Off to a Better Place
This is a side story set in The Chronology Series, and serves as a prelude to its finale, Chronology: Ultimate.
The end was on the horizon.
With the multiverse so widespread now, word spread easily over the happenings. Multiversally spanned gossip, as it were. Two years ago, before an incident now infamously known as The Tesseract Incident, that would have been considered impossible. However, not all of it was mere chatter. Today's incident, for example, was one specific incident that many knew was inevitable, but at the same time, hoped would never come. As a few individuals sat around the round table which occupied the head office, they discussed the matter at hand.
"We don't have much time before he arrives. Our intel suggests that he will be here with an entire army within the hour." Winter Schnee, the normally composed militant who was now visibly stressed by the ordeal, thanks to her slightly desperate tone of voice and her slightly twitching index finger, which was curled around her upper arm, said to the room as a whole.
"Let's not panic." Steve Rogers, known as Captain America, said as his gaze averted everyone. He pensively stared at the table before him, with one hand resting against his cheek and the other laying on the table. "We don't even know how reliable that intel is, after all."
"Gotta love that giddy optimism..." Tony murmured under his heavy breath, trying to keep himself cool with his normal Stark-branded quips. He glanced back up to the room, facing one of the many survivors of the Tesseract Incident, Leonardo Watch. There were a few others here, such as Arthur Morgan and Tandem, but Leonardo was the most... level headed when it came to recounting the events of The Tesseract Incident. "You, glass-eyes," Tony said to Leo, causing the boy's head to snap upwards to look up at the Iron Man within a matter of nanoseconds. "You were there when Zant attacked everyone and killed Cobblepot. Are there any weaknesses you can tell us that he might've given away about Ganon? Past lovers? Allergies? Anything?"
"N-no, SIr..." Leo replied, shaking his head. "He almost killed us, before Penguin used that gun on him..."
"And I wouldn't suppose that any of us have an influx of Kryptonite and Twilight just lying around?" Tony asked, turning to face the room. Everyone was quiet because of Tony's obvious rhetorical question, and the man in question merely sighed in response. "Yup. Thought not." He then looked back at Leo. "Well, goggles boy, have you tried using your... magical eyes to locate him?"
"I can only see in this current universe. They won't extend past that." Leonardo replied.
"Okay..." Tony paused and tried to think of anything else that could possibly benefit them. After only a few short seconds of pondering, he looked up again. "What about that Togami kid? The one Scott picked up in Gravity Falls?"
"All he told us was that Zant came into contact with him shortly before the incident. He told him that he would spare his universe from the Twilight if he acted as a vessel for Bill. Togami didn't believe him at first, so he killed his friend before his own eyes, and unleashed what little Twilight he could use on Cobblepot's former base of operations." Winter explained.
"What was the friend's name?"
Winter glanced down at the small stack of papers in front of her. "Makoto Naegi. Eighteen." Steve and Tony closed their eyes and shuddered at the thought of whatever Zant had done to that poor kid. The room fell silent after that as everyone tried to think up any possible strategies in their head. As suspected, though, nothing came to mind for any of them. It wasn't until another voice-- one that wasn't even present in the room-- spoke through the loud intercom that the silence was finally broken.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMBLE!!!
"Uhh... we need all MPF guys outside... stat! Like right now!" Came the sudden voice of none other than Scott Lang.
"Guess that means us..." Tony said as he and the others stood up and exited the room. As everyone made their way outside of the building, and I mean everyone, their worst fears had finally come to pass. There was a loud thunder that cascaded through the skies, and it accompanied the dark clouds which swirled above them all. One wing of the building had already been destroyed. Rubble and bricks surrounded the entire area, the debris covered up by a rising cloud of smoke. The bodies of some notable members, Plutia, Rouge the Bat, some raptors that had sneaked in, Mica Amazos, Mewtwo, Ladybug, Saiki Kusuo, Akechi Tomoko, Avatar, Professor Hidgens, Cat Noir, Inien the Witch, Onyx, and possibly even more that were buried under the debris. As tragic as it was, however, everyone's attention was focused on what was in front of them.
An army of what looked like goblins, wizards, warlocks, and just an assortment of horrendous looking beasts surrounded the MPF, and outnumbered the surviving members by a longshot. Captain America and Iron Man, who had both suited up and were now donning their respective armors, stood in front of the large number of MPF soldiers beside them. Jason Todd, otherwise known as Red Hood, had his hands tightly gripped on both his handguns as he stood alongside the personnel that had gathered outside.
