The List of Roleplay Creators

Grey

Dialectical Hermeticist
Alrighty folks, I had an idea both fun and informative: GM Sheets!

Which is, you might wonder? A short bio in the guise of a character sheet about each of our resident GMs, DMs, STs, AJs, Facilitators, Historians, MMs or whatever else your preferred moniker for the person wot runs the game.

This way, new members and those unfamiliar with a particular GM may take a look and decide whether or not they'd like to play with that person. For example, I tend towards darker games - something not always evident from the Our Roleplay thread and sometimes I can't help but let it bleed into a lighter game. So, without further ado, here's the proposed template which you may alter as you like, followed by my own wee profile.

Name: This one should be obvious.

Preferred Systems: List of systems you like to use, or that you prefer no system at all.

Preferred Genres: Genres you like you like to run games in.

Style: For fun, how would you describe your GMing style?

Alignment: Also just for fun, choices like Noble Bright or Neutral Bastard.

Tropes Employed: Might need a bit of legwork, but what tropes are you likely to use, avert, invert, or subvert most?

Caveats: Things you feel someone should really be aware of when going into a game with you.

Preferred Systems: Freeform, Custom

Preferred Genres: Fantasy, Modern, Horror

Style: Accent on the story, background and characters. Quality writing. Deep immersion into the world.

Alignment: Neutral Bright (an objective perspective, but tipped in favor of the players)

Tropes Employed:

- Nothing Is Invincible

- There Is More Than Meets The Eye

- Luck Favors The Daring

Caveats: I am somewhat of a perfectionist and expect dedication from my players.

Name: Thorn

Preferred Systems: In order: Exalted, L5R, nWoD, BESM, oWoD, D&D 3.5, Scion, 7th Sea, and D&D 4th. Looking into exploring Dark Heresy, Mutants & Masterminds, Aberrant, and Fireborn

Preferred Genres: Epic Fantasy, Sci-fi, Horror, and regular experimentations with new genres

Style: Everything is negotiable within reason, often explores new or innovative GMing techniques

Alignment: Optimisticly Hopeful

Tropes Employed:

- Coming soon

Caveats: -Rules lawyering is okay OUTSIDE of the game

-Realistic emotions > Solid Strategy

-Real life happens, to both players and ST. Plan accordingly and be patient.

-Talking with me outside of the game is the surest way to make sure I make cool stuff happen in-game.

Name: Retrocity

Preferred Systems: Exalted, Scion, Mutants and Mastermind 2e and 3e , Pathfinder, Nwod (Mages)

Preferred Genres: Fantasy, Superheroes, Modern, Sci fi

Style: Heroic with SFX

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Tropes Employed:

-All your basestar are belong to us

-Cain and Abel

-Deus Ex Machina

-Rage Against the Heavens

-Macross Missile Massacre

-The Main Characters do Everything

Caveats:

-I prefer players telling me what they want out of the game and work toward that goal. It doesn't mean if you ask for a wishing well I will give it to you...but might be an end goal for your character and will do my best to include in the story.

Name: Silvertongued

Preferred Systems: nWoD, L5R, Shadowrun, DnD 3.5/Pathfinder, Strange Times, Freeform, occasional homebrew

Preferred Genres: Modern/Traditional/Random Fantasy, Soft/Hard Science Fiction, Historical/Modern Supernatural

Style: Building to epic, some prose, interacting characters, everything is reasonable

Alignment: Noble Bastard.

Tropes Employed:

- Cain and Able

- For every action, there is a reaction

- Rule of Cool

Probably more, but I'm not up to date on my tropes...

Caveats: I thrive on feedback. Talk to me out of game to help with character arcs, and I'll see if I can make it happen. I expect somewhat dedication to an RP, and I dislike OOC violation of Wheaton's Law, but in character, go for it if you want.

Name: Alice or some derivative of that.

Preferred Systems: Black Crusade/Only War (I like the other 40K games, but system wise I like those), Exalted and nWoD

Preferred Genres: Typically anything with a preference towards Modern or further on.

