Humans have long been gone from the earth...weather killed, in hiding, or exploring the far reaches of space no creature knows. What we do know is that winter has come...and we are alone. New intelligence has crawled into our minds like a predator, unnoticed until it is to late. Instincts are going to war with feelings and dreams...Where before it was every rat for him or herself, clans have developed. Where before it was only about competition, survival, and reproduction...now it is about something else. What? I do not know...for the better or the worse... times have changed.




This is my first attempt at a role play on this site...so please excuse errors and offer advice.


A Word


I have been thinking of starting an rp on this site for quite a while...and imagine my surprise when I find myself making an interest check for an rp loosely (very loosely) based on the warrior cats. I wanted to make a relatively simple dice rp and was originally going to create a warrior rp. Now I am creating an rp that may not be as simple as I was hoping, and revolves around rats.

Key Points

~Combat, Hunting, Scavenging, etc are all going to be based to some extent on dice.


~In this rp rats are going to have a max lifespan of 10 years, instead of their true life span.


~I am hoping a relatively good map artist or even just an artist who is willing to help me with settings and characters.


~ Grown characters will be made in the doll divine rat creator. (Until Further Notice)


~ Characters can die or get seriously wounded in this rp...


~ I was thinking of an rp with around 5 dedicated people who are willing to have multiple characters.


~ Rpers will have 1 Primary character and at least 2, but preferably 5 secondary characters.


~Primary characters will likely not die unless there is realistically no escape.


~Secondary characters are much more likely to die, but that does not mean they will.


~Secondary character appearances, gender, and age are chosen by myself (unless you convince me you have a really cool design for a secondary character)...their personalities are chosen by you.


~Primary Characters are solely created by their rpers.


~ Semi-Literate to literate is preferable....what is really important in this rp is attention to detail.


~ When I ask you your favorite color put your favorite number instead.


~I need rpers who will stick with the rp or at least contact me if they are going on a trip, or leaving permanently.


~The NPC's will be rped by myself and eventually someone I trust with that responsibility.

At least once every two days, though frequently more often, preferably medium-fast paced.

Semi-attention, though can play a "main character" if necessary. Not a "spotlight stealer", prefers to be a team player. No MarySues/GaryStus here.


Can you play characters that are best described as 'average'?


Yes, characters are all unique and individual, but not necessarily a special snowflake.


Can you do basic bbc? (A border, Health Bar and Image?)


Yes, I can use rather intricate and advanced BBcode if needed.


Do you often find yourself unable to find a purpose for your character or get writers block often?


Only if given a stalemate scenario. Characters generally try to find purpose for themselves or have set goals from the beginning.


Do you understand or have time for dice?


Understands dice, has made several simple systems personally. Willing to learn and provide input and suggestions.


How often are you on RPN?


Every day.


Do you like playing good or evil characters the most?(Or in between.)


Depends on the setting, will fill characters required by storyplot. Characters can vary from simple bystanders, outright villains, or noble heroes, among many others.


What kind of character do you usually play?


One seeking to find answers or complete some personal goal. Most have personal flaws to overcome, though some consider themselves "perfect" and get proved wrong, often.


Could you supply a five sentence or more rp sample?

Ah~ Two things on why i simply can not join.


One- I don't hate, but DISLIKE the dice concept in Rp's.


Two- I am simply falling behind in my other rp's that i am unable to handle this currently.

I'm not sure what's considered literate vs semi-literate. I prefer to format my posts more like what's normally seen in novels but I often get 2 paragraphs depending on what's happening. More if there's actually something going but I feel like 3+ paragraphs of descriptions is overkill if it's something that can be described in a few sentences just as well.


I also tend to not make super long posts during dialogue because there's really only so much to write sometimes.


How many times can you post a week?


I can do maybe once or twice every two days or so.

What would be the point of playing a background character, you feel me? All of the characters in a roleplay should be the "main" characters and all of them should be the center of attention, as in, the plot revolves around the characters and not the characters around the plot. But that's not to say that I'm an attention hog, I'm the opposite and love boosting other people's characters.


Can you play characters that are best described as 'average'?


That's no fun? Characters should be doing interesting things to keep a game interesting. If a character is 100% average in every way then they have no drive to push a story forward. But generally, yes, my characters don't tend to be power fantasies.

Yes, I can do that but why? Is it required for me to do these things to post a reply?


