The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. H.P. Lovecraft |
Note: Let me start by briefly saying this role play is based off of a book series I'm currently writing. The King of Tomorrow is primarily a story about a man that is arrogant enough to believe he is capable of wielding Pandora's Box, but also wise enough to know that he will never need to open it, nor does he desire to.
Beyond Odyssey: There are two worlds that the stories take place in. They exist within a multiverse. One world is Earth in the mid-to-late 2050s (with a prelude story set in the 1930s). The other world is Astria; a world locked in a pre-industrial age and within a universe that seems to defy long-standing Terran ("from Earth") laws of physics.
I'm labeling this story as "fantasy" here at RPN, as "science-fantasy" isn't really an option and most of our RP will be taking place on Astria. However, you will have the option of role playing as a Terran with the Odysseus Expedition. Odysseus is comprised mainly of scientists hand-picked by the corporation sponsoring the venture, but there are around two hundred security forces personnel that have been tasked with protecting the entire project and it's civilian participants. You have the option of role playing one of them as well.
The Story: This story is set one year after Odysseus' arrival through the Polyphemus Gate (which bridges the two worlds). 2nd Odysseus has just taken over where 1st Odysseus was relieved (although some personnel have elected to stay on for the second tour).
Abia is the continent on Astria where our story will be focused; specifically, the Arcanaan Empire. Odysseus currently has a peace agreement with Arcanaan, so Terran explorers are able to move freely within the empire's vast domain.
Trouble is brewing within the empire, however, and Odysseus has been pulled into intervention by way of circumstance (they are geographically based within the empire). The enslaved Vigilants—chimeras with feline ears and tails, but the overall disposition of humans—are beginning to rebel against their human oppressors and are uniting under the one they are calling "the Young Lion". Sagens, the nephilim offspring of human and celestial, have been asked by the imperator to help his human armies subdue the enslaved chimeras; but they are torn between their desire to maintain balance and their practice of staying out of "trivial" affairs.
Odysseus, meanwhile, aims to teach tolerance and offer their centuries of experience—gleaned from Earth's anthropological history—regarding issues about those that are oppressed and marginalized in society.
Our story begins in the seaport town of Calid Oraxa, where human citizens sympathetic toward the Vigilant cause is have organized a protest. Imperial guards have been dispatched to monitor the peaceful demonstration, but Terran observers from Odysseus are cynically wondering how long the peace will last...

A Comprehensive Compendium: Obviously, since of a lot of my world has already been developed, participants will be provided with a full wealth of knowledge and trivia about Earth, Astria, and significant characters that could have some influence on the RP's plot. This will not be crammed into an OOC thread, however. Rather, I've already organized a PDF document that you may download and read at your leisure. All information is categorized and organized in a manner that should be easy enough to find exactly what you need, as quickly as possible. Just keep in mind that, since I'm still actually writing the books, not everything will be in the compendium.
Terran Characters [Needed First]: I'm looking for at least five additional role players to participate that would assume the role of a Terran. Everyone will be looking on at the events of Astria from the perspective of a foreigner. Astrians will call you a "traveler" or "visitor".
If your character is a civilian scientist, there are multiple primary disciplines you may choose from. They may sound scary to those unfamiliar with the fields, but I assure you, the ins-and-outs of their career are not as important as the person you develop them to be. Although, some research into these disciplines would be helpful.
-Anthropologist (can cross-specialize in Archaeology)
-Linguist (can cross-specialize in Cryptology)
-Political Analyst (can cross-specialize in Diplomacy)
-Exobiologist (can cross-specialize in Genetics)
-Geologist (can cross-specialize in Meteorology)

Alternatively, you can be one of the Expeditionary Apex Security Forces (E-ASF) members assigned to protect the civilians. Also, don't worry about an imbalance of the professions. Three anthropologists or whatever is fine by me. The above is to give some idea of the professions that Odysseus is comprised of.
Astrian Characters [Can Be Discussed Later]: If you are interested in playing a Vigilant or an Astrian human, then I can work with you on developing their base character to ensure they mesh with the world. Sagens, Astrals, and other character types are off limits for now (let's just say that they are... complicated... and very, very OP if used incorrectly).

If you are interested, please post here to let me know. Once I have my five (not counting myself) minimal participants, then we can proceed further.
