The Kingdom of Mirim

  • (A) Farmlands: The farmlands is the place a majority of the Kingdom's produce is grown. Livestock and poultry are also raised here. The farmlands are outside of the kingdom wall, though the farmers do have permission to come and go as they please so long as they do not raise suspicion among the gate attendants and guards.

  • (B) Lemongrass: A pleasant name for a... less than ideal neighborhood. Lemongrass is a run-down area. Many of the folks who live here struggle to live their lives in any sort of comfort. Residents of Lemongrass often struggle to get through the gates and into the Kingdom for provisions. They are often given a difficult time by the gate-keepers and guards. This is not only due to their status but also to the fact that the neighborhood borders Warton Range. As much as they hate it, the folks of Lemongrass are often grouped with those of Warton Range, leading folks to assume that they too are "Bad apples."

  • (C) Maple Hill: A neighborhood for the hoity-toity, Maple Hill borders the castle gates. This is where the folks who are well-off often reside.

  • (D) Florien: Florien is where a majority of folks in Mirim live. This location is perfect for those who want to live in a nice home that is not ridiculously expensive. While crowded, the houses and apartments are decent. Many folks like to decorate their properties and balconies with flowers and tapestries. This location can be noisy even at night, due to how many folks live there.

  • (E) Rosin Corner: Rosin Corner has a median price range. This is also generally a safe place to live.

  • (F) Swordfish Point: This is the hub of the fishing and trading industry, Large boats are always taking up space in the harbor. The locals thrive off of this industry. Additionally, there are plenty of booths in this neighborhood that offer bounties of the sea. Be advised, walking through here without paying attention could lead to getting a fish thrown into one's head, as the merchants are often tossing fish to one another from opposite sides of the street.

  • (G) West End: One of the more expensive places to live in Mirim, West End sits upon the ocean shore. The shoreline is riddled with seashells, starfish, hermit crabs, driftwood, and many other fun things. This is a great place to live if one enjoys spending a lot of time in the water or sand. While much of the shoreline resides on private property, there are some sections that are open to the public.

  • (H) Elkins Row: This neighborhood sits across from Center Hall. This location is generally very safe. However, due to its location, it can become crowded during the busier times of the day.

  • (I) Vardi Hill: Vardi Hill is a safe and rather inexpensive place to live. It is often referred to as "The Arts District" because many of the folks who live there are of the creative sort. It is not uncommon to see folks painting outside their homes, or to hear beautiful music coming from within the buildings.

  • (J) Kalihina Center: Kalihina is a great location for folks who do not want to spend a lot of money starting out in Mirim. The housing here is very affordable and well-maintained. It has a decent level of safety as well and therefore is great for families.

  • (K) Lanesboro: This is a neighborhood that is mostly filled with businesses. However, it is not uncommon for folks to live above their businesses. This area is very safe but is often incredibly crowded during lunch and dinner time.

  • (L) Balta: Balta is generally a location that many folks choose to avoid. There are many roughed-up folks in the area. It is advised to stay inside at night in this particular neighborhood.

  • (M) East End: The cost of living in the East End is higher than Kalihina. However, the two neighborhoods are quite similar. The West End sits atop (and on the sides) of Evergreen Hill. This location offers a bird's-eye view of a vast majority of the kingdom.

  • (N) Mud Bay: Mud Bay is known to be a rough neighborhood. It is home to folks who are simply trying to get by. Most folks who live in Mud Bay work in very physically demanding occupations. The buildings are quite run-down, but generally still safe enough to live in. The neighborhood itself is generally safe as well, so long as folks don't wander too close to the docks when a storm picks up. This is the end of the Kingdom that gets hit the hardest during storms.

  • (O) Garwood Forest: The forest sits between Mirim and the Divide. Garwood sprawls across countless miles. While the forest is generally safe during the day time it can be incredibly dangerous at night. It is advised to be out before sunset. Guards patrol the area like hawks, and if they don't find stragglers someone (or something) else will.

