mackenzie's father, took over his father's business once he got married, and became the owner of a garage. mack's mother remained a homemaker, but once mack's older brother mason turned four, and they found out mack was on the way, her mother took up a cleaning job, so the household had more money and everyone could remain properly clothed and fed.
mack was born on the eve of the 27th day of october, and though she was unplanned, she was loved dearly. though she lived in a house that was nowhere near anything like a palace, she was treated like a princess, just as her brother was treated like a prince. they just couldn't always get what they wanted, and this shaped who mackenzie is today.
knowing she had to work hard, mack always strove for excellence. she did well in her classes, she participated and won in most sports and athletics, and when she was old enough, she even began to help her father out in the garage, just like her brother did.
mackenzie had every intention of graduating at the top of the class, so that she may get a scholarship to some good ivy league school to pursue a career in journalism, but the kind of education she was receiving just wasn't up to the mark. the public school she went to had bad conditions to begin with, and teachers who slacked off more than the students.
an issue arose when the building that was being constructed beside her school caused a few problems. her school was almost torn down completely, and all the students had been relocated to other public schools, since not many others could afford attending private schools.
the person behind the destruction tried to save face by offering one lucky student a fully paid scholarship to a very prestigious private school, and mackenzie took the cake, by sheer luck. she knew about the school, and she knew about the kind of snobby people that attended. while that part wasn't ideal, mack also knew that she would reap a lot of benefits by going to such a reputed school, so obviously, she was also thrilled.
she just didn't realise that she was also in for a world of drama.

eli had covered up the overdose caused death of his wife, maria, and continued on with his and rory's life. to this day rory only knows of his mother's passing as unexpected due to underlying health issues. within six months of maria's death eli remaried to his current wife, anna, who also came along with her daughter, charlotte, who is the same age as rory. a house of two had quickly turned into a house of four all in a year of maria's death.
