Posts need to be longer than just one sentence of dialogue. A paragraph (5-7 sentences) would be much preferred). When you're interacting with another person's character, you'll need to tag them. Your attendance needs to be frequent but you don't have to be here everyday. If you're gone for a long stretch of time, please warn me. If you don't, you'll be removedreadingraebow said:What are the posting requirements?
Very good I'll keep an eye on this and see how fast paced the posting is. I work at a library so the whole night at the museum quality of this plot is very intriguing to me.ScytheMeister7 said:Posts need to be longer than just one sentence of dialogue. To answer all your questions, yes you can choose non-fiction. You can include a character from an autobiography, biography, memoir, historical non-fiction, etc. The subjects of the books may appear but they're not the focus of the RP. How-to books? I didn't really thing that far but I'd assume they can act as background characters. The librarians and staff have no idea what goes on. It's kinda like Toy Story in that sense. The library is pretty big. If you need context, it's in a town of about 30,000 people. Each genre of book has its own section, such as Mystery, Adult, SciFy, etc. Movies and videos do not come to life. I hope that answers the majority of your questions. If you have anymore, feel free to askreadingraebow said:Very good I'll keep an eye on this and see how fast paced the posting is. Granted I work at the reference desk with all the nonfiction so I'd be seeing famous people or various creatures co,e out of my end.
Which brings me to a question could people pick nonfiction stories? And if they did would the subject of the book appear? What is it's like a how to draw book or a pet care book would it just be the pets in the book or the creatures your drawing come out?
Also are the librarians aware of what happen - what about the cleaning crew? Like in the Night at the Muesuem where the night guards know what is going on but not the curator or dozens/tour guides.
Lastly how big is the library ? Is there a separate section of chilfren, adult, audio, and large print books? Do they have a dvd collection? What about a nonfiction side?
Or are they apart of of a huge library chain and this takes place in the circulation building where the adult and children books are located?
Maybe bottom floor adults and top floor children's.
That's actually really cool. Thanks ^^readingraebow said:http://www.leweslibrary.org/files/201200200_floorplan_01.21.14.pdf

You can have more than one character from a series or more than one character in general, but it'll be up to you to keep track of all of them. The characters do have knowledge about their series though if you want, they could only know some or know the entire thing. The case for Harry Potter is that it depends on the person who picks them. They can choose what year he comes from. It would be too messy having multiple Harry's from each yearreadingraebow said:Lol next question can we have more than one character?
Can we bring forth more than one character from a specific book series?
Do our characters have all the knowledge of the entire series or just a specific book?
Ex. Harry Potter. If he appears will he appear as a little first yea from book one with only the knowledge from that book? Or will he appear as a seventeen year old with knowledge from all the books?
Also how aware are the characters that they are from the books in the first plave
Characters only come out in the library. They can't leave. Damaged books bring out damaged characters. And I like your idea for dealing with the camerasreadingraebow said:Ooh last question for the day but it just hit me - what happens to the books that are checked out, damaged, or stolen? Do the characters still com out or is only if they're in good repair and in the library?
Also can the characters leave the building?
I know we lock up when we leave - the cleaning people have their own keys and lock up behind themselves as well.
I know they're usually there about two hours after we close vacuuming and such. I'd up that to maybe three hours in the case of this library as it's pretty big. Or only two hours if they have a whole group of people that show up.
Also don't forget the security cameras a library that big would at least have security cameras if not a security guard.
I'd say the security cameras would be easiest and one of the tech savvy characters cover their tracks.
Comics are allowed but I'd rather someone DM me about that so I can moderate on what character's storyline they come from. I'd rather have only one version of each character for the same reason as to not have so many Batmans running around. Genre in the CS would be nice, but I don't think 100 percent necessary. People know that libraries are usually divided up depending on genre so hopefully they don't mix. If they do, I'll add it to the layoutreadingraebow said:Awesome
Alright last questions then I'm going to start putting the finishing touches on a onexone I'm in before beginning work on a CS for this.
1. what about comics - since they very rarely have a solid continuity and you have not only different storylines in the comics but also your supplemental materials?
Example Batman. You've got your new 52 Batman, Your Batman Team Ups, Your Elseworld Batmans, Your Pre-New 52 Batman, your early reader storybooks featuring Batman, your Batman Novels, etc.
All of these feature a variation of the character and not all of them follow the same basic continuity. So in that case would you have a different Batman for each continuity? ( not necessarily as a playable character but just wandering the library )
2. Do you want us to put the Genre our character is from in their CS - just so we know where each person is from in the library?
Oh, I see. Then it would be based off of the most well know version of said character. Example: there are versions in which Thor is a woman but not many people (or at least those who are invested in the comic world) know about that and thus, she would not be included. Depending on how many people choose to use a comic character, the rules may change. If there are a lot, I'll have to put a limit but if there aren't, then people are free to choose whomever they like. NPCs are not meant to be the main source of interactment. They're simply there to fill the void when someone's character has no one else to converse with. I'd prefer if there weren't a lot of them. There may be no person behind Hermoine or Ron but Harry can still interact with them. The one thing is, I'd prefer it if people interacted with NPCs out of their own series, such as Jon Snow meeting Howl (Howl's Moving Castle). I'm not entirely sure if I answered your questions properly. I probably didn'treadingraebow said:No you misunderstand I wasn't asking about people playing multiple versions of Batman I was asking instead how the characterization of comic characters would work as a whole.
Basically these questions are all about the background NPC characters that just wander the library every night. Not necessarily people that are being portrayed by a player.
Is it simply that there is one version of each of the comic characters that walks around and represents each variation of their character simultaneously? Or does each "comic universe" act as it's own separate entity?
Meaning you would have characters that represent the New 52, the Ame Comic line, the Pre-New 52, etc.
For that matter is there a cap of how many characters each series can have? Obviously Comics have a truly staggering number of people in them and if each of those people could come out of the pages you'd probably be able to fill the entire building with just comic characters alone.
So is it like by popularity or something? How you pick which characters can come out of a series? Is there a limit to how many each series can support?
For instance using the DC Comics example - would only Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman be able to appear or could you get like more obscure characters like Elongated Man or Linda Parks?
Or as another example - take Harry Potter again. Would all the Golden Trio be able to show up or just Harry as he's the titular character?