  • (P) Warton Range: This is another neighborhood that sits outside the Kingdom wall. Folks who reside in this location are often refused entrance to the city. It is not uncommon for them to be thrown around by the guards. Warton Range is a place where residents are frequently tossed after causing too much trouble within the city walls. There is often trouble and it is not safe to wander the streets at night if one does not know how to fend for themselves.

  • The Castle: The castle is four stories high with an in-ground level as well. It is very well maintained with beautiful landscaping and stables. The front gate is heavily guarded.

  • Center Hall: Center Hall is where business can be taken care of. Meetings are often held here, as well as community events.

  • Eagle's Shore: Eagle's shore is the part of the ocean that runs along Mirim. There is plenty of food to be caught here, or perhaps if you're lucky you may even find a pearl.

The World

The World

Mirim

  • King: Jero.
  • Otherfolk Laws: Banned.
  • The Kingdom of Mirim is prosperous land. It has fields of wheat, a port for docking fishing and trading ships, art shops, bakeries, cafes, and farms-a-plenty for raising cattle and other animals. Mirim is a powerful kingdom that prides itself on its success in the trading industry. A majority of the kingdom’s population is made up of humans. The biggest industries in Mirim are farming, fishing, and trading.

Ewrellia

  • King: Marcus
  • Otherfolk Laws: Allowed to reside here, but with restrictions.
  • Sitting directly across the channel of Eagle Shore from Mirim is the island of Ewrellia. It takes two weeks aboard a ship to travel from Ewrellia to Mirim. The calmness of the channel allows for easy travel between the two land, which allows the kingdoms to participate in trades with one another. Like Mirim, Ewrellia has its own set of problems. Otherfolk have a bit more freedom here, but the challenges mostly lay in territorial conflicts between various settlements. The city that surrounds the castle remains rather peaceful. However, the King Arlan has been growing increasingly impatient with the conflicts that are happening elsewhere in Ewrellia. It is not unheard of for folks from the most untouched areas of Ewrellia to immigrate to Mirim in search of asylum.

Ostello

  • King: Harold
  • Otherfolk laws: Allowed to reside here, but must serve in the King's military. No passing through for non-resident Otherfolk (punishable offence).
  • Land wise, Ostello is the largest kingdom on the continent with Eastwind being the second. They are a powerful Kingdom that pushes the others around with its size. King Harold of Ostello has often shown favoritism towards Mirim (although it is rumored that he has no patience for King Jero). King Harold invites Otherfolk to his Kingdom with open arms, however, there is a catch. Any Otherfolk that wishes to reside in Ostello must serve under the king in his military. This has caused many Otherfolk in Ostello to continue west to the other Kingdoms. Those fleeing from Mirim must travel through Ostello to get to Korillo and Eastwind. However, traveling through Ostello as a non-resident is a crime and many are captured and forced to work for Ostello as punishment. But hey, it's better than being dead, right? Maybe.

  • Many "Ostellans" (as the citizens are called) make their living by farming. Ostello's biggest exports are dyed fabrics, gemstones, clothing, food items, and weapons.

Korillo
  • King: Briar
  • Otherfolk Laws: Allowed to reside here.
  • Korillo is home to a very rugged assortment of folks. Life in the rocky mountains is not always easy. With the tallest mountains of all Kingdoms on one side, and the open ocean on the other, Korillo is a "storm sandwich." Will they have a mudslide today? How about a landside or earthquake? Oh, maybe a hurricane instead! Maybe everything all at once! Storms are so prevalent here that generations of folks have been raised in the practice of "Storm Calling" which equips them with the necessary tools and information to better predict oncoming disasters.

  • Korillo maintains a laid-back approach to Otherfolk. If a person can survive in their kingdom then they have earned their stay (so long as they do not cause trouble of course). "Korillans" as the citizens are called, often welcome Otherfolk that have abilities that may help them combat the weather. Those with inhuman amounts of strength are especially welcome, as they can help during recuse efforts and rebuilding after mudslides and other events. Otherfolk who help the human Korillians are often highly revered.

