Lemon Pierce
Lemon watched as the boy flinched initially, but she pretended like she had seen nothing, after all the only way she was going to gain his trust was to make sure he didn’t feel weird around her. Trust and then maybe she could decipher what he meant from his one Tweet. It wasn’t enough for her to use as evidence to tell her mother. She was going to have to work hard to find out what was really going on. His jumpiness seemed like a factor but still it wasn’t enough. Her and Ian had made a pact to try and help him and she was going to live up to her word. She was Lemon Pierce and the Pierces never went back on their word. Or at least that was what her father had told her over and over again as she grew up.
Oliver’s gratefulness for the cookies made Lemon perk up a bit more and as he began to tell her what kind of turtle, she was all ears. He loved turtles and he deserved to be able to speak about them freely, and she was all ears to listen. Though, they didn’t have a ton of time, but she would listen until she couldn’t. Lemon shook her head a giggle escaping from her lips, “No continue. You seem so happy talking about turtles.” Lemon never wanted to break someone’s confidence she had remembered all the times people had ridiculed her for her name or for the fact she knew so much about baking at a young age. She remembered the boys taunting her and all she could do was hold in every ounce of hurt feeling until her mom had asked her what was wrong. Now, Lemon made sure she didn’t let anyone feel bad about their passions or the niche thing that brought them joy.
“I don’t mind. I don’t know much about turtles, but I did work real hard trying to darken the green, so it didn’t look so bright for the frosting. Tell me about these Ridley turtles? I can try and learn to do other turtles. If you want. Or I can try and do others. I’m working on getting better at baking and making my designs better. I uh want to open my own bakery one day.” Lemon never really talked about her bakery dreams, except to Tae and AJ but her dad thought it was a fool dream and her mom. Her mom supported her dreams but also tried to edge her to the idea of a more stable career. So Lemon had been more silent on her goals around people but Oli was quiet and so she felt like she could tell him her one dream she had.
