Wayne is a good Character. His personality is evident. He wants to please and help people but that's easier said than done. At least that's how it seems to me.

Genevieve "why do you ride a bike, wouldn't a horse be more enjoyable?" Wayne "She is a maid, horses aren't cheap, welcome to the world! Ugh spoiled people." Welcome to the early 1800's cars were just invented and still not very reliable. A horse is a car. They ain't cheap. Horse theft is like the highest level of crime other than maybe killing somebody. I take my leave. (Seriously though your character is great, and I think that was used as a conversation starter, but I am not sure. If you give the maid a horse then ima be falling out of my seat laughing. Cause for the first time in my life I guessed correctly)

TeslaRolePlays TeslaRolePlays Because Genevieve enjoys horses, and because her parents/stable master buy the horses (I mean, who would take a 9 year old who says she is there to buy a horse seriously?) she has never had the need to think about how expensive horses are, and that is why she asked.

Now, I do not know too much about horse prizes back in the days, but I'd imagine that it would be something like it is these days - the quality decides the prize. If you want a good horse with good genetics, looks and personality/behaviour, you'd have to pay more for it. While some horses could be sold at a cheap prize either because people wanted to get rid of the horse or because the breed/type of the horse wasn't in high demand.

Ya... Just like any item it depends on the market. However, the horse market always seemed to be an expensive one. I am not judging your character. She grew up in a huge mansion and is still but a child. Money isn't really a concept. (Which triggers Wayne lol)

Well, Im still firmly in belief that there was many cheap horses to be found - bad behaviour, undesired looks, bad genetics, illnesses, age. All of those can crash the prize of a horse, perhaps even more back then than these days. Back then, they most likely didn't understand horses to the extent people do these days, and a horse was quickly labeled crazy while now most people know that the behaviour can come from many other reasons like pain or bad discipline.

Anyway, I have nothing else to add to this, because I really don't have any statistics of the prize of horses back then :D

Well I do.
In the west US it was possible to buy a horse for as little as $10, but a decent riding equine cost around $150, with a range of $120 (1861) to $185 (1865). A pack horse for the Oregon Trail cost $25 in the US in 1850, but a riding horse would run you $75. A saddle with saddle bags cost $25 in 1850, a horse blanket $2, and hay only cost 4 cents a kilo.
To give you an idea of cost adjusted for inflation, in 1850 a production worker earned 6 cents an hour, and by 1860 this wage had zoomed to 8 cents an hour. So to earn the price of a ten dollar horse, a production worker in 1850 would have to work for 167 hours (figure a 10 hour day, that's more than 2 weeks).
For something decent it would take months. Maids in the day made even less an hour, because they received food, as well as room and board. If they made anything. Most maids made from room and board/food and no pay - or a 2-3 cents an hour. You figure this in and it would take even longer. Anyways... Genevieve wouldn't be expected to know all of this so it's a mute point. Wayne is just triggered cause he's poor.
