Josephine was perching on the windowsill as the sun came up the morning of her first day at WDU. For fear of tripping and falling on her face, she hadn't dared attend the freshmen after party, even though it was for her and her fellow freshmen. She was fairly sure at least some of the people at this school were nice, but then, she'd also thought her older sister was nice. That had turned out well.
With a tiny sigh, Jolie took out her phone and turned it on. Her nephew, Quincy, was her phone's background, and seeing a picture of him made her even more homesick. Too bad she wasn't able to bring him with her. Her parents had barely any time to take care of him. She could only hope that they would manage until the first break from school.
As the sun started rising above the horizon, Jolie supposed that she would have to actually get ready for the day. She dressed quickly, being careful not to disturb her roommates. It was bad enough she was nervous around every new person she met; she didn't want the people she was living with to hate her for waking them up. That would be the absolute worst.
Once she emerged from the dorms into the sunshine, Jolie had the sudden urge to dance. It was such a beautiful day; why wouldn't she want to celebrate it? But perhaps that was the "gypsy" blood in her singing.
Peering around, Jolie quickly made her way towards the theater, where she was sure to find some privacy so early in the morning. But instead of going inside, she stayed at the back of the building, hopefully hidden by some trees. Taking a deep breath, she started to twirl, moving to a melody that played inside her head. For a moment, she was a child again, dancing with her older sister and her mother as her father tapped out a beat on his tambourine. A soft smile came her face as she twirled, for it was only when she danced that she was truly graceful.
Maybe today wouldn't be so bad after all.
