The Last City -
The Last City is located in the areas once known as The Central Plains Region, in the former state of Texas. The world outside the walls knows very little about what goes on inside, however with rumors of corruption and political murder, many fear to seek refuge inside its towering walls. For many, The Last City isn't the bastion of hope, but rather a tyrant of force.
Inside its walls, the city is run in a Socialist fashion, as mandated upon its founding. Each person is assigned a job around the age of twelve and forced to keep that job for the rest of their existence. The job picking works as a lottery of sorts, with it assigned by your racial background, parental background, and then having the kid pull out a random profession out of a box. Many view this "lottery" as corrupt because those with higher political status usually have offspring that have similar professions to their parents. In a sense, this makes sure the poor stay poor, and the rich stay rich. This maintains the balance in a way, as the poorer workers produce the food for the rich. In term, the rich provide support to the poor. The government rules the citizens with an iron fist, and nothing goes unchecked in all of its 3 sectors. Police presence varies heavily depending on the sectors economic stance, with most being in the poorer sectors as opposed to the wealthier ones.
As shown in the picture above, the population is sorted into various sectors regarding their economic and political stance in the city. Those new to the city, or opposed to the actions of the government reside in Sector 3. This sector is the closest to the wall and is mainly a slum district. The buildings in this area are made from any leftover scrap the poor sods could find, and are often shoddily put together. This area is known for its black market sectors, drug running operations and organized criminal activity. As a result, this area is by far the most heavily policed area in the city. The occupations for the majority of the people here are usually miners or lowly sharecroppers. Sector 2 is where the majority of the population lives, and is proliferated with towering skyscrapers. Most people in this Sector live mundane lives as pen-pushers, soldiers, and secretaries. Despite that though, many of the skyscrapers found in the area are actually greenhouses and as a result, farmers are usually mingled in with the urban population as well. Sector 1 is where the city laid its initial foundation, and the area where the most successful, and powerful people in the city reside. This sector is 99.9% devoid of any crime and is a gleaming diamond compared to the other sectors. Helis are seen flying lazily through the air in this sector, intermingled with the stunning images of a utopian skyline.
