Kane , would you mind if I add Katrielle as a relationship? I'm planning on making a somewhat-bubbly fellow who's a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, and I think his personality might be a good balance to Katrielle's. I would assume he could be one of the (few) people who grasp and appreciate her odd approach to friendship. Does that sound okay to you?

As I've been writing up my character, I thought of another role - perhaps that of a marine, or in other words, a "security specialist." Just as merchant ships would have a complement of sailors to protect their wares in the case of a boarding, perhaps this character could serve as a guard against any threats to the ship, its cargo, or its crew?
This would not work very well. The entire crew works together in tandem to protect its mail and people. A 'security specialist' would render all of that null. I highly recommend looking up ship roles online and getting back to me. As is, we have a full crew.

: I can see Jonny and Hayes' relationship going one of two ways. Hayes longs to be back among high culture, which might put him off of an oddball and a drunkard like Jonny. However, Jonny is the chief provider of alcohol on their travels and likes to cook high culture cousine when long voyages and finances allow; Jonny also provides him with a way to let loose, enjoy himself and forget that he doesn't really want to be on the ship. I can imagine Jonny taking Hayes into the larder to show him the fine drinks he has procured. Furthermore, there may well be a sub-conscious connection between them given neither have revealed their true reasons for being on the ship. I can also see them debating together, though Jonny would be more listening and being flippant than providing real meaty content!

: I can see Shep being a regular of Jonny's games and see them getting along well, sharing a drink and conversation about Shep's carpentry and construction.

: This is potentially an interesting one. From Jonny's perspective, I think he'd have a good amount of respect for the captain given their decisiveness, idealism and ability to act according to their own ideals. However, I'm wondering how Reno would feel about Jonny, especially given I'm suggesting he's on the ship more because the government put him there than because he was particularly outstanding, and even Reno wouldn't be privy to Jonny's history. How would she feel about his drinking problem, and all his secrets?

: This also has potential to be a really interesting dynamic, as reading your character form I get the impression that Henry probably wouldn't like Jonny much. I can see his drunkenness and general whimsy coming across as unprofessional and hence rubbing Henry up the wrong way. Furthermore, Jonny is basically trying to do the same father figure thing as Henry, albeit in a way which promotes recklessness and idealism more than proper professional values - Henry could see him as a competitor in this regard. Thirdly, they are both on the ship due to governmental recommendation, and again I can imagine this being annoying for Henry, who having earnt his place through years of Naval loyalty and excellence finds some hippyish drunkard receiving the same commendation. Jonny on the other hand would be indifferent to Henry, maybe even cheekily furthering his annoyance as far as he could get away with.

(Katrielle): At 6'7'', she's taller than even Jonny, which would unnerve him as he's used to being taller than those around him! I can see this being a pretty layered relationship - on the surface, a cold awkwardness between the two, given her professionalism, standoffishness and difficulty being social compared to the ease Jonny has in being warm with people. On his side, he'd also be uneasy around her because of her skill with weapons - he prefers to know he is stronger than the people around him. Yet underneath there may be a sort of fearful connection, as both bare the scars of some kind of secret history (Jonny doesn't show his as much, but a little glimpse may have intrigued Kat). They both have secrets, and there may be a sub-conscious connection over that.

: Not a whole lot of ideas here; he didn't name the robot bird after her though as he has had the bird since coming to the ship well before she was there. I can imagine her enjoying his storytelling though.