  • Korillo's biggest industry and export a shellfish known as the Pearly Shell Oyster. This oyster only lives off the coast of Korillo. It is a staple food in the diet of Korillans, but they also export it for large sums of money as it is considered a delicacy in other kingdoms.

  • King Briar of Korillo has sent one of his best guards to Mirim with the Prince/Princess of Eastwind in an effort to help his biggest allies seek information from King Jero.

Eastwind
  • King: Elliot
  • Otherfolk laws: Allowed to reside here.
  • Eastwind is a Kingdom located on the North Western side of the continent. Eastwind was named after the strong winds that blow across its plains from the East. The plains are a lush habitat that is perfect for farming. The residents of Eastwind grow a variety of crops but their biggest export is the Sunstone Berry. Sunstone berries can be made into jams, juices, dessert toppings and so much more. In addition to crops, they also raise livestock. Eastwind is known for the high quality horses that are born, raised, and trained in their Kingdom. Residents raise their own horses, but many non-residents travel from near and far to spend large sums of money on these horses which are known as "Horses of the Eastwind Plains" (Or "HEP's for short). These horses are tall with long legs, strong necks, beautiful manes and tails, bold and brave temperaments, intelligence, and speed. Their strength and endurance make them the ideal farm horse and long-distance mount.

  • The Kingdom of Eastwind as a whole has an open mind toward Otherfolk. They welcome Others into their lands with open arms. The Humans and Otherfolk have lived among one-another peacefully for years. The King of Eastwind (King Elliot) is disgusted by King Jero's new law. As a result he has sent his only child to Mirim for observation. The Prince/Princess (player's choice) will be a a guest at the castle and gather information for their father. King Elliot's goal is to help liberate the Otherfolk, while pretending that he is interested in marrying his son/daughter off to Jero's own son/daughter.
Asmique

  • King:
  • Otherfolk Laws: Banned
  • Asmique lies on an island south of the main continent. Coastal with a warm climate, Asmique is similar in architecture to modern Morocco. It is known for art, spices, and beautiful beaches for tourism. It's a popular destination for nobles and commonfolk alike, with an easy journey through the seas towards it, and gorgeous lands. Because it caters to all classes as clientele, there are high-end resorts and family-run bed and breakfasts.
  • It is one of the earliest countries to ban otherfolk from its borders, banning anyone non-human hundreds of years ago in a violent, bloody upheaval. Most of the violence was perpetrated by regular citizens, not the military, and the land remembers the bloodshed. It is not something the younger generation is proud of admitting to, although they wouldn't undo the actions of their ancestors. It is incredibly dangerous to be otherfolk in Asmique due to this history, as there are still fanatics that adhere to the old ways. Discovery, at best, is banishment. Usually, it's execution.

The North
  • Safety warning!: Humans almost always killed on sight.
  • "The Shadowed North," "The North Tribes," or simply “The North,” lies to the North of Mirim. Any human in their right mind would dare not cross its boundaries. The Shadowed North houses “Otherfolk,” some of whom once lived within Mirim. It is a land without empathy, hosting many habitats and beings. Desolate deserts, bare tundra, rolling hills of poisonous plants, rainforests filled with venomous creatures, and hundreds of miles of toxic swamps are just a few things that make this land unique and unforgiving. Chances are if you can think of it, The Shadowed North has it.

The Canyon
  • Safety warning!: High risk location.
  • The canyon or “divide” runs along the borders of Mirim, Ostello, and Eastwind. The section of the canyon that borders Mirim is the most popular location to cross because it is the most narrow. However, it still takes an entire week to traverse. Regardless of Mirim’s laws, this is the least dangerous section of the canyon. Even the most well-versed travelers consider the other sections “impossible” to cross. This is solely due to environmental factors on the North side of the canyon. Toxic swamps and poisonous natural gases are more common in these areas. As well as predatory beasts, both animal and otherfolk.