Style: I...uh. I would say...loose. Things can get silly but I've been told I do good with descriptions and can make some really fun adventures. Most games I run tend to be very sandboxish (out of a crippling rail road fear)

Alignment: Forgiving Nightmare Fuel

Tropes Employed:

Bazaar of the Bizarre

Black and Gray Morality

Crapsack World

Wretched Hive

Nightmare Fuel

Chekovs Gun Used and Averted

There's honestly a lot more but I can't think of them unfortunately. TVtropes is too obscure.

Caveats:

- NPCs you employ will be competent according to their in-game existence. If you put a lot of effort to get top knotch security, you'll have it. You hire a homeless guy to watch your house...you gonna get robbed.

- There is a world with a lot of people in it. Some will be weaker in status/power, others won't be. Don't expect to be the biggest fish.

- Expect to eventually have the option/ability to become the biggest fish if you want.

- I enjoy tempting PCs far and away too much >_>

- Expect nightmare fuel, somewhere.

Name: Chained Divinity

Preferred Systems:
DnD (of both the 3E and 4E versions), and Exalted are the only two(/three) gaming systems I know, so...

Preferred Genres: Fantasy is fun. Sci-fi is fun occasionally. Beyond that I do whatever, though of late I'm having loads of fun taking and destroying conventional fairy-tale stuff.

Style: If any of you have ever read any of IDW's books centered around Adric Fell, my games are like Adric's first entry into the feywild (the flashback), all the time.

Alignment: Arcade Good.

Tropes Employed:

Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! (A note on this one--the majority of even the worlds I make run on this trope. :D )

Evil Versus Evil

Our Monsters are Different

Grey and Gray Morality

Caveats:

Currently, I've only begun to run games, so this is all kind of hypothetical.

Name: CW, C-Dub, Sideris, That Bastard, etc.

Preferred Systems: Exalted, New World of Darkness, Old World of Darkness (rusty, though, been some years), Earthdawn, Blue Planet,

Preferred Genres: Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi (criminally underused), Cyberpunk, Modern.

Style: Emergent gameplay with a twist of sandbox OR character-focused OR Myth Arc

Alignment: Neutral Bastard. At one time, Chaotic Evil Bastard ("Roleplaying is one man's war against a group of wandering heroes.")

Tropes Employed: Blame Grey for the tidal wave of Tropes incoming.

-Nothing Is Scarier

-Humanoid Abomination

-Eldritch Abomination/Location

-Genius Loci

-Arc Words

-Myth Arc

-Cosmic Horror Story

-High-Octane Nightmare Fuel

-Body Horror

-Light Is Not Good

-Don't Go Into The Woods

-The Wild Hunt

-Occult Detective

-Stronger With Age

...I'll stop myself here.

Caveats: Have fun. Nothing is true, everything is permitted (except twinking, really gets on my tits).

Name: Alex

Preferred Systems: WoD, nWoD, Crucible, Fate.

Preferred Genres: A mix of modern, fantasy or horror. Occasionally something super whimsical or silly, should the idea really grab me. I polarise between gung ho and grimdark.

Style: I'm a fan of prologues and asides. I can run a sandbox, or something tightly plotted, depending on whether I've had an idea I desperately want to share, or whether or not I would like to see what my players come up with. Good communication before char gen about this is paramount.

Alignment: The Path of Equity

Tropes Employed:

I avoid the hell out of Bolt of Divine Retribution, and Rocks Fall and Everyone Dies; actions always have consequences, just not necessarily what you might think, so there will be no Anarchy Law whatsoever, with the Moral Event Horizon always out there.

Willing Suspension of Disbelief is paramount, and I have extreme Hybrid Overkill Avoidance. Too many times have I seen people create a snowflake because they cannot create an actually motivated or compelling character.

Do not ever assume the Facial Hair Law is in action.

I have never publicly admitted to using a Grudge Monster.

The Chaotic Stupid do not get invited to later games.

Phlebotinum is always a last resort....

Caveats: Who here has never role-played before? Come sit here next to me so I can hear you properly. You're probably going to be mostly confused at the beginning, with lots of questions. Ask those questions whenever they come up, and remember; we'll get through this together.

