Biography
Birth Place: Tetsu island- Shintetsu
Date of Birth: 979
Nationality: Easterner
Personality:
2 Positive Traits:Sincere, Ambitious
2 Negative Traits: Callous, Greedy
Weaknesses: The call of the hunt, is almost inexorable to her. If there is a treasure, something irreplaceable and otherwise valuable for the sake for being valuable, she sees it as her duty to at least try to take it whatever is being guarded.
History: It started off innocuously enough, a girl belonging to a band of thieves in shintetsu, was born and raised in the way of the thief. The band was a small no name group of no special notoriety named,La main noire. Its leader and her father were compromised of people of all walks of life for the most part. They were blacksmiths, bakers, soldiers, sailors, tailors and more. A group who wanted more out of life and was bound by their desire to rise up higher in the ranks. Each person brought something different to the table. For instance, those who were blacksmiths would arm their fellow member at a discount and on the downlow, teach fire artes in exchange for other artes, such as a sailor's knowledge of wind. These original members liked to think of themselves as honest or merry thieves. Some even only used this as an opportunity to meet others and gain connections, which would solve their yearning for more without having to break the law in many cases.
However, Adelaide was rather enamored with the more romantic ideals of the group. Whenever her father went out to meet with his fellow thieves, she was there to follow suit. From an early age(7), she spent her time trying to fool her mother and tail her father without getting caught. At first she was easy to trick and even easier to detect. But as time went on and she studied the arcane artes books in her father kept in his study. Unlike he who, a simple blacksmith who could barely read or cast the artes he was indoctrinated in as a child, she picked up quickly. Soon being virtually undectable in the right conditions, she stalked her parent and often was ahead of him in arriving to his band of thieves meetings.
The others recognizing this gave her lessons in various artes that were meant to help her as a thief. To them it was cute to see a little rascal so enthusiastic about their little group's endeavors. by 989, she was nearly a full time thief. Being a child she wasn't necessarily afraid of the repercussions of her actions and her elders often thought nothing of her deeds. Most attributed her actions to that of a "fairy". Most of the people she took from either had an inkling of what happened or they simply laughed when they found out they were bamboozled by a child. Though she was nearly invisible, the sound a little mischievous kid makes, are still there. Most of the time she didn't steal much, maybe the equivalent of a penny here or a quarter there. The motive behind the act was little more than a game or a challenge to her. Most of the people in her little district paid no mind to it, until she took from the wrong person.
An experienced mage accompanying a high ranking official of the navy and church caught wind of her act. Though it was minor, by this time in her career even the mischievous laughter was all but gone. The man, Stien, was not fooled by her darkness artes. After noticing a missing heypenny from his pocket, he observed the scene. There was no unusual sound nor visual cue. No sense of touch, which to him was rather baffling. However there was something Adelaide had neglected, that being the taste of her mana and its scent.
Honor bound to uphold the law, he descended upon the little fishing district and made its people's lives hell. Those who weren't from there but were frequent visitors were hounded upon landing port. Each was given a chance to talk before being harassed with strict fines, unfair inspections, and outright arrest. Stein knew the "fairy" was the culprit for the disappearance of his penny and that this measly district was to blame for letting the culprit get away with the crime of theft.
It wasn't long after until Adelaide stopped altogether and spent her days as a blacksmith apprentice after being scolded by her childhood friends, elders, and parents. They all hurt her feelings and crushed her spirit when she wanted to continue, because from her point of view there was no wrong done. She was always allowed to do what she wanted as a child and no one up until this point in time had ever scolded her. Her face lost its exuberance and the fire in her eyes rescinded. Attributing this change to being a child and immaturity, most went on about their lives for a while. Well that's until Stien made his appearance once more.
This time taxing the district to high heaven and driving away other sectors of the capital's business and island at large away from there, he had systematically drove its residents to their knees. Fear and paranoia gripped the port town and it was all blamed on the fairy. She watched as her friends and family suffered at the hands of stien, who was draining the life out of them. He claimed it was interest, which had accrued for everyday that his sole heypenny was missing. Those who one saw her as a little rascal now abhorred her,but did not rat her out to repent for their hand in her crimes. Those who weren't in the inner circle, cursed the fairy. Any instance of wrongdoing or unexplainable disappearance was blamed upon the fairy.
The young Adelaide couldn't stand being the outcast and nobody that she felt she was. She eventually began to steal after being beaten by her drunken irate father. " If you want a fairy...then you got a fairy". From that point on she was on the run, always in hiding and expanding her crimes until they reached the main market district of Shintetsu. Her theft became more heinous and her crimes more violent. It was almost impossible to ignore her, the whole island was on alert for a short stint. That is, until she met Stien once more.
Pinned to ground by a type of arte she never encountered, the floor was covered in interwoven prisms. All of which reacted to her attempts to disarm the phenomenon. It lashed out and bound her in her precious darkness arte. Her arms bound behind her back and yellow eyes glimmering in the black library she broke into, were trained upon him. He snickered at her with a look of contempt, eyeing the heypenny necklace of hers. No it wasn't so much a necklace as it was simply a string running through a single coin.
"Why'd ya do it girl"? He asked, kneeling before her on one knee, reaching out to what belonged to him. He held it between his index finger and thumb, toying with it as if he were savoring this moment. The girl looked up at him with a single bead of sweat running down her temple. " Because your treasures exist". He grinned and tilted his head, grabbing her chin and angling her face to look up at him. " There was no one who put you up to it? No monetary gain to be had"? The man eyed her intensely, almost baffled at her answer. It was consistent with her bahavior, which consisted of either showering her catches to the masses or simply letting her stashes be found many times over. Some reckoned if she simply put the spoils to use at one point, that she would never have been found and could have lived a cooshy life elsewhere.
" Why", he asked in a deep rage induced tone. She eyed him for a moment with a look of innocence mixed with exasperation, "because it was there". He let her go gently, stood up and headed across the room to his bar. Not even bothering with a glass of any sort, he simply chugged at the bottle for a few minutes and stared at the ceiling for a while. Adelaide awaited her fate and acknowledged her blunder. She couldn't find it in her to be mad since she was caught fair and square.
" Alright fairy, you have two choic---". Her head shot up as her lunged expanded, " I've got a name, tis Adelaide, freak". He leaned back with a reckless abandon and glared back at her with a toothy grin. " The name's Stien, Fairy. As I was saying, Fairy, you can either go to jail for the rest of your life or work for me".