The Drunken Crow
Location: Florien, about three blocks from the castle gates.
Services: The Drunken Crow is a bar owned and ran by a burly man named Boris. This business offers alcoholic beverages, pool tables, and pub-style foods. Live entertainment is often provided on most nights. Boris hires various performers who specialize in a variety of entertainment. This bar offers patrons a high chance of spotting Prince Emory. Between the well-known performances and the sightings of the prince, The Drunken Crow is a rather popular destination in Mirim for those who enjoy a drink. It is also popular among tourists.

O W N E R
Boris
Age: 45.
Occupation: Owner of the Drunken Crow.
Summary: Boris has owned and worked at his bar since he was twenty-seven years old. He is a tall man with a "ripped" build and a curly mustache. While he is incredibly friendly and well-loved by most bar-goers, Boris will not hesitate to (literally) throw someone out of his bar if they are causing trouble. Boris loves to support local talent and will often hire performers to do shows in his bar.

The Lost Bird Bookstore
Owner/Employee: Melinda (NPC).
Location: Lanesboro.
Services: The Lost Bird provides residents of Mirim with the newest releases in written works, as well as the classics of course. The owner, Melinda, is a short woman with short graying black curly hair and a set of rather large glasses. She walks hunched over with a cane but that never stops her from working every single day. Melinda hires various folks to help her in her shop and she is also known for donating older books to the hospital and to those who may not be able to afford buying one.

The Daily Grind

Owner/Employee: Cordelia (NPC).
Location: Lanesboro.
Services: The Daily Grind is a cafe that serves tea, coffee, and espresso-based beverages. They also offer pastries that are made fresh in the store during the early hours of the morning. At the end of the day any leftover pastries are donated to those in need. Savannah is the full time barista and often works overtime. A box of board games sits on one of the tables and one of the walls has a bookshelf on it that is lined with literature and artwork. The walls are also covered with artwork done by the residents of Mirim. Some of the artwork is for sale while others are borrowed and rotated, always offering something new to see. A large charcoal picture of a robin and her nest of chicks hangs on the wall behind the counter, a gift from Vyrik to the owner of the shop.

Cordelia

Age: 26.
Occupation: Barista at The Daily Grind.
Summary: Bubbly and outgoing, Savannah will always offer customers a smile when they come into her shop. It doesn't matter if they saunter in at 5:00am or 12:00pm, they will always be met with cheer. Cordelia may not be the only barista at the coffee shop, but she is one of the customer's favorites. It isn't unheard of for her to give someone a free drink if she thinks they could use it or if she sees that they may not be able to afford their usual that day. Vyrik is a frequenter of the coffee shop and he does occasionally work on projects there.

Winston's Sunflower Farm

Owner/Employee: Winston (NPC).
Location: Farmlands.
Services: Like many of the farmers in Mirim, Winston offers various kinds of produce to residents. He sells everything from chicken and duck eggs to sheep's wool. However, he is best known for his sunflower seeds. Almost all of Mirim's sunflower seeds are produced at Winston's farm, where he lives with his wife (Nancy). The countless rolling acres of sunflowers offer a beautiful visual to those living in Mirim and it isn't uncommon for folks to have picnics near the farm or to stop by simply to admire the flowers. The road that traverses through the farm is a throughway for those living at the other end of the farmlands and is a favorite route for many to take.

The Sapphire Ledges

Location: Farmlands.
Details: Across from the main path that stretches through the Farmlands lays the Sapphire Ledges. These ledges are absolutely breathtaking. They climb several hundred feet above the rocky and turbulent waters below. Upon strolling five more miles down the coastline, a path can be reached that leads to a beach below the cliffs. The path itself is steep and slipping from it almost always leads to tragic results. Upon reaching the bottom of the path, one is rewarded with an amazing view. Looking up, the cragged cliffs offer an ominous beauty. Looking towards the ocean, one can catch sight of the gorgeous blue waves (and possibly some sea animals!) The beach is relatively safe during low tide if one doesn't swim too close to the white-waters that crash into the cliffs, or get pulled further out into the ocean by the riptides. However, make sure to be back up the path by the time high-tide comes rolling around again, or else the results will be catastrophic.

