroyed, then she set off with a few supplies and her entire savings from working for Yuan at the farm. She took her favorite Hippo-Cow Lalan and set off into the distance, leaving Yuen a kind note saying she'd be back some day, and a few gold coins for the animal.

Name:
Koa Yansa

Gender:
Male

Height:
5'10"

Appearance:

Koa is a slightly pale young man, more pale than his other family members. His hair doesn't curl much and he typically wears it in ponytail that he drapes over his shoulder. Speaking of his hair, it has an unnatural tint of blue to his normal ebony locks. This is because of special dyes that he uses from time to time. He follows through with it because tradition instates him to do so. Under his robes he has a tattoo that wraps around his right arm, though many people don't typically see it as it is hidden the majority of his travels. Scars from intense training litter his fingers and hands, as well as a deep scar on his face, just above his nose. While he walks, he likes to let his sword arm rest in a sash. This also allows for the enemy to possibly underestimate him because of an apparent "Injury".

Clothing:
Koa is a man that doesn't like to be restricted and therefore has a hate for needlessly tight clothing that could restrict him from performing his best in a fight. Despite that, he also understands that decency is an important thing to have in the face of company, forcing him to wear clothes. So to make up for this, he has chosen to wear nice, loose
kimono-like tunics that cover himself up and also allow free movement. They aren't too durable however, seeing how thin the material is, so they typically get ripped in battle, devastating him. Koa will typically just fight barefooted but also has hand carved wooden sandals that he carries with him in case of certain situations.

Age:
18

Bending/Fighting Style:
Koa has been blessed with the ability to use fire bending like many others in the fire nation but he does not incorporate it into his fighting. Instead he uses his blade, Kiyaya. He had very basic understanding knowledge of being a fire bender so far, the only real spectacle he can do is light his sword a flame.

Special Abilities:
Way of the Warrior: In desperate situations of hopelessness and times when he or is friends are in major danger, Koa is able to use all of his training and battle experience to "Shut off" his nerves. What he actually does is use his before knowledge of the pain he received to toughen up his body, allowing him to take hit after hit without being slowed down. When he does this, his movements typically get wild as his sword swings all around him, attacking anything in his wide range of attack. Obviously he can't keep it up for long as pain is only part of an injury. After the fight he typically feels completely sore and exhausted, on top of all the pain he took from the previous fight washing over him all at once, normally knocking him out.

Personality:
Koa is not a man of many words. Being known for his actions more than his words clearly shows that he isn't one for small talk, usually only incorporating his opinions when he truly cares or when asked directly. He can typically respond in hums and grunts making others disgruntled by his lack of social ability. This does not mean he isn't a nice man once you get to understand him. It's as simple as that. He just doesn't like to talk as he thinks Kiyaya should do more of the talking. When needed he will always attempt to lend a hand, even though he isn't good at much besides sword play....but he tries nonetheless. When on battle he is ruthless but he always gives the enemy to change their way and do better for their own good. He is a traditional man that follows in the way of the teachings of his birth village.

Pets/Mounts:
N/A

Weapons:
Kiyaya, a long blade that he carries on his back and wields with his left hand.

Equipment:
Koa doesn't carry much. A small pouch of assorted fire nation currency and earth kingdom currency. He has his sword and sheathe always strapped to his back and small bag of rations.

Born/Raised In + Nation of Origin:

Small Tribal village of Tapu Donsei, found very close to the Black Cliffs in the fire nation.

Current Location:
Near Omashu, currently traveling. Just before the caves.

Backstory:

Koa was born to be the heir of the Tapu Donsei tribe, found near the fire nation in the Black Cliffs. The tribal clan stuck to a very minimalist way of looking at life. There was little to no modern technology there which made them practically shut out from all other communications are the world. The men were to be warriors from the moment they were born while the women would take care of the clothes, food, and other in tribe chores. Oddly enough, it was the men that raised the children. Therefore once Koa was born, he was immediately being raised by his father, Maiyun, the leader of the tribe. This tribe also held no ill will, nor favor for ANY of the countries or nations. They only followed in the way of themselves even though they have been told that they lay upon fire nation soil. Koa feels the same way, as his relations and loyalty only fixate upon the tribe, not the fire nation.

As he grew up he learned the Sword art of the Tapu and learned his fire bending from his father through harsh and grueling training. The training was so severe that injuries that litter his body today are not from battles, but from lone training. As he was shaped and molded into the perfect heir and soldier he did not see his mother once. Once done with the training, there was one final step to take. "Travel the world." his father had told him.

"For one to gain an understanding of Tapu, one must first gain knowledge of the world you on. This small piece of land is barely anything and you will be a failure if that was all you know of. Therefore you shall travel the world and learn. Learn of the people and ways of the other people in this world. Once you are done, you will be eligible for my place as the chief."