Name: Sarodinian

Preferred Systems: Exalted, Eclipse Phase, Willing to try others.

Preferred Genres: Hard Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Soft Sci-Fi, Horror, Epic

Style: Lazy Simulationist.

Alignment: Uncaring Bastard. Iron Fist in Velvet Glove.

Tropes Employed:

- Reality Ensues

-
Bread, Milk, Eggs, Squick

- Dark Is Not Evil

- Light Is Not Good

- Evil Powers Good People

- Hybrid Overkill Avoidance

- Knights Templar

- Ass Pull

- Dangerously Genre Savvy

- High-Octane Nightmare Fuel

- Anyone Can Die

- Well-Intentioned Extremist

- Throw It In

- Sure, Let's Go with That

- Rule of Cool

- Kudzu Plot

- Indy Ploy

Caveats:

The reason we're playing is to have fun.

Rules Lawyering goes both ways.

The game world is bigger than the protagonists.

Actions have consequences, and I tend to enforce them whenever is dramatically appropriate.

I'm prone to flights of whimsy.

Feedback drives me. I tend towards majorly character driven games, and tend to write the scenario to the characters I get.

IC conflict is separate from OOC conflict. The game thrives on the former, and dies on the latter. Act appropriately.

Reality Ensues is bolded there for a reason.

Music also drives me. I typically require theme music for character sheets and the like.

I'm willing to try most forms of Storytelling format. I'm most experienced with Play By Post, but I can do real-time chat and the like too.

I'm terrible at the following things: Creating balanced encounters, and creating NPCs. I tend to approach this stuff collaboratively as a result.

I'm also a very permissive Storyteller. Rule of Cool is also a big thing, so feel free to tell me your off the wall idea. Worst I'll do is say no and tell you why it wouldn't work in the game.

I'm also not psychic. If you want something, -tell me-.

I prefer collaborating with my players in terms of worldbuilding.

Name: Lotus

Preferred Systems: Exalted, Legends of the Wulin, M&M2, oWoD, and in a dire pinch, Pathfinder

Preferred Genres: Grey And Gray Morality, A Lighter Shade Of Black, God Is Inept, I Might Not Be Answering The Right Question, Did You Mean Literary Conceits, Or Where Books Would Be In A Barnes & Noble, #tagabuse

Style: Choose your own adventure stories, where some of the stories you don't choose will bite you in the ass for ignoring them.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. I will let you screw yourself. I will let you screw my plans. I am easily entertained.

Tropes Employed: ahahahha aha. ha. No, you can't make me browse obsessively through the entire list of tropes to sort all of them into yes and no piles. You could. But I'm not letting you. Instead, I will tell you brief stories.

Miguel contributed directly to the downfall of his hometown. It has been swallowed up by the dead, and he was forced to flee. He killed the farmer's daughter who thought she could exploit him for a ticket to the big city, and rode there himself on her horse. Now he hates horses. He cut a hole through a tent that was bigger on the inside, to escape from a fire, and the spatial distortion put him seventeen miles outside the perimeter that law enforcement had been closing around him.

Moon came from the same hometown, and doesn't yet know about his companion's role. He's some kind of investigative savant who taught himself thieving by studying the evidence that bumblers left behind until he could spot masters. When he escaped the zombies, it was on a slaving vessel that planned to sell him to the fair folk. When he escaped that, it was to wash up with mercenaries who were among thousands being recruited by a military power that ordinarily eschewed mercenaries completely. When he escaped the press-gang there, he wound up in Venice re-cast as a Dickensian Hellhole, being chased by law enforcement for trying to rescue...

Mistral was a fiscal savant, whose services as a skilled-but-indentured clerk brought every successive employer who bought her contract vast sums. The execution of most of her family members and the hunting party sent for her by the secret police of her homeland were a bit of a shocker. Her savvy booked the three of them a ride with a passing caravan outside the city, but it turned out to be half spies for her former employer, half of whom were also double agents spying on the other spies for rival nations. That really fell apart after Miguel blew up the caravan's supply of gunpowder to spite a woman who rejected his advances, and then she blamed the smurfs from underground, flew into a rage, and burned all the wagons with fires that left poop instead of ashes behind. Then things started to get weird.