The Hidden Falls

Location: Garwood Forest.
Details: The Hidden Falls in Garwood Forest lay six miles from the main path. The entrance to the location is hidden behind vines that shroud the opening to a small cave. Once through the cave, one will step out into a ring of waterfalls. Some of the falls lay far above while others are ground level. Downed trees act as bridges and can be used to travel from one side of the pools to the other. It is in these (and only these pools) that the Winboe Fish makes it's home.

The Winboe Fish ranges from three inches to one foot long, with the ancient ones being up to four feet. They are translucent, allowing for some of the inner organs to be seen. Their scales can range in color but are most commonly various shades of blue. At night, if the moon shines bright enough, these fish will let off a light glow. Their scales and inner organs hold powerful healing elements and are said to be capable of healing even the worst ailments. They are also a popular element used in many anti-venoms and detoxes. As a result of this, these fish have been eradicated from all of their other habitats due to over-fishing. The Winboe Fish is now endangered and can only be found in the Hidden Falls. Several of these fish are ancient, having lived for over a century now.

Peter
Age: 14.
Species: Human.
Occupation: Stable boy.
Summary: Peter is a scrawny redheaded stable boy who works for Morgan in the Royal Stables. He is clumsy and forgetful, often needing reminders from his boss. While not exactly lazy, the boy does slack off. This gets on Morgan's nerves a majority of the time. While others have suggested firing the boy, Morgan has been trying his best to help him improve. In truth, Peter is just unsure of himself and lacks self-confidence.

Frederick

Age: 58.
Species: Human.
Occupation: Guard.
Summary: Frederick has served his kingdom for the majority of the long life that he has lived. At first, he stood with Jero. However, as the years rolled on he grew tired of the King's ways. After all, guards see many things that the royalty do not. He now lives a life of "being done with that s**t." Once a guard who accompanied Jero everywhere, he has retired to patrolling the city at night. He is often in charge of the other guards who patrol the West End. For now, he simply continues to serve his kingdom by keeping the common folk safe at night. Frederick hopes to retire soon, as he is simply growing increasingly tired... (especially with Jero's bullshit in particular). It isn't uncommon to find him at the Drunken Crow at odd hours of the night, drinking away the hours and telling stories with friends.

Bernard

Age: 26.
Species: Human.
Occupation: Guard.
Summary: Bernard is a guard who often patrols the streets of Balta late at night. He is a bold man with a rude attitude and often slacks in his work, favoring chatting with women instead. Bernard doesn't think highly at all of the residents in the neighborhood he patrols. In fact, he is known to be over-the-top in his work. If he's not slacking than he's going out of his way to cause trouble with the lower class residents.

Wynvar

Age: 28.
Species: Selkie.
Occupation: Dock worker.
Summary: Wynvar is a very well-known resident of Mirim. He is witty, clever, and oh so very charming. Like Morgan, he was born in the ocean and that is where he belongs. However, Wynvar has always been fascinated by the two-legged folks who lived on land. Being a selkie, he was able to cast off his seal skin and join those on the land. This was something he did often. As he grew older, he took to seeking companionship from "unsatisfied women." It was during one of these ventures that his sealskin was stolen from where he had hidden it. Without his skin, he has been unable to return the ocean and has been stuck on land for seven years now. Wynvar lives in Swordfish Point and works at the fish market. When he's not working he can be found at various bars, wooing the ladies. He and Morgan knew one-another as children. Chances are, if someone is lonely, Wynvar won't pass up the opportunity to keep them company in front of a nice cozy fireplace.

Randolph

Age: 47.
Species: Faun.
Occupation: Laborer/Potions maker.
Summary: Randolph lives in Lemongrass. He makes an income by doing various tasks for folks in the area, as well as crafting potions, glamors, and medicinal products. He will occasionally find his way in through the city gates for extra provisions. Randolph has a calm and gentle demeanor. It isn't uncommon to see him lending a hand to those in need.