Do you often find yourself unable to find a purpose for your character or get writers block often?


I do get writers block but that's really only if there's literally nothing for my character to do. Finding purpose for everyones characters is a collaborative effort for everyone playing. It's a group effort!


Do you understand or have time for dice?


I don't understand this question because I don't know what system we're using to play. In theory, yes, I would probably understand. "Dice" isn't a catch-all term because there are systems out there to use. I know a few free games that I can point you toward!

Life on the road was hard and as the days grew shorter, Tyreese grew more worried. And it was growing harder to hide it. They were moving north and winter was drawing near, the long nights were cold. They needed somewhere to live, if not permanently then temporarily until the mornings weren’t covered in frost and they could move on.


Living in a car wasn’t cutting it.


“Tyreese?” Lizzie whispered one morning. Her breath puffed out in a cloud. “What do you think will happen to the walkers when it snows?”


Tyreese looked at her tucked close to Carol next to him with Judy sleeping in her arms. Mika was pulled close to him, his arm around her.


“I don’t know, Lizzie.” he whispered back, “Die, maybe.”


He caught a glimpse of sadness in the girl’s eyes as she rested her head against Carol’s chest. His gaze lingered on her then shifted back to the foggy window. As much as he wanted to rub off the condensation, he didn’t want to be seen by the swaying shadows that moved sluggishly along the road. In the night, the walkers gathered and caught the group in the middle.......(((it'd be too long))

Awesome! You are accepted. Oh and to answer your question an image would be preferable in the post but not required...same for the border. Health or Status Bars will likely be an important part of this dice game but details or suggestions will be gathered from the group if we get enough rpers to start this rp up so weather or not that will be required is up in the air.

I'd also suggest picking a roleplay system since it's a dice game but theres no description of how we'll be using the dice. I'd suggest FUDGE because it's easy, free, and made to work with any setting!

Could you explain FUDGE? Like I said before I am pretty new to dice roleplays...and though I have a grasp on some roleplaying systems...I did not even know that there were names for different kinds of systems.

Don't give up hope yet, there is still plenty of time to pick up tons of new players. As far as dice are concerned, I don't think you need anything as drastic as a full system to cover an RP like this, perhaps deciding what it is you want to roll for and how to roll it, I/we can help you create your own customized mini-system just for this story, it would be a lot easier than slogging through hundreds of pre-made systems trying to find the exact one that fits what you're trying to accomplish.

Wanting to have scavenging, hunting and combat calls for a real system and tbh it'd be easier to pick up a simple system like Fate/fudge than it would to make up your own that works like you want it to work. In the end it's up to Nebula though

Give me a second (or a day) to try out the Fudge system in the things I'm thinking about for the rp. Perhaps I will go with fudge and perhaps I will make a kind of hybrid but I have to test it all out. I'll keep you guys updated. And show you any progress I come up with.


Some of the things I have to consider...


The prey rats hunt will mainly be birds, insects, snakes and other small animals....depending on how much these creatures have changed over time. Predators like cats, dogs, predatory birds, predatory snakes...and anything bigger though there is a point where running is the only option. Which stats to choose: Defense & Attack....should Health be added with defense? I feel at the moment that agility, strength, endurance etc should be a smaller part of the three above. There is also the whole hunger thirst problem since this is a survival...for that I was thinking of deducting a certain amount of numbers for each post for water and food. Ex: -15 Water, -10 Hunger for each post made....


And this is what I was talking about...I do not want this rp to get overly complicated but the things above are things I wish to include...So I will very much need your guys insight on what might get overly complicated/ or not as we make a skeleton.


As for the rp, there is the possibility of starting it. It depends on what story line we want to begin with though. You guys want to give me your own ideas and I will add them to my than we can choose from them? Just keep in mind that the setting will be early winter, in a very old abandoned city that is basically part forest. It may be possible to start out the rp with certain story lines...but whether or nor the individual character will survive or do anything would depend entirely on getting at least one or hopefully two more people interested in creating characters.

Here's an easy to use site that is basically the rules to a Fudge derived game called Fate. The only real difference is the addition of Aspects(character traits that give bonuses to rolls) and Stunts(special things that only that character can do) which i think is neat and adds a little something to your characters.


On the drop down menu all you'd need is what says "Fate Core" you can ignore the other headings under it like "Fate Accelerated" etc