"About time you all got here! We've already lost half our fucking guys!" Jason snapped to the people in the meeting room, though all of them remained quiet. Winter and Leo followed in beside Jason, while Iron Man and Captain America made their way to the very front.
"Yup, this'll definitely interrupt our brunch plans, Cap..." Tony muttered as he stared at the thousands of soldiers who occupied the grounds of the partially destroyed MPF base in front of them.
Captain America, the spitting image of the perfect soldier, stood tall beside Iron Man, staring down the army head-on. The army in front of them snarled and growled as their leader began to slowly march his way down the middle. The remaining MPF surivors looked on as well, as their number one enemy, the one who had been orchestrating everything since the start, finally made himself known.
"I see you've been acquainted with my army. Apologies for the damages." Ganondorf said. His voice was deep and husky, yet his words had that certain unnerving polite air to them. If it wasn't for the sadistic grin stretched upwards on his mouth, one might even think his words were even halfway genuine.
"He's here for the Tesseract." Captain America said sternly. Not another word was spoken from Ganondorf or anyone else. Instead, what followed was an eerie silence, with the only sounds being the subtle cracks of thunder in the skies above. Slowly, Ganon began to raise his hand. And then, it began.
Slowly but surely, black particles began to fall down from the sky. Those black particles began to build upon each other, and within seconds, they formed a giant cloud of darkness, which began to envelop the entire base. The dead bodies which were once laying on the ground lifelessly were gone in a matter of seconds. Everyone here already knew what was happening. Ganondorf was enveloping this universe in Twilight, and he was starting with the MPF's base of operations.
"We have to start evacuation!" Steve shouted to Tony.
"There's no time and we don't have enough resources!" Iron Man replied, before turning to face Red Hood. "Jason, go find that Togami kid and take him, Leo, and Midna to these coordinates!" He shouted, before tapping some digits into his gauntlet. A string of random numbers appeared on a light blue holographic image from his arm, and Jason began to take note of it in his head as he read them.
"Okay! What the hell are you gonna do?" Red Hood asked. Tony turned back to the army before them, who appeared to be itching for a fight, as well as Ganondorf, who appeared to be smirking as he slowly drew his sword.
"Hold these guys off and hopefully not die in the process. Now go!" He shouted to Jason. Jason nodded and grabbed Leonardo Watch by the wrist.
"Come on, kid!" He shouted as he dragged Leo into the collapsing building. Shouting and the clanking of metal could be heard as the two armies began to duel behind them in the constantly growing field of Twilight.
The Cape was mere seconds from collapsing in on itself. Smoke and Twilight filled the room, making it especially hard for anyone to breathe. The building was mostly empty, and the duo made sure to evade any areas that were completely enveloped in Twilight as they sprinted past the rubble. After a fair bit of running through debris, fires, flooded rooms, and a heap of other obsticles, they finally reached the holding cell areas.
"You fraggin' losers here tah finally lemme outta this trash heap?" Lobo, who had been arrested shortly following the Blood Gulch Incident, asked with a growing smirk on his lips, with a cigar literally hanging from his clasped down teeth.
"Put a fuckin' sock in it, ass-clown." Jason said as he ran past Lobo's cell.
"Alright, but it won't stop the place from collapsin' and killin' all of ya bastitches!" Lobo laughed while taking in a large puff from his cigar, and blowing the smoke out into the air in front of him. Jason and Leo ignored him and instead made their way to Byakuya's holding cell.
"It's about time you two showed up. This entire place is collapsing, if you didn't notice." Byakuya said, his attitude as dry as his wit. Though, he was clearly distressed by the situation nonetheless. Not wanting to have a building collapse on you would do that to a person.
"Yeah, we fucking noticed, smart-ass!" Jason shouted as he disabled the plasma bars which kept the prisoners from escaping, and grabbed Byakuya by the arm. He yanked him out of the cell, which caused the blonde to protest because of the harsh treatment, but Jason ignored him. They sprinted out of the cell room and up into the room portals room. None of them were activated at the moment, which was probably a good thing. "Okay..." He muttered as he made his way over to one of the panels that was attached to the portal. "Let's see.. four... two... three... three.. seven..."
After inputting quite a few more digits, the portal flashed to life, and the three ran through. Moments later, the building collapsed in full, and The Cape had been destroyed.
Just like that, The Multiverse Protection Foundation was no more.
The final battle had truly begun.
The end was on the horizon.
