The Red Adder

To live life upon the streets claimed by the Red Adder, entrenched upon the surface of Mars, meant to succumb to sovereignty. To scrape together food, clothes, and enough pay to maintain a roof over your head meant borrowing from their pay roll. To share bread with them meant murder. To steal their bread meant death. To defy their ways, tear up their streets, or leech off their stocks meant crucifixion.

The Red Adder - the largest planet-wide crime syndicate known in the Milky Way. Shortly after the colonization of Mars syndicates began forming, and with the planet's extreme distance from Earth, law enforcement soon became a fable of the past. Petty theft and crime was dealt with by the small local police bands, but the syndicates were left to their own devices and wars. The wars that ravaged Mars in following years turned it into a no man's land - a place for scavengers and bounty hunters, refugees and criminals. Out of the ashes of the would-be civilized Earth clone, the Red Adder syndicate rose. They were untouched, unrivaled, and undefeated by all. Naturally, no one stood in there way.......

Naturally, nothing has changed.

To live a normal life on Mars meant cutting the corners of civil law - what little law there was. Nearly everyone was surviving off the Red Adder's paycheck or some other syndicate's; all the money flowed through them. Raising a family meant teaching your children how to survive, no matter the cost, even if their destiny was to play lap-dog to some criminal boss. That's how life was. It hadn't changed in 40 years... wouldn't change in 40 years...

"... What a rotten way to live..."

"So... what are you waiting for? Grab that Molotov and gun, for you're planet side now."
