The Long Feng School for Gifted Yongsters (Ocelotish and Kahlan Crain)

Ocelotish

New Member
A 1x1 roleplay for @Ocelotish and @Kahlan Crain.

This RP takes place in an alternate universe. In this setting, bending is see as powerful and dangerous and benders with any ability are selected out to attend a specialized school. Most are aware that these schools are a way to monitor and control benders.

It is not a large school. At most it could house 100 benders, but it's current enrollment is just under 50 students.

Kind of a weird angle, but this is sort of how I'm picturing it.

Katara walked up to the wrought iron fence of her new school. She took a deep breath. After years of trying, here she was! Long Feng's Academy, the premiere bending school. She had heard rumors that this is where the children of the social elite went.

The young waterbender tugged on her navy skirt, which had been a little rumpled on her flight over. She had to make a good impression. She checked to make sure her blue pendant was properly centered, then she took a deep breath, and opened the door. While it wasn't exactly Hogwarts, she was impressed. She put a hand up against some of the woodwork. This was beautiful.

Katara gripped the handle of her sky blue suitcase, a congratulations gift from her father and brother. She had been told than a upperclassman would show her around the school, but she wasn't sure where she was supposed to meet them. She would head to the administrative offices, but she didn't know where those were either. Suddenly she felt extremely out of place and could have sworn that everyone was looking at her: she didn't belong here. She scooted her suitcase behind her legs a little, hoping to hide the incriminating bag.

Zuko held a small, torn piece of paper in his hand. A loud, aggravated sigh escaped his lips as he hung his head back to look up at the open sky. He stood in the middle of the courtyard, wasting as much time as possible. He didn't want to drag a new student around this god-forsaken campus. It was a pain just being forced to help with preparing the files for the newcomers, but having to show one of them around all day was just torture. Zuko looked down at the crinkled paper in his fist. The paper had the picture and name of the student that he was suppose to meet up with at the entrance of the school. A girl. Brown haired, water bending girl. Of all the students he was given, it had to be a water bender.

"Why couldn't I at least get a fire bender. Damn it.." Zuko spoke to the open air before he dragged his feet towards the entrance.

'God this girl sticks out like a sore thumb,' Zuko thought as he stared at the nervous girl in front of him. Katara, according to the piece of paper he was given. With a snap of his fingers, the piece of paper caught fire and fell to the ground where he stomped it out.

"Katara," Zuko said as he watched the girl for a reaction. "I'm your... guide," he said hesitantly, not wanting to take on the new student.

Katara's eyes flicked to the piece of paper and widened.

As soon as he finished the words just started pouring out of her mouth, "You're a firebender!?" she gasped, "I've never actually seen a firebender before! That was incredible! Did you learn how to do that here?" Sure, she had seen more impressive firebending on TV, but to just watch someone burn something in their hands was amazing. People on TV did all sort of impossible things, this young man on the other hand... She looked up at him, but her eyes drifted instantly to his scar.

Quickly she looked back to his eyes, "I mean, sorry, yes, I'm Katara! Waterbender and a sophomore," she held out her hand. Great first impression, Katara.

A low grumble came from his lips as he glared at the babbling girl. With a roll of his eyes, he brought his right hand up to his face, in clear distress of the current events. Pulling his hands back to glide through his hair, he lets out a heavy sigh. His body leaned against the nearest pillar. His energy level was too low to bother about his posture.

"Great... A talker." Zuko stated, not caring if the girl heard him or not. He looked down onto the girl, who's hand was stretched out towards him. With all the energy he could muster, he took his body off the pillar and turned to walk down the hall.

"Keep up. If you get lost, I won't go looking for you," Zuko stated, his lack of enthusiasm evident in his tone of voice. Zuko led them down the first hallway from the entrance down to the open courtyard. "Here's the courtyard. The hallway you were just down is the entrance. You won't be walking back there from now on. Consider this to be the front of the school because you won't be stepping out those door again for a long time." Zuko paused near the center of the courtyard, beside the small fountain with carving that symbolized each element of bending. This courtyard was fairly small, only a few dozen benches with shrubberies and potted plants. The courtyard was glowing in natural light, which made it the meeting spot for most earth benders.

"Down the north hall, you'll get the classrooms. They are pretty self-explanatory. If you have a class in room 34, find it. Shockingly, it will be between room 33 and 35. An idiot could find there way around there," Zuko stated as he pointed in the direction of the halls. "You go down the halls to the right, you get the social halls. Many of you water benders and other folk hang out there. It's also the cafeteria. And to the left, you have your dorms. You're separated by element, then subgroup. Figure that out on your own time. Got it?"

Katara winced. Okay, he hated her. She might have deserved it for looking at his scar, but she could make it up to him. Okay, don't talk too much was step one. She watched him as he walked, he was tall and thin, but in a good way: slender, not gawky. Still, she could tell he harbored a lot of strength too.

"I'll keep up!" she assured him, though she had to walk at almost a jog to keep pace. He had longer legs and she could tell he wouldn't be doing her any favors.

"The fountain is amazing!" she gushed. Katara pulled a globe of water from the fountain and swirled it around once. Her movement was less than fluid, but she was able to move it about before she returned it to the fountain. She smiled up at him, hoping that it might impress him.

"Uhh, yeah, I've got it. I heard that there aren't a ton of waterbenders here. Do you know the exact number? What's a subgroup?" She looked up at him with a nervous smile on her face. Hopefully she wasn't annoying him too much.

The annoying sounds of the girl's voice followed him as he moved around. Zuko regretted getting caught vandalizing the school's cafeteria last week, fully knowing that he wouldn't have gotten himself stuff dragging a new kids around today if he wasn't caught. Zuko sighed as he put a hand over his scar for a moment before running his fingers through his hair. Zuko's attention went to the floating water coming from the fountain. He laughed, "You call that water bending! You have a lot of work ahead of you..." Zuko rolled his eyes as he leaned back against the rim of the fountain. "You water benders have the easiest element, and yet so many of you can't control it. It's pathetic."

He got up from the fountain and walked towards the dorm halls. "You newbies are always so excited about coming to a school like this. You expect that you'll all become master benders. None of you realize that your here because no one outside wants to be around people with bending power. Your naivety will be your downfall." Zuko said as they came up to a brown door with a water tribe symbol in the center. "You'll find the female, first year, water bending dorm through there. That will be your subgroup. Find an older water bender to show you around. Other benders aren't allowed to go into different element areas. Not like any of us want to..."

Zuko lifted his left arm and looked at his watch. A grumble escaped his lips as he leaned his head back. "Great.. Only three-thirty..... Go up and get settled in your room. I have to show you around the dining halls around five. So meet me back here at four-forty-five. If you're not here at that time exactly, I'm leaving you. I don't have time to wait around if you get lost."