Before setting off his father had also gave him a challenge, the same one that he had gone through during his travels. "Don't use your fire bending unless needed, understand my son? It will build up your self control and allow you to practice your swordsmanship at the same time, something that still needs work."

Therefore Koa set out to travel the nations alone, in hopes of understanding the world, and more importantly himself. He still hadn't found something to drive him like his father had or his mother, but he was sure he would find it out there somewhere. He just had to look.

[[picture as inspiration, she doesn't look as young as the picture, though she does look young]]

Name:
Kyo
Gender:
Female
Height:
Five feet, six inches.
Appearance:
Intimidating would be the last word anyone would use to describe Kyo. She's of average height and has a slim build that makes it obvious that she isn't particularly strong. Despite this, she isn't as delicate as she seems. She can both take and give a punch, though she isn't likely to win many physical brawls. Her brown hair is cut short into a bob style and she has straight cut bangs that end just a bit above her eyes. Her long eyelashes frame green eyes. Overall, she carries an innocent look to her, which she doesn't really mind. However, she does mind constantly being told that she looks younger than she is. She envies women with curves who look their age. When she tells people that she's eighteen, they often don't believe her or are surprised. Unlike master airbenders, Kyo does not possess arrow tattoos.
Clothing:
Kyo prefers the loose, somewhat baggy clothing that most airbenders are known to wear, not only because it allows her to move with ease, but also because it makes her look a little larger and not as slim as she otherwise would look. Currently, she wears this: loose yellow pants that clinch right under her knees and a matching top that wraps around her chest and has one sleeve on the left side. She has a dark orange sash that wraps around her other shoulder and is held in place by the red belt that is tied around her waist. Her boots are a grey color and come up to her knees, meeting the bottom of her pants. Additionally, she has an arm band on her right forearm and a bracelet on her wrist made of cloth that has a glass charm with the airbender symbol. || After the air nomad genocide, there's a strong chance that she will change her clothing style to not stand out.
Age:
Eighteen [18. ] However, she commonly passes for younger, much to her disdain.
Bending/Fighting Style:
Kyo is an airbender. Like most airbenders, she does not enjoy fighting. She isn't the type to go for direct confrontation when it comes to attacks. She sticks to defense most of the time. She tries to dodge and block and redirect her opponents energy. She tries to employ evasive maneuvers in battle. Being an airbender, she's especially agile. If pushed to battle, she takes out one of her fans and uses it as a weapon. She doesn't often take out both.
Special Abilities:
In situations where she's put under extreme duress, Kyo takes out both of her fans and spins while waving them so that she creates a sphere of moving air around her. As she continues, the sphere of air lifts up with her inside it and the air beneath her becomes a tornado and grows as it lifts her up until she is out of harm's way. The resulting tornado moves around and tries to get rid of whatever was threatening her. When she's safe, the tornado gets smaller and smaller and her air sphere lowers to the ground. The air stops moving and she collapses. After using this move, Kyo falls unconscious for somewhere between 12 and 24 hours. When she wakes up, she's incredibly sore. For the first few hours after waking up, she can only lift her head. Slowly, the soreness dissipates and she regains control of her body. By the sixth hour she's usually able to stand, by the 10th she can walk without support. It takes a couple days before she's fully recovered and back to her normal self.

The air sphere is similar to Aang's elemental sphere in the avatar state, except it's only the air part. The tornado is similar to the waterbending water vortex.
Personality:
Kyo does her best to incorporate airbending philosophy into her day-to-day life and the way she interacts with others. She's the peacemaking sort that doesn't get into conflicts with others. She tries to treat everyone with kindness and respect no matter who they are. She tries to solve problems in a way that everyone is at least somewhat happy. Kyo is a planner. She likes to know what she's getting into before she commits to it and she always meditates before making big decisions. She's creative and empathetic. She wants to understand other people and other ways of life. In stressful situations, she stays calm and collected. It takes a lot to make her lash out because she's patient, understanding, and forgiving. Because she's so curious and wants to understand things, Kyo is very talkative. She's open and loves being around people. However, her peaceful, kind nature does often lead her to getting taken advantage of. She finds difficulty in saying 'no' to people when they ask her for help.

