Fantasy The Integrated Academy for Exceptional Students - OOC

So I was thinking about making an Extra Pages thread where information about the Academy could be posted, but I think it's more fun to make up the classes, buildings, professors, etc. as we go along. (And it would be a hassle to do too much on mobile, where I am stuck for half a month. XD)

So if I have any info, I'll just post it here.

There are four dorm halls, all co-ed, with 8 floors each (1st years on 1st floor, etc.).

Scholarships are awarded to low-income students.

The RP starts on the first day of the new, integrated school year, and boy will it be messy.

The headmaster as a middle aged woman called Headmistress Thompson. Resembles a hip aunt who convinces your mom to let you do what you want. Possesses the ability to see the past, present, and future of anything or anyone she touches. Wears gloves for this reason.

Upon acceptance, students take a placement exam to see what year they will enter when they start at the Academy. Those with a specific field of study take a more extensive exam, including both standard curricula and their major(s)/minor(s).

Also, the vagueness of the possible character abilities have me very interested in exploiting them.  Like, seriously, if I go for a superpower type character, what are the limits on what I can make him do?  Can he have more than one ability?  Don't fret, I'm not the type to go for the Mary Sue super character, I'm just trying to gauge my limits.

All I ask for are depth and development. If you want to have a Superman who's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, they better have some kind of kryptonite. I trust you as writers to make good characters. If you don't, others won't play with you. That's just the way it goes.

Are faceclaims required?

Not required, but recommended.

A NOTE ON EXCEPTIONALITY

The exceptional trait that got you into the academy is not the same as the abilities you possess as an Abnormal. Otherwise, Normals could not be accepted, because they possess no such power.

This isn't a school for superheros. You're not being trained to use your powers. This is a school. Think of it this way: Schools opened specifically for women back when only men were educated. But they weren't schools teaching women to do women things. They were schools, specifically schools for women because women could not attend at the time. The Academy was founded in the same sort of time, except Abnormals were not openly accepted into society. The school was not meant to train these people/creatures to use their abilities with greater skill. It was meant to educate them, plain and simple, just like any other school.

So, unless your character is studying to become a living weapon, your exceptional skill is something that can be developed and honed in order to be used in your education or career. Brilliant mathematicians, outstanding music theorists, and ingenious engineers are the kinds of students accepted into the Academy. As stated in the character sheet, you do not get into the Academy simply by being Abnormal. Keep this in mind when creating your character/Edit your character to fit this requirement.

By all means, your abilities and exceptional trait should somehow coincide. That only makes sense. But they should be distinct, as they serve different purposes.

List of exceptional traits to get you started and give you some ideas (may be used directly if you wish):

-A musician with perfect pitch and instant transposing

-A history buff with amazing memory, a living textbook

-A polyglot

-An inventor (whose inventions work)

...and so on and so forth.

UPDATE:

The Character Sheet has now been edited to include both your character's Abnormal abilities as well as their exceptional skill.

A NOTE ON EXCEPTIONALITY....

I'll change it if need be, but would my character work like I've got him?  I mean, his power does give him the skills of his piers, which therefore makes him qualified for pretty much any profession.  And in his history I already mention the "study partner" type thing he had going.  Again, if the school seeks uniqueness completely separate from abnormal abilities then that's ridiculous I can go ahead and come up with something my character's good at.

Collin's good at what you designed him to do, because he ticks me off. It's so totally and completely unfair, because he's only gifted through his power and he has no drive for anything so he shouldn't even be in school, but the higher ups would definitely take pity on that and pay his tuition just to see if something changes. So if you want, edit, but I think he's fine.

And I'm sure that was a joke, but this is a school above Harvard. If you want a school that just goes based off the fact that you can fly or shoot fire from your anus, there's plenty other school RP's out there.

So is my character alright?

Yeah, he's solid.

I'm actually quite interested in the idea of rp though my question is, what's the posting minimum?

i really want to meet his beard tho. Those dreads better be tight asF. Besides, Asa is the friendly sort.

We're still not sure if they're dreads TBH. Some are saying he replaced his beard with furry snakes from the science department.

Posting minimum? Like, how long and how often should posts be? I'm pretty sure I address this in one of the topics, but I'll repeat myself: Make an effort. I trust you.

^u^ I'm super excited for this role play, its always fun to play as Lucy

Same! I'm pretty proud of my characters, it's gonna be fun to try them out. Lucy's a cool one!

Considering pushing the deadline to midnight today. Thoughts?

I'm just impatient to start. XD
