Fantasy The Last Dragon {Ask Permission Before Joining.}

"Touch her tail?"
I looked over at Zero as I felt her tail brush against me but I couldn't see her. The invisibility really threw me off. I didn't question it further though, I just grabbed her tail and held on lightly. That was when I noticed that I couldn't see my hand.
"Are you doing this?!" I whispered incredulously. It was amazing enough that she had the ability to disappear; that she could extend it outward to affect me as well was unbelievable. It was hard to focus on potential danger with so many impossible things happening. Still, I did as she instructed, keeping as quiet and still as I could.

i avoided her question i will not tell her about him who is trying to kill me...or make me his i hate valdore

Val's ears strained as if they were hearing something, but he couldn't make out any true sound. The man's brow furrowed, and he continued further uphill, instantly alert. It also smelled faintly of fire, so he knew someone had at least been by in the past 12 hours. A cave opening came into view, and Val unsheathed his axes. They were one handed, meant for dual wielding. Someone with less knowledge of weaponry might even call them tomahawks.
After maybe 3 minutes he approached the side of the cave entrance, on-edge and ready to fight... he knew anything could spring out at him once it knew of his presence. Swallowing the anxiety anticipation harbored, Val leapt in front of the entrance, glaring wildly at its contents.
The fight in him drained, just as the color in his face, when he saw nothing less than a dragon... and its companion.
"By the Gods above..." He rasped weakly, looking to the halfling with a baffled expression. "A dragon..."

the man saw me but he looked familiar... do i know him i stop touching her and stop guarding her so she kinows its safe. do i know you i ask the human with telepathy and tilt my head

I looked towards the entrance to the cave in anticipation.
I couldn't see anything, but Zero obviously could.
Then, Zero pulled her tail from my hand. Had the danger passed? I couldn't be sure, so I readied my slingshot, just in case. It seemed an insignificant weapon, but I was a master with it. I rarely missed.
I whispered as quietly as I could, "Is it safe?"

Val had never seen this dragon before, and by the looks of it, it was a baby. The former dragon rider's heart ached for his own late dragon... Lilythe.
It spoke to him, he realized, and noted the voice as a female's. A female dragon.
"I can't say that we've met before." He replied to the creature with a still stupefied expression, cautiously entering the mouth of the cave. Raising his eyebrows in a question of permission to stay and chat, he glanced to the...
also female halfling. Suddenly he was wary again, the shock of the dragon took his will to fight for a rather extended amount of time. Ladies always fought the dirtiest, and that kind of strain was severely unwelcome right now. Any other time, though... he adjusted his grip on his weapons.
Val's brow furrowed in confusion as the girl asked if it was safe, though, and slowly realized the dragon was/had been using its invisibility to hide the cave and the girl. He wondered aloud, "Are one of you hurt?"

I heard a voice then, a male, and I tensed. I still couldn't see anyone, but it appeared that Zero was conversing with someone. She seemed to lose the edge of caution and relaxed her stance, no longer guarding me in a defensive position.

Zero might be relaxed but I was not. I didn't know this "person" and I was not a dragon. I was capable, but I was not confident in my abilities to defend against an unseen opponent.

"Zero, what's going on?" I asked her. "Is there someone there? Are they friendly? Do they know I'm here?"

The uncertainty was maddening.

I didn't have to wait long for an answer, however, as just then a man walked through the entrance. I took a few steps back, bringing myself closer to Zero, both to protect her and to get a better angle should I need to take aim. I said nothing, keeping my eyes trained on him. He looked tough, and I still didn't know if he was friend or foe.

When I heard Zero ask the newcomer about her mother I was confused. Why would this stranger know of her deceased mother, a dragon? No one had seen one for at least 50 years now, until today. It didn't make sense, but I decided that until I knew this person's intentions, I wasn't going to concern myself with it.

i wonder if he knows my lost mom...lilythe do you know my dead mom lilythe i make sure both of them hear this

Watching as the dragon relaxed its fire, he came closer, to a comfortable distance for conversation. Val watched and sensed the overwhelming wariness from the halfling, keeping to the dragon's side of the cave and giving the girl a wide berth.
Just then, the dragon spoke to him again, the most startling words he's heard in... forever. The dragon rider's eyes grew wide, and then softened to a more defeated gaze. "Lilythe... I knew her." He spoke solemnly. Sighing deeply, he rested his shoulder against the cave wall. "I was her Rider. Your mother, you say? How... interesting."