Though she doesn't particularly enjoy being deceitful, Kyo can very easily use her youthful look to get sympathy from people. She seems so innocent and harmless that people trust her easily. She can feign distress and act so well that people believe her lies and feel sympathy for her. She doesn't hold the same strong nationalism and pride that other people do; she wants to drift between all nations and learn about them all. She's a traveler at heart. She wants to move around the world and not harm any of it's creatures. She values freedom above all else.
Pets/Mounts:
A koala sheep named Shu. As she walks, he trots behind her or next to her. He's about the size of a pillow. At night, she often lays her head on him and uses him as a pillow; he doesn't mind. When they travel together, she often talks to him as if he were a real person.
Weapons:
As an airbender, she practices nonviolence and does not like to engage in combat. She carries two metal fans around with her, but usually only uses one. They can strengthen airbending moves, shield her from some attacks, work in the same fashion as a boomerang, and even as regular fans. They're heavier than they look. And sharper.
Equipment:
Kyo carries around her glider, which generally looks like a walking staff unless she opens it up. Hers has a strap, so she can just sling it over her shoulder and carry it that way when she wants.
She has a coin pouch of various currency that's she carries at her waist. It sit in between her shirt and wash. Her belt goes over it, keeping it securely in place.
Born/Raised In + Nation of Origin:
Kyo was born in the Western Air Temple. She was raised and taught airbending there.
Current Location:
Kyo is travelling from the Western Air Temple to the Eastern Air Temple in order to choose a flying bison as a companion. She currently wherever the RP starts.
Backstory:
Kyo was born in the Western Air Temple. Her parents were two airbenders who loved each other. Her early childhood was incredibly normal. She played with other kids, helped her grandmother make fruit pies, and learned how to use her glider with her father. Her mother was one of the many women at the temple who helped teach airbending. Training as an airbender went well for Kyo. She picked up fast on most things and went through the tiers of airbending at a faster than average speed. Every day after class with her mother, she'd run back to her grandmother and tell her everything that happened. Kyo absolutely adored her grandmother. As a child, she hated the meditating part of training, but, with her grandmother, she sat quietly and mediated with her because she liked being around the woman. If she ever struggled with an airbending movement, her grandmother would practice with her. They often took walks around the temple and her grandmother would tell her about the other nations and their customs. The little girl loved hearing her grandmother tell stories.

Unfortunately, perfect things cannot last. On a cold, winter day, in the middle of a class, one of the other teachers came in and told her mother that she was needed elsewhere. At the time, Kyo didn't think of it much and just continued with the practice. She was struggling with the move, so that occupied her thoughts instead of her mother leaving. When they were dismissed, Kyo ran to go ask her grandmother for help. When she entered her grandmother's room, she was surprised to see no sign of the woman, just her mother sitting on the bed and crying. Her grandmother had passed away in her sleep that night. Kyo's entire world felt like it had come crashing down. How could the woman she idolized so much be dead? She'd never felt grief so deeply. The twelve year old girl refused to talk or eat for a week. She slowly tried go back to her normal life. When she went to class and tried to participate, she couldn't. It wasn't for lack of trying or wanting to, but she was unable to airbend. Everyone was absolutely shocked.

For the next year, her parents took her to every kind of specialist they could think of. They went to the other three temples and no one could figure out what was wrong with her or how to fix it. They tried all kinds of medicines and meditations and chi exercises. They went to monks in the mountains and nothing worked. Other kids stopped hanging out with her for fear that they would lose their own bending. She became an outcast. Kyo was the only person in the temple who was unable to airbend. She hated the feeling of everyone staring at her and whispering behind her back. So, she decided to try traveling by herself. She knew the other nations had nonbenders and she felt like she would fit in somewhere there better than she was fitting in at the temple. Her parents, not knowing what else to do, allowed her to. So, she began travelling and meditating on her own. She visited the places her grandmother had told her about. After six months, she went to a village in which her grandmother had worked as a spiritual guide. She spoke to people who had been deeply affected by her grandmother. She stayed there for a month.

While Kyo was in the village, she meditated and tried to connect with the spirit world. She learned about the lives of these nonbenders and she felt accepted. She tried to help them with their problems and anything else she could. In turn, the villagers gave her food and shelter and taught her self defense using metal fans and even let her have one of their koala sheep as a pet when it took a liking to her. She felt acceptance again. She felt happy. One night, she dreamt that she was with her grandmother again. She tried to talk the woman, but couldn't. Instead, she just hugged her. Her grandmother kissed her forehead and told her that she was so glad that she was happy and that she was learning about the world. She told Kyo that she loved her and had to go. Kyo mouthed 'I love you' and 'Goodbye'- two things that she hadn't been able to say before the old woman had died. When Kyo woke up, she was floating. This only lasted a second before she fell back onto her bed. Her bending was back. She gathered up her things and thanked the villagers and made her way back to her home at the Western Air Temple.

At fourteen years old, Kyo was the farthest behind in her entire airbending class. She had major catching up to do. After more than a year and a half of not being able to bend, it was as if she was back to being a little kid starting to learn how to airbend. She worked hard during the last four years and mastered thirty of the thirty-six tiers of airbending. She meditated every day. She plans to travel the world as soon as she finishes her training. She still has a little more training to finish before she gets her tattoo and is considered a master. Now, she's on her way to get a lifelong companion at the Eastern Air Temple.