I don't know what tropes I employ.

Caveats: Every action has a consequence. There will always be more than you can do. Faustian bargains is best bargains. The Word of God is always subject to interpretation.

Preferred Systems: nWoD or any of the subsystems but less likely to run the GMC update; Exalted 2.0; Legend of the Five Rings; Scion; M&M2 and 3; Savage Worlds. I also have other gaming books but I'm less keen on running those.

Preferred Genres: Any, although I'm likely to run a horror game, fantasy or action. Madness and insanity often fit a big role as well.

Style: Passive, i.e. I like to listen to my players for ideas.

Alignment: Passive neutral, or Neutral Pissed-off. Depends on the day.

Tropes Employed: Not much for tropes, but here are some things I tend to do:

Not what it seems:
Something is not what it appears to be. It runs deeper or is more complicated. That zombie outbreak is not just the work of a mad scientist; it is the work of a mad scientist who's work was funded by the government.

Everything for a reason: Things never happen randomly. That mad scientist who created a zombie virus at the behest of a government did not just do it for the money, he has some deeper personal reason. (The reason might not be that clear to me when it happens, but I figure something out eventually.)

Nothing for a reason: Sometimes, although a tactic I rarely use, things that appear to have a deeper meaning are just random events. I do this sometimes to shake things up.

I hate that guy: I like to give my villains a personality that my players particularly dislike. If I can get my players to really hate the villain, it will taste all the sweeter when that villain is dispatched for good.

Shadows in the Corner: It fits better for table-top game, but I sometimes let the players check perception when there's nothing to find, especially in a scary situation. I then jot something down and watch them squirm as they think there's something hiding in the shadows.

Caveats: I tend to get really excited about a gaming idea I have but I frequently get new ideas to get excited about. Currently, I have two ideas I want to turn into games, even though I just started a game of Exalted. This tends to turn into a situation where, if I have to wait for a player to post, I just lose interest in the game completely. To be fair, the same thing happens if, for some reason, I can't post for a few days. My inspiration just doesn't last for long.

Name: Hellrazoromega or just Hellrazor or HRO

Preferred Systems:
Exalted, Eclipse Phase, L5R, 7th Sea, Aeon/Trinity Continuum, Iron Kingdoms, Pathfinder--to name a very few I grew up on and love a lot of old school systems from the 70's and 80's Aftermath, Chill (Pacesetter) Traveller etc.

Preferred Genres:
Any but I admit to being a bit burned out on the traditional sword and spell Western archetype fantasy.

Style:
Rather open and free from. I tend not to have a lot of combat in my games and I like to have every situation have solutions that don't involve combat, that said if you spend an entire session insulting an NPC and then punch him in the nose except those non-combat options to fly right out the window.

Alignment:
I HATE alignments as they tend to lump entire races into categories. "Well he's a Drow he MUST be evil" or "it's a Red Dragon it has to be X-Y-Z." When I do run fantasy game like Pathfinder you may run into a Gold dragon who does wholly evil things. Anyway I Hate them so much I haven't even thought about it so I'll just say: Rant over and pass.

Tropes Employed:
Anything that opposes or inverts traditional tropes. For instance in my Pathfinder game the Elves are not a wise elder race but rather an elder race that enslaved humans, Orc and Goblins for ages. The Humans, Orcs and Goblins are allied as races that were long oppressed. The main "Good" goddess is the goddess of shadow and the main "evil" god is the god of the Sun. The undead are called Sun-Touched and come out in the day, which is so scorching and bright during parts of the year that no one ventures out during midday). Btw Vancian magic must die and I tend to use house rules in my Pathfinder games

Caveats:
I have a tendency to speak in obscure sci-fi, action, fantasy and old low budget movie quotes.

Just so long as everyone has fun it's all good. I am an "open door" GM, so long as one or a few players is not hogging the game I am open to people coming to me at anytime and offering ideas or requests of what they'd like to see in game. I love player initiated ideas--"Hey lets' buy the inn, let the current innkeeper stay on secretly working for us and use it as a front for out other activities." That sort of think is not only cool but encouraged.