I remained quiet, listening intently to their conversation.
Rider? This man was a rider?
Had been a rider, anyway. There weren't riders anymore. The lack of dragons made it impossible.
I felt a twinge of jealousy then. This man had been Zero's mother's rider; did that mean he would want to be Zero's rider now?
I had just met her, but I already felt a certain bond, and I didn't relish the thought of losing that.
I was already wary of the stranger, whose name I still did not know. I was now beginning to dislike him as well.

valkararterio.png

"I knew the name of her enemy, and the face... I was tainted by seeing him once upon a time. Valdore killed off all of the dragons. I supposed you were spared and safe, due to your age." Val stated, curious... incredibly curious. "Why were you spared... how....?"
The man began to ramble so he stopped, and looked to the halfling. "Are you this dragon's rider?" Then he looked back to the dragon, "What is your name? And... yours?" He motioned at the girl again, standing up straight to step from the wall. The axes grew heavy in his hands, and he sheathed them, watching the two while he waited for them to answer.

Seeing the stranger sheath his weapons put me slightly at ease, though I wasn't feeling very forthcoming considering he still had not given us his name. I decided to answer one of his questions.

"No, I am not her rider. I am not a rider at all. We're friends." I nearly spat the word, distaste seeping into my voice. I did not care for riders. The stories of old had always given me the impression that dragons were generally not ridden by choice; the vast majority were captives, forced to be subservient to those who chose them. It was rarely the other way around, and I did not know which type he was.

"And you, you still have not told us who you are," I stated pointedly, crossing my arms, slingshot still in hand. "Or how you happened to find us here."

My mind revisited the moments in the forest, where we had been fleeing something that brought Zero great fear. Not long before he showed up. I didn't believe in coincidences, and it seemed awfully suspicious, him showing up just as we made it to safety.

Suddenly there was a flash of light. I was momentarily blinded, and when my vision returned, Zero was nowhere to be seen! In her place was a... girl... of sorts, but not quite. I was stunned.

I immediately looked toward the stranger. "What have you done?" I asked him accusingly.

"Zero." Val mumbled, then quirked his eyebrow as the halfling began to speak. It was clear she was irked by his presence, and that certainly pleased him. Irritating people was extremely amusing to him. Especially when it seemed that they had no reason to be. "Oh, friends." He smiled, his expression growing in delight at the girl's responses and tone.
Wonder what her problem is... Suddenly he wondered if he'd met her before... in a pub or something. The thought made him chuckle. How did I wrong this little lady...? "Oh, you want to know my name, don't you? And how I stumbled upon you creatures? Curious thing." The warrior tilted his head and then shrugged, "I suppose that's fair..."
Just as Val was about to answer, there was a brilliant flash that had him staggering for a moment. "Mm.'" He murmured, furrowing his brow once again as a ghoulish girl now stood before them. Curious.
The halfling suddenly spat at him, and her accusation had him laughing heartily. "Oh dear..." He breathed, "I didn't touch her. What if you did it? Hm? Trying to play an elaborate trick on me? Are you gonna try and cook me, eh? Val questioned with an even more accusatory tone, even though it was obviously mockery and play. "Why don't you ask the transformed how she's changed, huh?" A thick Scandinavian accent tumbling out as he spoke with more intensity and speed.

how did this happen.... "uhhh help?" i feel things on my back and seeing lillythe and ember i cant belive it... there spirits mom and dad...''did you do this?'' i ask them. they simply nod and i move my hands. having a human body is so weird.

Ignoring the stranger, I moved towards Zero. "Are you okay? What happened?" I asked her, my concern showing on my face. I didn't know what to do. She seemed okay; I didn't see any injuries, only.. there were two - creatures - protruding from her back, and they seemed.. aware. That, and the fact that she was no longer a dragon. "Has this happened before?" I inquired. I had never heard about anything like this happening in any of the old stories.

Glaring at the stranger I said, "No. I did NOT do this. And YES, I want to know your name and how you found us. Right before you showed up there was something in the forest. I didn't see what it was but Zero seemed to know and it frightened her enough that we ran away. Well, flew away," I corrected myself, irritated by my mistake. "Anyway, not five minutes after we arrived at her HIDDEN cave you show up and just waltz right in; it's awfully suspicious, don't you think?"

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself; I hated losing my temper in front strangers, especially this irritating former rider of a dead dragon, "How did Lilythe die, I wonder," who seemed to bring nothing but trouble along with him. "And NOW," I continued, "she is a GIRL with CREATURES growing out of her back. Something that happened, AGAIN, right as you showed up. So unless you have something helpful to say, or you have any idea what's happened to Zero, I suggest you go. I have more important things to worry about. Dragons didn't exist for me until today and I am not about to let any harm come to her. Especially from a rider like you."

