Haruhi Suzumiya
An Adorable Entity
The more they stay the same.
Around 2050, the world wasn't doing so well. Well, it was, until mutations broke out. Fantasy-like races, like those written into fantasy worlds before (Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, etc.) began to appear. About fifteen of these mutations existed, and each one was uniform with about another billion others.
Around this time, the Earth's population was 16 billion - And humans were only 1 billion of those, thanks to the mutations.
Since many of the 'mutated' people (Now called races) had great distaste for each other at first, they decided to send one another off to various locations on the Earth. Rather than one's origin as a human dictating where they lived, their race dictated where they lived. The races moved around a few times, but most stayed in the same general area. The most well-known place that functioned as a race's base of operations was the unmutated humans, who set up in the United Kingdom.
Before long, wars broke out. People started fighting over resources - Eventually, those who lacked resources got what they needed, and while some thrived this way, many died. The casualties for each race was almost the same - Over about 200 years, each race was decimated from 1 billion to 5 million.
People decided that a line needed to be drawn somewhere, so they made a grand effort to stop things - Every man, woman and child of every race was moved to the United Kingdom, the hospitable and well-off of all the lands. All resources were taken and pooled into one large amount in the hopes that the races would be able to survive with one another if they worked together, but before long people grew hate for one another again.
The humans remained dominant in what they considered their land, and as the other races broke off into different flags, they returned to being the Human Empire. The Elven Dominion rose, and with it the Light Elves took the Dark Elves and Halflings under their wing. The Orcs and Dwarves rose as the Order of Machina. The Vampires and Werewolves joined bitterly as one to become the Pact of Dawn. Less prominent races tended to side with the existing armies, though independent forces like the Human Empire existed, albeit in much smaller forms.
The United Kingdom had divided into four pieces: The Center, where the human capital and most of the nobles lived, The North, where the Elven Trio (Light Elves, Dark Elves and Halflings) had set their homes up, the Southwest, where the Order of Machina had developed an industrial land, and the Southeast, where the sun almost never shone and the Pact of Dawn thrived. Would one race become dominant? Would one alliance become dominant? Or would they struggle weakly for power for all eternity?
The future lies in wait of an answer.