Name: Pineapple

Preferred Systems: No System, DnD 3.5, Pathfinder, ADnD 2nd Edition, Homebrew

Preferred Genres: Character Driven Games, Dark, Modern, Fantasy, Low Power, Survival

Style: I like to run games where players feel like they have infinite choices and can direction the game where they want it to go, while having the characters fully aware of their own strengths and weaknesses (especially weaknesses). I look for ways to make people regret their choices, and make their characters feel weak. Yet I don't kill people unless they force my hand through bad roleplaying or incredibly stupid actions. I make settings and scenes that can terrify and invoke worry in the characters, as well as laughter and enjoyment from the players. A game is made to be fun and engaging. My number one priority is fun over mechanics or dice.

The major thing to expect if Pineapple is running a chat dice game, is that random things will happen, and the players will need to look and investigate to find a logical reason it happened. Players who are prepared for everything will find something they didn't expect. I will keep players on their toes at all times, and the ultimate tool in Pineapples GM bag is not monsters or NPC's. It's the environment.

In Non-System games, I don't like having a storyteller. All players direct the story and should work together to build the plot. Characters will drive the plot with their own motivations and goals. They will grow and expand, creating drama and strife. In a Pineapple non-system roleplay, everyone is equal.

Alignment: Chaotic Hilarious

Tropes Employed: Probably plenty, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now. I don't look to use them, but all plots must have some.

Caveats: Your character is weak, there will be countless people just as strong or stronger then you. Sometimes I will just straight up destroy your gear or weapons. I will send you into things that feel like death sentences. I will make the player fear making a choice. I will also make the player laugh, I will have gags for them in the game, and I will reward them. Only to take the reward away a few sessions later. My games are not about becoming strong and wining. There is no winner. My games are for fun. I want people to come together and roleplay their characters, play in the world, and laugh with each other, cry with each other. It's not about the game at the end of the day. My games are ones where the people playing matter more then what they are playing.

Preferred Systems:
Spirit of '77 and other PbtA type games, Shadowrun 5e, various indie systems, and D&D 3.5 in a pinch. Also No System I suppose.

Preferred Genres:
Definitely Sci-fi, as well as more pulpy action type games. I'm a bit burnt out on just straight faced fantasy at this point.

Style:
I try to at least have a core idea of a plot for adventures, but I like it when players seize on things like "Well, why are there so many dwarves in this sea port? There's something weird going on. The dragons can wait, we need to know what the hell they're doing here." Overall, I'm pretty relaxed as a GM, much like I am everywhere else. If I get on to someone about something I feel is out of line, they're probably doing something like using a random spell from a strange splatbook that was only published in this one specific month in this region and yadda yadda yadda what do you mean "rocks fall everyone dies". Generally, don't be a dick and I won't be a bigger dick.

Alignment:
Ham Captain

Tropes Employed:

Rule of Funny:
If you can make me or other people laugh at whatever the hell you're doing, there is a distinct chance I'll allow it.

Gun Fu: Maybe I've just seen The Matrix too many times (Especially when recovering from something like a tattoo or sickness) but I'm a sucker for Gun Fu type things.

Artistic License, Physics: If I think it's cool enough, I'll allow it. Even if it's something ridiculous like "Faraday Cage blocks electric charges in the ocean".

Scary Impractical Armor: The more ludicrous, the more likely it is to be in my game, even if it's on a statue or something. If there aren't pauldrons the size of beach balls I'm not interested.

Simple, Yet Awesome: Not everything needs a six paragraph buildup and a ten thousand word back story. Just hit someone in the dingle with a stick to solve problems every now and then. Keeps everything grounded, in my opinion.

MST3K Mantra: Just repeat to yourself "It's just a game, I should really just relax."

Caveats:
If I think something is funny, it will probably be in the game in some form or another. Additionally, if I think something doesn't add anything even remotely necessary to the game, it might get cut. I'm also an unfortunate fountain of MST3K quotes and NPCs may be named off the 12 To The Moon chain of names as well as the many names of David Ryder. Finally, don't try too hard to be funny; the best jokes are ones that just come off the cuff, I feel like.