I couldn't conceal my emotions; too much had happened and I was overwhelmed.

"And I wouldn't eat you if you were the last food source in the world," I mumbled under my breath.

I turned my attention back towards Zero, wishing I could help her somehow. I knew nothing of dragons. I had no basis for comparison. This could be very common or life-threatening. I simply did not know. All I could do was remove my cloak and place it around Zero to cover her. So that's what I did, taking care not to impede the two creatures, which vaguely resembled small dragons.

Zero's health was noted, having no concern for the transformation, as dragons tended to go through a lot of changes when they're younger, and he knew Zero wouldn't have any answers for her changes. Rarely does a dragon actually know what their body is going through.
Chuckling lowly once more as the halfling ranted to him, Val actually placed his hands on his hips, "Well, since you asked so nicely, sprite. My name is Val, and I found you because fire has a very distinct scent. Also because your voice isn't necessarily soft," He knew that wasn't true, but right now was definitely time for teasing, "AND, dragon riders are immune to dragon tricks. If Zero was aware and afraid of something specific in the forest, she wouldn't need to ask who I was. The sense of danger would follow, no?" Val smiled, though there was no warmth to his expression. In fact, it was quite cold and piercing. The gold in his eyes grew bright with his emotion.
The obvious insult and mock-polite 'suggestion' to leave went in one ear and right out the other, as did most of the halfling's poking. Walking over to a rock that seemed like an appropriate seat, Val placed his bottom on the cool stone, and pulled one knee up to his chest comfortably. "Well, I'm certainly glad I didn't have to meet a cannibal today." He replied with a lighthearted wink, and turned his attention to the {mostly} human-turned dragon. From there, he examined her and the creatures flowing behind her. They seemed snake-like, and spiritual all the same... but there wasn't much time for sight-seeing, because the slivers quickly turned into downgraded dragonfire wings.
Hm... interesting... "So... you're... the absolute last dragon? Are you certain of this...?" Val asked curiously. The wariness he felt for the answer was laced loosely in the question, but he did a rather swell job of keeping the true intensity from his voice.

I turned bright red, fuming at Val's words. "Sprite my ass," I thought indignantly. I tried my best not to let him see my irritation; I had already had enough of this strange man, and it didn't look like he was going anywhere, as he perched himself on a rock and settled in.

The whole situation irritated me; Val's sudden appearance, Zero's transformation, his apparent knowledge of dragons; I knew nothing of any of these occurrences and that irritated me as well. I'd spent the majority of my life alone, wandering through the forest. I didn't know anything, aside from how to clean a rabbit and how to take someone down with a slingshot on the first try. I could go for weeks without even speaking aloud. I was extremely annoyed by my idiocy, but I kept it to myself. I did not like this man, and I did not trust him. How did I even know he was telling the truth? He could be making it all up, trying to trick us somehow. Maybe he wanted to capture Zero and make her his slave. He was a rider after all.

"That's not gonna happen," was my immediate thought.

I held my tongue, as hard as it was, and waited for Zero to answer the question he had asked her. I was curious about the answer myself, and I had nothing nice to say to Val. Even his name pissed me off. It was a girl's name.

I looked at Zero, her creatures now wings, her form now humanoid, and wondered how it was that I was somehow involved in all this.

i nod ''yes im the last dragon...''i say. i realize time goes by faster in my cave ''val....check to se iff its a full moon...''i say realizing that if i snap i coul kill them...

For a split second, Val smirked smugly due to the halfling's silence; her new name was definitely Sprite.
Tilting his head as humanoid Zero spoke to him, he pursed his lips at her confirmation. The former dragon rider pushed himself onto his feet and nodded, using her request as a bit of alone time. Turning around, he strode away to the entrance of the cave and exited it, passing through the barrier of invisibility in doing so. A deep breath left him, and he sat on the edge of the stone ground while he lifted his gaze skyward. 1 more quarter till a Full Moon. Val noted, taking 10 minutes to himself.
Was there much reason for him to stick around? Much reason to bother the cantankerous halfling? The only true reason he'd have was to just be involved with a dragon again. There was no desire to ride her, as his partner had passed, as well as his Dragon Rider bond. There were still remnants of his purpose left behind though. Immunity to their tricks, the subtle yet strong connection to the creatures...
"I may be of some use to them..." Val murmured, And I don't really have anything waiting for me to get back. His life was quite boring otherwise. It might be good for Sprite to have some social interaction as well.
Val chuckled a bit, and rose again, returning to his rock and shaking his head at Zero. "No full moon. You can expect one soon, though."
